I know a MetaFilter swapsite or Craigslist-y thing has been suggested before, but now that I have a thing burning a hole in my pocket that I'd like to give to an interested local Mefite -- like, today -- I'm wondering if it's time. I'd like to sell or give away things to you, and I'd like to buy stuff, too. I'm pretty sure that we could do some really interesting things with this, like what Miko did with her $9 something offer.

A little over two months ago, I proposed a Metafilter Mix CD Swap: Best of 2007 Edition. Twenty-three people decided to participate and swapped CDs containing their favorite songs from 2007. In that thread it was suggested that after the swap concluded “yall make a thread with your final tracklists and commentary, or otherwise publish them where I and others could read and DL accordingly.” Of the twenty-three participants, seventeen decided to share their tracklists, which you will find inside. Mefi Swap 2006 : Come on. You need to send out your CDs already. I participated in two groups this time around, and sent out 10 cds. I've received only 4. This isn't an election where that sort of return rate is acceptable. Get off your lazy ass and fulfill your commitment.

Feature request: I want swap.metafilter.com. I really want to unload my junk on my fellow MeFites, and buy their junk off them. Please, Matt? Craigslist and eBay don't require a 5-spot to join, unlike MeFi, so that cuts down dramatically on the skeezy lowlife scammer factor. Another advantage is that this place is a real community and people care about their reputations. The community self-policing is strong, and MeFi's full of interesting people with (most likely) compelling junk they want to get rid of. One man's junk is another man's treasure.

Also, people here are really creative. Wouldn't it be cool if Miguel could sell his books here, for instance? Or Steven Den Beste could trade anime with other otaku. MeFites who are painters could sell their paintings. Sculpture. And so on.

So... it appears that MeFiSwap is dead or becoming dead. Dreama appears to be very busy with a new kid and everything else that happens in life.

Are people interested in reviving this? I would be willing to do the administration aspect. I would NOT be able to start it until about 3 weeks, as I will be traveling and dealing with school related stuff. Undoubtedly my site style/options will not be as slick as Dream's setup, but I see no reason why it would not work.

This post is just to inquire how much interest there is.

MeFi swap for food? Zpousman asked about it in the moving thread from the gentleman in NYC whose lovely wife misses her home. I am sending a modest care package to the South and have been offered something southern in return - and I don't even know what's down there, let alone crave anything from there. Does someone terribly miss something that can be obtained in Florida? Grumblebee? Are Mrs Grumble's GooGoo Cluster needs met? In my fantasy, someone in upstate NY is dying for something Southern and then turns around and sends me cookies from the Ithaca Bakery.
