A KISS Reminder for RelationshipFilter on the Ask Mefi Question Page?
Ask Metafilter relationship questions that are 25+ paragraphs long, which is a more and more frequently seen problem, never go well. How about putting wording to that effect on the Ask Mefi posting page? [more inside]

Posting comments from iPhone
When the iPhone first came out, I wasn't able to post a comment directly from the comment page, I had to preview first. Then pb did something to fix it, and that seemed to work for a few months, but now I'm back to having to preview first -- is anyone else having that problem?
How long do you wait before posting to askmefi?
How long do you wait before posting to askmefi? I know in my case I tend to think it over for a few days, try and think if I can figure out what people would say in response ... then post it and be surprised with the results. But I'm curious if other people are more spontaneous.

Pony update: editing after posting
Is it self posting if my wife is involved.
I want to put up an FPP about a not-for-profit that's done something cool, and important, and I want it to get some publicity, because I believe in their mission. But my wife works for them, on a volunteer basis, in a pretty important position.... [more inside]

Can we have a countdown timer for MeFi posts like we do for AskMe posts? How about for MetaTalk?
"Your comment appears to be blank, go back and try again."
I'm trying to post in this thread... I can preview, but when I try to post I just get "Your comment appears to be blank, go back and try again."... and I'm pretty sure my comment is not blank...
Don't Post MeMail In Threads
Don't post MeMail to a thread without the explicit permission of the sender. Like this.

Elephant Day celebrated amidst pomp
Not feeling good about being mostly a reader
I’m MetaFilter user 250, which makes me officially oldschool, but: I very rarely post on any branch; all my old posts are terrible (I checked); my recent posts on the blue are extremely conservative to avoid being terrible like the old ones (many are obituaries); and I pretty much live for AskMe.
I write a ton of things on my own sites, but I never really manage to write very much of use on the various Metas. This at least is my feeling.
I won’t insult anyone’s intelligence by asking “Is it really OK just to read MetaFilter?” Of course it is. I am just wondering how many other early members really, truth be told, never got the hang of front-page posts and other high-profile “content.”
I’m saying this after reading through the archived contributions from some new people (with userIDs 40 times higher than mine), who are way the hell better at it. “We can’t all good at everything”? Or what? What is the right way to react to this?
Turn and face the strain
There have been a few tweaks to tagging, flagging, and posting. [more inside]
MetaFilter should really stop following us around and imitating us.
Onlyconnect and I hosted a gathering yesterday evening starting around 6 pm eastern. Attendees included at least five Mefites. Topics dicussed at that party that have subsequently appeared on the front page through no action of our own include:
- An extended discussion of "Freaks and Geeks"
- The further creative output of Judd Apatow
- Lesbian Until Graduation (LUG)

Ok, so now that February is over, what happens to the AskMe posting limits?
Firefox & AskMe problem
I can't post on AskMe - on the preview page, hitting Post just reloads the preview page. Firefox 2.0.0.1. Not seeing any error messages either.

Code posting woes
Just when I thought I'd figured out how to post code into AskMeFi ... some feature of the back end is changing two single quotes into one single quote?
Comment post preview acting weird
Preview and final post modes have diverged. I keep seeing complaints, after munged or garbled messages, about how 'it looked fine in preview!' [bit more inside]
Headlines cause confusion
PonyFilter: CDC Recommends... what?
It is obvious when you open the post because the headline is shown, but in the front page, it is just confusing... Can the headline be included on the front page, or can there be a note in the posting page that the headline is not shown on the FP, and shouldn't be used as part of the post summary

You are ineligible to post
Idea: what if the "New Post" and "New Question" links vanish-or change to say "You are ineligible to post"-when you aren't eligible? That would eliminate a lot of the "Oh lemme ax metafilter about that." ...*click*... "Sweet Lady Marmalade! I can't yet!"
Then when you're allowed again they change back to normal.

Posts that don't start with a link
Quick question - this is something I haven't been able to figure out. How do I post an FPP where the first words are not a link, such as this recent one by TheWig? Every time I try to leave the URL blank, I get a warning and a request to "please correct this".
Am I just missing something? Forgive me if this is a hopelessly stupid question.

Why do you need to have a certain amount of comments in order to be able to post a link to the front page?
I've just come across this brilliant documentary about Richard Feynman, but I'm not allowed to post it.
You cannot post to the front page at this time. This can be due to one of several things. You may not have been a member long enough, you may not have posted enough comments, or you may have already posted a link in the past 24 hours.
I've been a member for quite a while and haven't posted any link on the front page yet, so the reason must be that I lack the required number of comments. I understand that people need to have an idea what kind of links are appropriate on the front page; the question is whether the amount of comments one makes is a good metric to determine this. I don't often feel the need to comment on front page postings.

PUI or PWI?
Sometimes, like in threads like this, it seems that some are either commiting PUI (posting under the influence) or PWI (posting while intoxicated). What is the correct terminology? (I ask because I do it all the time and it would make a great disclaimer!)

Metadash
Not a complaint--just a question.
Why is it that new FPP's will show up on the Metadash widget about 5-10 minutes before they actually appear on Metafilter? I refresh, still not there, despite the fact I can read it on Metadash. Some sort of time machine?

I behaved myself, but there seem to be loopholes
Having just made an FPP, I can still get to the posting page by pasting the "post_good.mefi" link. I can also put in any user id and it still gets me into preview. I didn't dare to hit post though to see if that works, but I thought I'd point it out.
Looking for an old post.
Here or AskMeFi?
i'm not sure if i should post this here or ask mefi, but i'm looking for an old post that i found around Thanksgiving.
It was a blog and/or humorous editorial about Thanksgiving in the White House. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and/or know where I can find it?
I've searched for keywords and searched the tags, but i'm just not finding it.

what's the best way to avoid a double?
I want to make an FPP (my first), but I want to make absolutely sure it isn't a double post. What is the best/most thorough way to check this? I have tried googling key terms but I get so many results that it would be impossible to search through.
AskMe posting descriptions could be clearer
When posting to AskMe there is some confusion on the descriptions of the text boxes. I copied the italicized text from the "Preview Your Question" AskMe posting page.
Below the "Your question" box the text reads:
This will be the "more inside" area where you explain additional details about the question if necessary. If you use this space, don't write "more inside" to the question area, it will automatically be added for you.
Then below the "Extended explanation" box is something similar:
(optional) This will be the "more inside" area where you explain the question fully if necessary and remember there is no need to write "more inside" .....
I found this a little confusing and repetitive. I know that the top box is what would be a FPP, but maybe this could be phrased better? Is the text below the top box supposed to introduce/explain the second box? Of course, I posted a question so now I can't get back to the original "Post a new question" page to see if that is how this is written there.

I thought these were some great ideas from duck on how to turn a random interesting thought into a good FPP. (The now-infamous 'mushroom' FPP itself is discussed elsewhere)
