Everybody knows somebody named Matt. On this national holiday, how about a $21.95 pledge drive, to purchase a very useful present for the fearless leader?

Mathowie interview
"Matthew Haughey, a blogger who has been writing about TiVo for three years on www.pvrblog.com, thinks customer support issues for existing DirecTV-TiVo subscribers may be the biggest reason for DirecTV to have extended the agreement." (via forbes.com)
MediaShift interviews mathowie
'I did my best to make the place as welcoming as possible, and eventually a few hundred people showed up and we had something good,' Haughey told me via email. 'Since then, I think the strong sense of community — the sense of belonging and getting something out of the participation is what drives people to contribute. There are no points or karma or awards, but I think members enjoy sharing interesting links and comments with each other and seeing their name mentioned on the site.'Scary picture, too

Happy birthday, Matt!
As mentioned here, we would be remiss if we did not acknowledge your slow approach to age thirty. Happy birthday Matt, you whippersnapper, and thanks for keeping MF Co. on your to-do list.

Comedy of Server Errors
Sorry for the downtime, I was tweaking one small aspect of the server when a comedy of errors ended up with two hours of hair pulling before the server was reachable once again. Everything should be back to normal now.
Anonymous Extortion
How much do you suppose Mathowie makes in extortion from the people who post anonymous AskMe posts? Think about it: HE KNOWS WHO YOU ARE!
Rebecca Blood interviews #1
Part one of Rebecca Blood's interview with Matt Haughey, the first subject of her new "Bloggers on Blogging" series; part two is to be posted Friday. Both Matt and Rebecca were listed among the AlwaysOn/Technorati Open Media 100 list.
Has mathowie gone commercial?
Disclaimer: This is something you need a TV to know about...
Has anybody but me seen a commercial for Volkswagen (apparently SoCal VW Dealers, but maybe showing in other regions) in which the salesman outside the car is pointing out all the comfort features to the wife in the driver's seat while the husband on the passenger's side is just using the power seat to go up and down and up and down? You'd know it if you saw it, because the actor playing the husband is (to me) a dead ringer for Matt Haughey (including the glasses). I can't find a video of that commercial online anywhere, but I wonder if some actor is going to make a career out of impersonating Our #1... (Or is the resemblence just another sign of my worsening dementia?) Dammit, they are the same glasses!!!

A, B or C-list bloggers
If you ever wondered what an A, B or C-list blogger is, here's you're opportunity to learn. Our friend, Matt, is apparently an A.
The early days of MeFi
Looking back in the archives, almost every post (except for 4) in August of '99 was submitted by #1. I wonder if those first few months of MeFi's life was frustrating.

MetaFilter Quoted in the Press re: BBC "Office"
This New York Observer article uses a Metafilter thread as its sole source of "Internet" reaction to the new American version of the BBC program "The Office." Our dear mathowie is among those quoted.
Not our most shining moment....
Not our most shining moment, as spotted by Leonard. Hopefully it's just holiday stress manifesting itself as assholery that'll blow over after the new year. One can hope.
congrats!
Mathowie, blog advisor to the stars
User Numero Uno gets a shoutout from Gary Becker, a Nobel laureate in economics, and Richard Posner, a prolific author and influential federal judge. I just wanted to say thanks to Matt for assisting these two true intellectual heavyweights in getting online. Although the original test posts have now been deleted, you know you have groupies when your "Hello world" posts get 25 trackbacks.
Thanks from Mathowie
Holy mother of god. It's official, even though I was kind of worried about ponying (heh) up the dough for a couple of high ticket servers, I made enough money off the $5 signups today to pay for one year's hosting. So I want to say thanks to all the new users for ensuring the future of this place. I love ya. Some more news inside
mathowie on MarketPlace
Just heard a segment on MarketPlace that featured Matt Haughey and the future of TiVo. Rock on.
Moving metafilter to new server
Moving on up... If all goes well, I'll start moving everything over to our new servers later today. When that happens, I'll be shutting the site off during the move (to conserve bandwidth for moving actual files). Just a heads up that the site may be down between now and say, Monday at the latest.

Mathowie called out re full text of Bush acceptance speech
Just to be clear: the point of MetaFilter is to find the best and most interesting of the web to share with others.
Does this really count as part of that? The post title isn't exactly encouraging level-headed discussion either.

How much cash would it take for Matt to quit his job and devote himself to moderating Mefi?
mathowie has written that if it generated enough cash he'd quit his job and devote himself to moderating and maintaining MetaFilter. This prompts two questions:
TiVo industry observer mathowie
So I'm putting around in my car about a half hour ago, listening to KYW newsradio in Philly, and a "Washington bureau" correspondent starts talking about how Tivo users can now share their shows. Cool, I'm thinking, some pretty mainstream exposure for TiVo. Then the reporter cuts to "industry observer mathowie"...
Or is he?
Ask Metafilter update from mathowie 6/14/06
Ask Mefi update: all the questions and answers are in a new database, meaning that new features will be coming soon. First up will be links to all questions and answers on your user page, probably done tonight. Then categories, keywords, and all sorts of cool shit. Let me know if you find any errors in the meantime.
Meetup with mathowie in the Land of Eng?
Since the dawn of time, there have been whisperings of the mystical and all-powerful 'Number One', and his fabled arrival in the lands of Albion, where he is prophesised to bring pancakes, ponies and European uptime to all. Of late, many British have said he is to come in June and wish to bestow upon him large quantities of ale. The only questions that are left are, will the one called 'mathowie' be willing to grace us with his presence, and if so, when can we expect his arrival?
what's "MetaFilter Matt" doing making ponies for Boing Boing
I don't mean to be prick (okay, maybe, but a funny one), but what's "MetaFilter Matt" doing making ponies for Boing Boing, when we have a million things for him to do here?
"...Matt Haughey, editor of the popular blog MetaFilter."
From the article linked today in the sideblog on the Blue:

Editor? Then why haven't you ever fixed my typos?!?
