AskMe hosed due to a poster's bad HTML
http://ask.metafilter.com/mefi/20292 thread is hosed due to a poster's bad HTML; please repair so that posts can continue. I already tried some closing tag fu on it, no luck. Thanks!
Something's odd with my question thread.
Something's odd with my question thread. Here's what the bottom of the page looks like in Safari and Firefox. I reset Safari and I'm still getting the same thing.
Display problem in Safari 1.3
In Safari 1.3 the background of the top nav panel on AskMe is in MeTa grey rather than green.
I don't think this is how page views are supposed to work.
So when I look at a user's answers in AskMe, they are divided up into a certain number of pages. Yet when I go to the next page of comments, it only adds them to the previous page, and so on, until at the last page I have all their answers in one window. The header and address would say I'm looking at say, comments 51-100, when all 100 are being displayed. I don't think this is how page views is supposed to work.
HTML and CSS cleanup in aisle 40502
Spell with flickr = screwed up thread. HTML and CSS cleanup in aisle 40502, please. (Somehow the font is stuck small, the margin is borked, and I can't even figure out why. Nothing major, but it needs fixin'.)
Connection timeout members
A little bug on the front page. Top right reads "Connection Timeout members | You are logged in as ..." or merely "Connection Timeout members" if I'm not logged in.

Always refreshes to the first view of the day
Everytime I view a MeFi/MeTa/AskMe page, it brings me to the first time I viewed the page that day. I can reload the page and see new posts and/or comments, but if I leave that page everytime I go back it displays the first load of the page, not even the most recently viewed version. [MI]
Is there any call for a "quote" tag?
Is there any call for a "quote" tag? I think threads would look spiffy(er) if the style of quoted text were consistent. For instance:
johnnyEloquent: "Don't bet against yourself, you risk winning."
Hope this isn't a doublepost

UNICEF ad display issue
The UNICEF ad on (not logged in) MeFi is a little funky. I think they were expecting a white background. As it is, the child's face and the "relief" text to the left of it are obscured. Not a big deal, just thought I'd mention it. So this isn't just a complaint, I'm happy to copy/modify/send it somewhere, but I don't know to whom that'd go.
Something changed in the past day with the front page formatting.
Something changed in the past day with the front page formatting. The right hand column now seems to shove everything past the first few lines downwards...but only when you're logged in. I've tried it in both Firefox and IE.
I am in New Zealand, and we are on New Zealand Summer Time
I am in New Zealand, and we are on New Zealand Summer Time. UTC + 12 hours does not cut it - I need another hour. We start summer time early here, and finish it late, so this would make for many months of timezone happiness.

xmas xmas xmas
I love Christmas as much as the next guy, but AskMe appears to be displaying December 25th three times at the moment, although no questions seem to be duplicated.
The use of small tags in front page posts bothers me
The use of small tags in front page posts bothers me. If something is worth saying, it's worth saying properly. A lot of the time it is used for unnecessary commentary about the post itself. Don't! Other times it's used to lessen the impact of a longer post on the front page, but preserving front page space by simultaneously posting less useful content seems like backwards logic to me. In preferences, I've set my small font size the same as my general font size, but it doesn't work.
Is anyone else seeing strange formatting behavior on this thread?
Is anyone else seeing strange formatting behavior on this thread? I'm seeing a white background, right sidebar stuff lining up on the left, and the page text beginning below the sidebar info. It looks like the stylesheet isn't being applied for some reason. (Firefox, Mozilla and IE)
AskMe moves too quickly
I know that the duration of a question's stay on the AskMe front page has been discussed here before, but at the moment there have been 45 (give or take) questions asked today, and only the most recent 25 are displayed. Perhaps the front page should display at least all of a given days questions, even if they are more than 25?
Also, on the AskMe front page, anonymous questions are posted by anonymous, and on the archive pages they're posted by Anonymous Ask Metafilter.

Sponsored Links were really hard to read.
I did a google search on askMe and got great results, but I noticed that the Sponsored Links were really hard to read. (For example) Light grey and yellow on a pale green/blue. I don't know what the click throughs are on the Google searchs, or how important / significant this revenue is. Nor do I care. The Google Ads are readable and unobtrusive and fit well everywhere else in the MeFi domain. This one spot seems like a small oversight. Worth fixing? Not my call.

Is anybody else getting an unstyled Metafilter? Suddenly my blue is white. Specifically, http://www.metafilter.com/styles/default.css appears to be MIA.
The Metafilter 1, 2, 3 years ago links are broken
The Metafilter 1, 2, 3 years ago links are broken... could this be the same as Orange Goblin's problem below?
Did font sizes in the blue change?
Is it just me, or is The Blue displaying in a teeny-tiny font for everyone? The Gray and the Green haven't changed, and neither has any other site that I vist. I first noticed this yesterday (May 12).
If it's everyone, I like the larger font much better. If it's me, anyone have any idea how I can fix it?

There's a weird textad in the sidebar with no title, just a blurb that says something about militiamen and no Unabombers. Since it has no title, it has no link.

I don't come here very much any more, but...
I don't come here very much any more [no time; the Chomsky crowd nauseates me trop] but could someone please offer a possible explanation for why Metafilter no longer looks the way it used to on my IE5.0 for Mac? No more Verdana; more clean, uncluttered look....? My cookies were deleted and replaced; customization is as it should be....?

I'm wanting to add the potential for positive voting on threads
So I'm wanting to add the potential for positive voting on threads, so people can vote [this is good] and then others can view the best stuff from the past few days. I'm having some issues with the display side of things though [more inside]
one doozy of a page
I got sent here in trying to find the post on stupid baby names, and got one doozy of a page as a result. Does this look extremely messed-up to the rest of you? I'm on Netscape 7.0 on Mac OS 9.
Threads and header display screwy
Minor bug? For some reason, threads between 22521 through 22549 are showing up in both Mozilla and IE (Win) as black text on a white background with a seriously screwy top bar. I haven't checked all threads in between, but threads before 22520 and after 22550 seem fine.
White on white mefi
in today's theme, on mozilla 1.0 (sorry, but that's the latest version in debian stable/testing) textareas appear as white on white. i have a general (ie desktop) white on black colour scheme, but mozilla is configured to have a default of black on white. ps my mefi config uses the "other" colour-scheme.
Textad display problem
Are the textads and sidebar breaching into the rest of the front page for anyone else? IE5.2.2 on OSX here.
Special characters
I “think” spéciàl chàràctérs shöuld wörk nöw, thöugh it's pröbably töö éàrly tö sày the böxés and quéstiön marks will be göné. That'll be £5 or 1000¥ or €3.5.
Problem with MeFi displaying really large text.
In Windows XP version 2002, using either Mozilla 1.1 or IE6, renders Metafilter with really big letters that make reading the site difficult. Anyone got any solutions?
there is currently a vertical gap on the front page
With the sideblog open, there is currently a vertical gap on the front page running the entire vertical distance between the last line of the description in the "Today some of us thought it..." post, and the line with Miguel Cardoso line. The gap disappears in the sideblog is closed. This is in my Mozilla for PC.
ASCII display errors
I'm seeing these ? everywhere. It's maddening for those who post them (when they go unseen in the preview), and makes reading difficult. Is there anything that can be done about this? I don't just mean a programming solution, but what is it, specifically, that the users are doing which causes this?
I am very impressed with the new server.
I am very impressed with the new server. One bug: Mefi blue and Metatalk grey/brown are not nearly as vivid as they used to be. If I enable colorsync on IE, things look fine, but that was never necessary before "(and AOL seemingly prevents me from keeping colorsync on). Can this be corrected?
I do not care for the recent upsurge in images being posted to threads.
Am I the only one who does not care for the recent upsurge in images being posted to threads? I hate to sound like my grandfather yelling at the kids in his yard, but it really irks me. I come here to read, not look at stupid images of Barney, fox medals and purses. Although, looking for the specific examples of the last two, maybe Matt has been deleting them?
FPP hogging the front page
Hogging the front page. Yes, I can read around this, but it takes up pretty much my whole window. As members don't we have some responsibility to keep the front page looking like a log of the web, rather than a Chinese protest wall?
The sidebar page has a case of indentitis.

are we no longer allowed to use font tags in comments?
Speaking of fonts -- are we no longer allowed to use font tags in comments? Mine seem to be getting stripped out during preview. This interferes with my ability to make snarky side comments.
How about subtly altering the color of every other post?
I have trouble sometimes telling posts apart when people use multiple paragraphs. How about subtly altering the color of every other post to improve readability? For example alternating white and light grey.

Deleted post topic pony
Instead of simply deleting posts that people suggest should be deleted, remove them from the front page and disable further new posts on them. That way people like me who don't read MeTa very often will still know what you guys were talking about and why thread x should've been deleted rather than just having to figure it out from comments.

There's a little image (right_banner.gif) at thet top right corner of every page that's not loading for me. It's not broken, it's just not loading. I don't know if I've ever even noticed it before. Is it showing up for anyone else?
