How about a meetup within a protest?
I've submitted this to Projects since I think the issue has nation-wide interest, but I also wanted to shout out to the Baltimore & D.C. area mefites whose backyard this is happening in and invite you all to come along. If you haven't been following the Silver Spring photo debacle covered by the Washington Post, DCist, DC Metblogs (disclosure: that's me) and others, you might not be aware of our planned gathering on July 4th.
We've scheduled it at Noon so you still have time to leave and head off to whatever BBQs and fireworks watching you have planned for the evening and the location is just two blocks from the Silver Spring metro.

Time for another Grand Rapids meetup? wobh will be making an appearance here next week, and I thought that it would be a great time for a meetup. I suggest Thursday, July 5, 8pm, at the Pickwick on Cherry Street. If that is not a good time, Friday would also work, or Monday (July 2) in a pinch. Other nominations for locations are also welcome.

I'd like to see the meetup list on the front page in the blue, just to get bigger turnouts (and a better sense of community). I imagine there's quite a few people who don't regularly visit Metatalk, but would like to go the meetups.

Is it possible for admins or orginal posters to edit at the top of a meetup post? Like in this recent meetup thread. It's confusing to read through the whole thing and come out with no idea of whether time, date and place have been settled.

Is it time for a Boston-itself-Boston meetup soon? I flew in thismorning, got my apt settled & now don't have work until the 26th. I'm right by Symphony, & can get anywhere the T goes, but I have neither bike nor car so I can't make much past that. I'm also (sadly, believe me) under 21, so I fear a pub crawl (as much as I'd love it) is out of the question. Also, would anyone living here be up for not-too-serious-slightly-more-than-but-basically-touch rugby on a semiregular basis?

In response to a post, I've successfully compelled my wife to celebrate Frida's 100th birthday tonight at Frida's on State St here in Madison, Wisconsin. No planning or thought has gone into making this a real Mefi meetup. Our reservations are for 7pm. If you're in the area, drop by and say hi. I hear margaritas are cheap tonight, or something (I'm not a drinker).

I noticed that the meetup mentioned in this thread has made the 'gatherings' sidebar. (I'm assuming that the meetup will take place this year, and not in 2009, as suggested.) In the thread, there weren't many details regarding a place or a time. Has any of this been decided yet? Not to make like Mother Superior and jump the gun, but if this thing is really happening, I want to buy my plane tix pretty soon.
