Changes to MetaTalk
Just a note to future posters to MetaTalk, I've removed the option to make new posts about "general weblog-related" items, as Blogroots is a much better place to do it, and designed for that subject matter. The site is just getting off the ground but will turn into a resource that is much more fully featured than anything MetaTalk can offer. I also took the "ticketstubs related" category out as I've languished on that idea for two years and it didn't make much sense to keep it around for now. I'm planning on going back to it this summer with the hopes of finally launching it, between the code here, at sportsfilter, and blogroots, I've got everything I need already written somewhere for it.
How to keep up with old but active MeTa threads?
Can someone tell me the secret of keeping up with MeTa threads that have scrolled off the front page but keep getting new posts? Is there something you can search for? (I tried punching in "March 22," but no dice.)
user bares soul, is piled on
Mefi faux pas? aaron bared his soul, and the results are not surprising.
non-programmers want pretty text
Sorry, Matt, but would it be too much to get the Italics, Bold, and Link icons on the MeTa post threads? Is it something you've been meaning to do or what? It really would make life easier for us non-programming types.
New Window for Links in MetaTalk?
Currently, there isnt any option for links in metatalk to open in a new window (metafilter of course has this as a customization option). I guess this is because Metatalk isnt expected to have a lot of external links. But I do sometimes run into some pretty interesting links here. Would be nice to be able to open them in a new window.
MeTa XML stream requested
Alright, I've found the MeFi XML stream, now how about the MeTa XML stream? Search the MeTa comments and couldn't find anything... thanks in advance.
Metatalk training
MetaTalk is not the place for second-string MetaFilter posts
Can we post articles on Metatalk as well as Metafilter?
What is view on posting external articles of interest in metatalk much like metafilter ? Thanks. (PS Wash Post and NY Times articles are posted in comments, as I am somehow unable to link from here, maybe just as well until I get the response.)
What makes all the new comments lights disappear in MeTa?
The moment I click on the first MeTa thread all the useful little "new comments" lights on the other threads disappear. This has never happened over on MetaFilter. What are we, second-class citizens here or what? :) Anyone know a way round this?
continuation of mefi tangent on email clients
This is a continuation of the tangents raised while discussing e-mail clients. Up for discussion:
* whether there is any "naturally occuring phenomenon" in cyberspace
* whether Microsoft understand the environment they are in
* whether Outlook is a secure product or not.

Discussing things that have already been discussed
It seems lately there have been a lot of MeTa threads recently discussing things that have already been discussed to a simply ridiculous level of refinement. Is it appropriate to begin encouraging members to search MeTa before posting in the same way people are encouraged to search MeFi?
[will be posted in metafilter >> feature requests]
In the preview view of the post I just made, it said "[will be posted in metafilter >> feature requests]." Shouldn't that say MetaTalk, not Metafilter?
I hate ending up here
Argh - I hate ending up here. But Sue knew that already, didn't she? *wiggles eyebrows, X-Files theme*
what is specific to metafilter?
What does "topics specific to metafilter" mean, exactly? Specific to "metafilter, the codebase and website" or "metafilter, the group of people who use the mefi codebase"? Reason inside...
MetaTalk Typo
Logging into MetaTalk...

A "take it to MetaTalk" button
A "take it to MetaTalk" and/or "take it to Email" buttonb below the Comment box? In the heat of the moment it would help to be reminded these options existed.
Constructive (or not?) Criticism on Metatalk
Constructive (or not?) Criticism on Metatalk
MeTalk is the place where we gripe about what we think is wrong with certain posts. So what happens when you're a little too straightforward about your opinion? Hurt feelings and accusations of flaming. Was I over the line with my comments? What can we do to ensure that posters don't take offense to criticism doled out in MeTalk? [more inside]

MetaTalk isn't as good as it was in the old days (7/19/01)

Go To Jail Day
Apparently, it's Go To Jail Day here at Metafilter. Someone forgot to tell me.
poppie has posted 1 link and 3 comments to MetaTalk
Now that we have search here (thanks!), I'd like to see user data for MeTa in addition to the MeFi info. For example: "poppie has posted 1 link and 3 comments to MetaTalk."
Ooo, thanks for Search Metatalk.

MetaTalk Getting Crowded
Whoa! What's up with MetaTalk all of the sudden? Now we're getting multiple posts per day in several categories?! I count 12 (now 13) today alone. Is MetaTalk getting too crowded? The quality of the posts and discussion here is really going downhill. Remember when every post was on-topic, relevant, and well thought out? It just seems like posts are tossed up without thinking and comments get even less consideration. It's really wearing me out.
Is MetaTalk anyone's favorite?
Is anyone so hard-core into the community and MetaTalk that they actually start their browsing here instead of in the Filter? I may not be far from it. I find myself participating more over here.
New Metatalk thread indicator
Could you please have a new MetaTalk thread indicator on the main page?
You could either have a MetaTalk (new) indicator in the menu on top, where the "new" doesn't need to be a link, or perhaps near the "There have been X links and Y comments posted since your last visit" you could display a new MetaTalk thread(s) indicator.
This feature is not important, but it would be nice, as I am sure there are others out there like me who forget to check MetaTalk a few times. :)

Advice Threads in MeTa
Would anyone be interested in having a new MetaTalk topic where we could ask advice and opinions of each other? I am interested in buying a digital camera. This one in fact. I know many of you have digital cameras, maybe even the one I want. I would be curious to know what you think. We have tech people here who could advise people about fixing their machines, etc. What do you think?
preview/spellchecking on metatalk
The preview/spellchecking functionality on metafilter is finally available now on metatalk.
Count and layout bugs
The `N# of posts` isn't increasing in Metatalk. I was occasionally coming back and just reading that number last night and it hasn't changed with the addition of (at least) 2 posts.
I think
...breaks the layout, too.

Too many categories, not enough stats
1. these forums are too small to have so many different categories, a single metatalk forum might be better
2. this should go in feature requests, but see above: I would love to see stats, on the site, on links, on users. it's one of the best things about weblogs, and if this is a community weblog, then how about tables and tables of statistics?

A double request: dragging entire threads into Metatalk and provisions for self-linking.
A suggestion for you, Matt. You might consider adding some easy way for you to move topics lock, stock and barrel, comments and all, from MetaFilter to MetaTalk. Then politely leave a link behind saying you've done it.
And having an enormous ego and desire for self-aggrandizement, I think you should have a section here in MetaTalk for people to post things about their websites. I have some things coming up I wouldn't mind the entire universe knowing about (as opposed to both people who come to my site), but I won't be so rude as to drop it into MetaFilter.

New and improved Metatalk
The new and improved MetaTalk is now live. Feel free to tell me what you think about it, and bring up any bugs you find in the bugs area.
The old format was date based, like the weblog, but things discussed here weren't really date dependent. If someone asked for a new feature or highlighted a bug, and I didn't fix it in a week, the post was basically gone forever.
I think the new format meshes better with the way I'd like MetaTalk used - discuss and read topics based on the subject, instead of the date.

MeTa Archives
On an unrelated note, is it possible to see MetaTalk archives?
MeTa Archives
Bug: Go to Metatalk. Click Archives. Get 404. Curse wildly.
Tossed into metatalk again
Bug's still there... if you hit "post a topic" from a comments page, it tosses you into metatalk. I almost did it again. Doh.
It's Alive!
I just made this live, and will be adding the About MetaTalk and MetaTalk archives later this weekend.
