Am I missing the good stuff on MetaTalk?
I will, I confess, spend a lot of my "waiting for that ball to get lobbed back over the net into my side of the court" time at work on Metafilter, including metatalk. A couple days ago, Metatalk suddenly got blocked by my office's net filter as "pornography." The blue and the green were fine, but not this one. No, sir. Now, obviously, it's just as suddenly back on the okay side of the line.
So is this something the mods have to actually manage? Did you know this had happened? Is there someone whose job is to call these various companies up every few days and go "what, me, porn?" Or do these things just flicker in and out of existence without interference for some mysterious reason? (probably related to quantum foam)
Labor Day MetaTalk Queue
It's queue time again. We're going to queue MetaTalk posts this Friday through Tuesday so they can be posted when there are enough moderators around to keep an eye on them. [more inside]
New MetaTalk Contact Form Agreement
We're adding a short blurb and checkbox to the MetaTalk New Post form that reminds people the Contact Form is an option. [more inside]
This has never happened before
This thread has shattered the record for the most comments in Metatalk thread and during the next week might actually break the record for the most comments ever, across all of Metafilter.
Typically threads with high comment counts involve politics or religion or sex. If this thread breaks the overall record, it will do so because of loosely organized nonsense. Wanna help?
Memorial Day MetaTalk Queue
It's a holiday weekend in the US and we're turning on the MetaTalk Queue. [more inside]
A post about metatalk hasn't been deleted yet, and I wonder why
A post about how to use "Metatalk" skill to discuss communication problems and it hasn't been deleted.
But I thought we could discuss why it hasn't been deleted.
Communication is important, I'm just sayin'
A Tricky Question, a Disappointing Response.
I'm referring to this question and this response. Look, Unified Theory, I'd like to give you the benefit of the doubt here, and assume that maybe you didn't read the entirety of a rather long and rambly OP. And I actually agree with parts of your post - I hated the way the question was phrased as well, and I agree that the assumption that it's automatically creepy for an older guy to be attracted to a younger woman is both sexist and ageist. And, I agree with the many other posters stating the the OP that she handled the situation in a very naive way, and needs to give serious thought to how she sets her own boundaries in situations like this.
But. [more inside]
Close this thread up.
I don’t want to point out anyone or any thread in particular, but something I find odd; In almost every MT thread associated with any small controversy (and they’re all small) someone will jump in, usually right away, with "we should close this up", which as far as I can tell is not up for vote but at the discretion of the mods. Deleting comments from MeTa
Hey, what's the deal with a joke comment being deleted from this recent MetaTalk thread? It was mild joke and I thought the bar for deleting comments from Metatal was much higher. I would ask in the thread, but when someone else did that, their comment was deleted, so here we are.
MetaTalk Queue
We're turning on the MetaTalk queue for the weekend. [more inside]
Title customization options added

MetaTalk Holiday Queue Time
With US Thanksgiving rapidly approaching, it's time for another MetaFilter holiday tradition: The MetaTalk Queue. [more inside]
Everyone needs to respect what MeTa is for and remember to use it.
If something needs to go to Metatalk, it seems to me it doesn't need mods discussing it in thread while paying lip-service to the Blue/Grey distinction. If people need to defend their decisions, they can surely just direct the conversation here, not do what looks a bit like a drive-by on a Blue thread.
MetaTalk Queue: Late Summer Edition
MetaTalk posts will be queued this weekend starting this evening and ending late Monday. [more inside]
You know, just in case I want to write something for the Fringe Festival...
I'm looking for a comment that I just can't find and want to read again. It detailed a version of Sex In The City as performed as a Beckett-like Black Box stage production. The women wailed a chorus of " THE SHOES" someone said " I fear I am not fecund". I have tried every permutation I could think of with no success. I'm 99% sure I read it here.
For the millionth time, you can't have your pony!
The good news: MetaTalk has over 1,000,000 comments as of today. The bad news: the millionth comment was apparently deleted.

Chests are good, butts are bad, mmmkay? Bingo!
I'd like to know the reasoning behind keeping some posts up while deleting others, especially as it pertains to these particular threads. [more inside]

Wow, no MetaTalk posts for a whole long weekend
A very happy MLK Weekend to our intrepid moderators! As we know, the holiday weekends can sometimes be problematic, and I'm pleased that the queue you set up worked as planned to give you all a stress-free long weekend. [more inside]

Nascent projects
I'm in the very early stages of developing a web app. Its not close to being ready for MeFi projects, imo, but I'd love to get some MeFite feedback on what I have so far! What is the proper channel for something like this?

What makes a good community manager?
"Yeah, yeah. Having a section of the site dedicated to talking about the site I originally designed that just to keep people from jabbering about like fonts that they didn’t like in the middle of a thread about some news event, and just being like shut up, don’t do that; having a place dedicated has been great because then people can talk openly about lots of things."The July 1st SitePoint podcast is a panel discussion on "...the profession of Online Community, how it’s grown in importance and profile, and what it means to today’s Web," conducted by Patrick O'Keefe, founder of the iFroggy Network: with Venessa Paech, Lead Community Manager of Community Engine; Sarah Hawk, Community Manager of SitePoint; and our own intrepid mathowie. Conflict Free?
There is no way of knowing whether or not the original poster of this question has any idea that many so-called "conflict free" diamonds are anything but or even if it matters to him. But in case he does care and has been convinced that conflict free diamond certification means anything (like many people in the thread seem to have been), how is the information not pertinent to his question? Further, why is it okay for people to tell the poster to buy conflict free diamonds, but it's not okay to point out how difficult this is? [more inside]

Pinning/sidebarring mod posts?
Request: could important posts about the site be pinned to the top of MeTa for a little while? Or sidebarred? Or something? They tend to get lost in the shuffle, and then you have those "Hey, whatever happened to [whatever]?" posts that get closed. [more inside]

Seeking help with my research of online communities
I am writing a dissertation about online communities, and MetaFilter will serve as the primary focus of my research. I need your help to better understand why MetaFilter functions better than so many other online communities. Can you spare 15-30 minutes to complete a short survey to improve our understanding of online communities? [more inside]
