Private tags instead of bookmarks?
On bookmarking of threads, especially in Ask Metafilter. [more inside]
Link to the tags page on the posting page, please.
Minor request. Could we have a link to the tags list URL on the Post a Link page? Thanks.
gradschool + grad_school + graduateschool = 25 posts.
Batshitinsane Tags
Where did my "batshitinsane" tag go in this post? Was it deemed inappropriate?
No Unicode Support for Tags
I dig the new Unicode support and all, but Unicode does not work within tags.
There's good and there's bad.
I'd like to give a thanks to the new "your link has been found in another post" feature, and a pox to those people who don't use tags.
Tagging functions updated
I changed the way tags are done on mefi. You can now delete your tags and make new ones on your posts. If this works out, I'll extend it to let you tag your mutal contacts as well (and I'll copy the functionality to ask mefi as well). Let me know if you run into any problems. Also, me and jessamyn can add and delete tags on any post and will use this to help keep things organized.
Are tags broken?
Are tags broken? I can not add tags to my last post.
Missing Tags
So my post posted but the tags I added at the time of writing did not.
Do we really need tag editorializing?

Is there a way to change tags once assigned?
Is there a way to change tags once assigned? In my case, I seem to have misspelled appalachian, but it occurs to me conversations can shift in-thread that an original poster might want to make note of as well.
How do you pick tags?
Now that tags for front-page posts have been around a while, how do you decide between, say, film and movies (89 posts to 87, respectively), tv and television (57-49) or math and mathematics (20-18)? Do you use both, go with the most-used, or what?
Valid HTML
What HTML tags are allowed on the three main Metafilter sections? (I dare not experiment for obvious reasons.)
RSS feeds for comments and tags? Maybe per user?
I'd like to see individual comments feeds for all MeFi posts. This would make threads much easier to track. Also, could we get feeds for MeFi tags too perhaps? And what about feeds for each user's posts and comments, like how 43 Things uses them.
Poster and tags in RSS
I'd like to see the poster and tags for each post in my RSS newsreader. Do you think the RSS feeds could be updated to include them in the
and
tags?Tagging and categorizing old AskMe posts.
Sorry if this has been covered, but will we have the chance to go back to our old AskMe posts and not only tag them (as is currently possible) but also put them in the correct category, as as currently not possible? And is there any volunteer effort being organized to go through and tag (and/or categorize) old posts that have not been tagged by their creators?
Combined tags aren't working right on AskMe.
Something is screwy with AND-ed tag lookup on AskMe. The count seems correct but the result list is either empty or shows a post that is tagged with neither tag. Examples: art+music, mp3+music.
Changing Tags
I've started tagging my AskMeFi posts and realized that in some instances, the resulting answer(s) would serve as valuable tags. Not knowing what the answers are going to be when asking a question, I hope we'll eventually be able to change/add tags once a live question has been answered.
Title Tags for AskMe
Is there any way to add a title tag to AskMe posts? A title would make it much easier and faster to bookmark well-answered posts.
Minor new tags feature.
Minor new tags feature. Look at the page for all posts tagged with flash. See the related tags on the side? Those are words commonly paired up with "flash". Clicking on the names will take you to posts tagged with that term. Here's the new part: see the + sign? That combines the two. Here's all flash posts that were also tagged music.
Tag mispelling
okay, so I for some reason I keep mispelling veganism. I really don't care about the one in the post, but can the tag be changed?
Tags for deleted double posts
Tag problem? Searching for the Jeff Gannon thread to post this juicy update, I found this page, which says there's a tag but doesn't show it. I think it may be a tag for a deleted double post?
Post-post tag alteration?
Is there a way to alter the tags once a post has been made? I posted this with the tags "new orleans jazz funeral" and in hindsight, New Orleans and jazz funeral are single entities. Should they have an underscore? Should there be a way to group them? Suggestions?
Adding Tags
Speaking of which, how do you add tags to a post? If I look at the list of posts I've made, and click on "add tags to this post", I just get what seems to be the regular comments page. (URL is different, though.) Am I just being obtuse?
Adding tags to my old thread caused a mess.
I made my old thread unhappy when adding tags. Not sure how that happened.
someone likes the sound of his own name
It would seem that friend quonsar has been experimenting with tags to propel his username into Top150 glory. Harmless fun, a really good idea, or destructive to the idea of freeform tags being useful (since we can see all his posts, if we're so inclined, from his userpage already)? You decide!
Tags now avaible!

questions get pushed down off the page at AskMe too damn fast
As has been noted before, questions get pushed down off the page at AskMe too damn fast. Most of the questions are good ones. Which means, I guess, we need some better information architecture (categories or something) to happen. When, oh lord†, when?
AskMe Categories
would anyone else like to see categories like here in metatalk on askme? (mi)
AskMe Titles
I want this pony
I want this pony: To help make the AskMe archive a little more mineable and thereby cut down on repeat questions, might we include either arbitrary keywords, selected by the questioner, to flag the question, or more simply a choice of categories to apply to the question (as we have in MeTa)?
Indexing AskMe
Is anyone already thinking ahead to indexing AskMe so that all the dog questions or MP3 player questions or digital camera questions can be seen together, both as an aid and as a way to keep down too many duplicative posts?
I am far too lazy to do it myself, of course, but figure one of you spiffy computer-geek types might be thinking along these lines already and have something for us.

MeFi tag list down?
The list of MeFi-tags seems to be down. Anyone got a copy?
Is it secret, or is it safe?
Please, if your front page post links to anywhere remotely not worksafe, could you make sure this is properly flagged?
fake tags break css
Fake tags break CSS. I assume it has to do with automatic tag closure. If it must be done, using [faketag]brackets[/faketag] seems safe.
Formatting gets messed up
On some threads, at the bottom usually, the formatting gets messed up, i guess it's some tag people put in, but i don't see it. after the switch happens i can no longer post in the thread, although i have seen other people continue a thread with bad formatting. just wondering what it is, and, if it's a bad tag, maybe people can start closing them.
You can now leave tags open wily nily on MetaTalk
You can now leave tags open wily nily on MetaTalk (coming soon to MetaFilter).
This is a test to make sure unclosed tags get closed. Of course it will work. (I purposefully left the bold and italics tags open on this post

Is the front page shrinking?
Is the front page shrinking? (more..)
Can we ban the use of the tag?
Can we ban the use of the <font> tag? Or at least run a test to make sure if someone opens an HTML tag they have to close it? If I have to read one more shrunken thread I'm going to scream.
Italicized front page
Can someone put a tag on the front page?
Everything after the description of the very first entry is now in italics.

Just happened to look at the MeFi source
Just happened to look at the MeFi source and realized that it contains no fewer than ten META tags, all identical expiration directives with a date in 1990. Is this some kind of workaround for a weird browser bug with expiring pages from its cache? If so I'm mildly curious to hear which browser needs ten copies of the tag to take the hint. ;)
HTML Tidy
I realize I'm probably the last person on the web to have noticed this program, but HTML Tidy is pretty cool. It's an open source utility for cleaning up HTML: closing mismatched tags, etc. It seems that Haughey currently has to go in at times and close tags that posters leave open. I wonder if filtering entries through a program like this could save him from that chore. I'm sure this isn't the only utility of its type; does anyone know of others?
