Polite request: if you post an AskMe question about a city - where to find so and so in so and so [city], tag it with the [city]. Thanks!
Find me AskMes about gently and efficiently getting kids out of the next, please
I promise that I Googled and searched with the on-site engine, but I just can't find things I know for sure are there - namely, AskMe questions about getting young adult children to gain independence. [more inside]

Looking out onto the ash-filled street, the poetry of T.S. Eliot seems more poignant than ever.

Doxxing Policy
I'm going to an IRL meetup later today, and as an extrovert I love meeting new people, adding them to my friends list on FB, and inviting them to fun things. However, I like to maintain boundaries between my online and offline personas, and my privacy will take precedence over establishing new friendships in 99% of all situations. [more inside]

Is there a good way to have volunteer Mefites critique my grad school personal statement without asking an AskMe? [more inside]
Greasemonkey hacks
Grease my monkey, guvnor: Greasemonkey scripts get talked about a lot in Metatalk comments, and they seem pretty useful. I would like to ask our more Greasemonkey-oriented friends to recommend the best ones and discuss their experience of installing and using them. [more inside]

My Penis is Anonymous But Yours Isn't
I love Ask and I embrace the legitimate need for anonymity, but I seem to be noticing an increasing number of questions where the asker is abusing Ask by hiding behind anonymity while expecting forthright and revealing answers from other members. [more inside]

Let's put the cards on the table.
Whether we use them as bookmarks or +1s, many/most of us have multiple things marked as favo(u)rite. But let's get real here for a second: if you really had to name one favo(u)rite post and/or one favo(u)rite comment -- right now, that's it, that's all you get -- what would it be?

Mr Haughey amusingly discusses MetaFilter
An interesting and entertaining interview of MetaFilter user #1 by Colin Marshall. It's a free podcast, an hour in length.
Does posting text of the article as a description count as editorializing?
Just wondering why this post was deleted. The text of the FPP was simply a copy/paste of the article posted. [more inside]

Hanukkah is early this year and so is the MeFi Mall!
After five years the MeFi Mall is going self-service. Sort of. It's that time of year when people who like that sort of thing can buy/sell stuff to/from other people who like that sort of thing. Last year we had over seventy participants. Interested in being involved in this year's Shops by MeFites? Read on... [more inside]

My world would be complete if, after navigating up and down through posts using j and k, I could then navigate left and right through the links in the selected post using h and l.

2012 Presidential Prediction Contest Winner
Now that Florida has finished counting votes (always a challenge for us), the 2012 presidential election results are 332 electoral votes for Obama and 206 for Romney -- barring faithless electors. The popular vote is 50.6% Obama, 47.9% Romney and 1.5% other. The Nate Silver Medal for Political Prognostication goes to JKevinKing. J. Kevin was one of 15 people to tie for first in the electoral half of the contest with a perfect prediction. He finished third in the popular vote half, ahead of I am the Walrus and UrineSoakedRube who tied for ninth. The $50 Threadless gift certificate and life-size cardboard Joe Biden are on the way to JKevinKing as soon as I send them. Please keep Joe in the lifestyle to which he has become accustomed. Where was that post about cutup vanity URLs?
Hello! I'm trying to find an old post about vanity URLs. It linked to a cool site where you could type in a domain idea and it would carve it up in fun ways using strange domains. So for 'johnsmith' it would offer not only johnsmith.com but also john.smi.th and other options...

Ajax for all!
Ajax updates that allow us to see new comments without reloading an entire page have been a wonderful addition to this site. Any chance we could get Ajax posting as well? This would be really helpful in long threads which can crash my browser after I post a comment.
Congrats to newly elected Justice of the Peace Jessamyn West!
So does this mean that the next Great MetaFilter Enspousening will be an IRL mass-wedding held in Braintree, Vermont?
Thanks, y'all.

November 5
...the primary buffer panel just fell off my gorram post for no apparent reason...
So, I made a post last week and now the main link (the only one above the "more inside") is broken. It's a youtube video that was apparently removed by the copyright holder. What is normally done in these situations? Do y'all summarily delete? Ignore? Is it at all possible (or even worth it) to re-work the post? [more inside]
Election 2012: Domo Arigato, Larry Sabato
The pundits and psychics have already weighed in. Now it's your turn in MetaFilter's (mostly) quadrennial presidential prediction contest. The winner will receive a $50 Threadless gift certificate and a life-size cardboard Joe Biden. To enter, predict the percentage of the vote that President Obama, Mitt Romney and Everybody Else will receive and the number of electoral votes that Obama, Romney and Everybody Else will receive. Entries must be submitted before Dixville Notch, N.H., reports its vote early Tuesday morning. [more inside]
secret quonsar 2012 planning time

MetaFilter Election 2012
What's the plan for US Election Day? Is there going to be one thread continuously updated with the election results or a bunch of them. Conversely, will there be no talk of the 2012 election at all? Do the mods have the day off and will the site be inactive?
Help, please : Differences in news magazine covers?

Comment inflation in Google Reader
I subscribe to AskMe via Google Reader, and the bottom of each post provides a link to the post. The link reads "X comments on this item," where X is always 1 more than the actual number of comments. Not a huge deal, but something I wonder about ever so often. Bug? Ghosts of comments past? [more inside]

Either this or I'm posting in my sleep
My comment in the Catcher-in-The-Rye thread is showing up with an earlier time stamp than comments ahead of it. I can read everything fine, just wondering if it's A Daylights Savings Time thing or if I/the mods should be concerned.

Halp: Googling "your fucking Macbook Pro" didn't bring up any MeFi results.
My Google-fu is failing me: someone posted a comment a while back, probably on the Blue, ranting against the privileged idiocy of "minimalism"/"simplifying your life". It brought up the privileged idiot's Macbook Pro several times, and how they'd like everything in life to be more like it, not realizing that their smooth-lined aluminum shit costs money and most people don't have that. If anyone remembers the comment, I'd greatly appreciate a link!
I didn't even ask for this pony, but I'll take it!
Same account, two different browsers - my Theme preference isn't respected in both browsers. I like this "feature," so I'm just mentioning it - not requesting a change. [more inside]
