Site design request: Preview and Post buttons, can we make them not so samey? Or not so close together? Or both? [more inside]
Is there a way to search my favorites for comments I have favorited by a specific user? [more inside]
Dear mods, I posted an askme question on the blue. So sorry! Please delete with prejudice
When is the best time to post to "Ask" in order to have the most looks with the least number of new posts pushing my question off the page? Has anyone figured this out? Is this "cheating"?
I posted in this thread that I thought he should respond with, "Yeah, that's fucking bullshit, huh?" Did that get deleted? Is there a no profanity rule on mefi that I don't know about, or did I violate some other rule?
I'm looking for a Metafilter post that was about a browser ... um, application? or plug-in? or site? that featured different windows so you could drag/arrange your pages into groups by arbitrary topic or category, or work vs. leisure browsing, or whatever you wanted. Do you remember that? [more inside]
I flagged this post (as other) on the blue because 1) It doesn't do what it says on the tin 2) it's behind a paywall 3) it has one link with no other information. Should posts only linking to a paywall be on the blue?
I've been trying for months now to find a metafilter post from a year or two back. It was MLYT, to someone who made short video pieces - as I recall, a lot of them were of carefully assembled stacks of things falling over. [more inside]
Racking my brains here looking for a semi-recent (this year? 2009?) Ask Metafilter question: Someone's wife was documenting every perceived slight and argument, I believe by printing out chats and emails. Please tell me I'm not imagining this post, as it had some thoughtful answers that would be useful to show to a friend to whom this is now happening!
I'd probably want to sweep this booger-string of a deleted thread under the rug too if it was my site. But it's sort of sad to lose such a gold star collection of mefi members practicing the non-bigotry they preach, so if anyone lost a comment they're particularly proud of the deleting mod pretty much invited you to re-post it to the open thread here.
I just made my first post to metafilter. [more inside]
why was my AskMeFi response deleted? [more inside]
I swear we've seen these Askme questions dozens of times before, but I can't find them. I'm looking for those posts about not being able to drink and how to cope with it. [more inside]
When crafting a front page post, you may end up using the copy/paste feature of your OS. Some web sites are using Tynt to track copying and insert links and other useless info into your clipboard. John Gruber discusses the annoyance that Tynt causes and how to cut it off at the start.
The Metafilter FPP Game!! [more inside]
Pony/suggestion: What about being able to browse posts by multiple tags, but with OR as opposed to merely AND. This would mostly be to combat tag redundancy, but could also be useful in general. [more inside]
Can you point me to this thread (or the artist/sculptor) please? [more inside]
A suggestion for AskMeFi: rather than (or in addition to) anonymous postings, why not give everyone a few throwaway accounts? [more inside]
Problems Posting a Comment. [more inside]
Would it be possible to have a search box on Activity subpages -- in other words, a search function that limits itself to a single user's comments or posts? [more inside]
I realize we have sort of a policy of not editing posts, but is there any chance an update could be added to the NY Marriage Equality post? [more inside]
How is it that I can see this post but click through to a profile on which no posts are listed? (also, user seems to be "signing" his posts with "sscct")
I'm looking for a particular FPP. It was within the last three months, and it was about how to be skeptical of science/things you read on the internet. It was really good, but I didn't have time to read it all then (and I was drunk), and I just now am regretting that I never finished it. I've tried searching, but things like "skeptical" and "science" return a lot of results. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Other sites have a little tick mark or a "new" tag for posts that you haven't seen. Can MetaFilter do this also? Yeah, I know that MeFi has the "xx new posts" thingie, sbut should/could it mark the new ones? (I have been reading MeFi and AskMe for some time. I have registered andposted a few times in AskMe. Heck, I've even had a MeFi post deleted by Jessamyn! But this is my MetaTalk first time.)
Is it inappropriate to comment that you're unimpressed with a post? [more inside]
I just want to say that this is one hell of a strong first-post that has really flown under the radar. [more inside]
Why was my post bumped? [more inside]
My Askmefi question only recieved one answer...I realize that this must just happen every so often, but I'm wondering, a) how I might avoid it, and, b) can I ask the same question again in the hopes of getting more answers? [more inside]
Once someone asked a question that was inappropriate for some reason (chat filter?) and then everyone freaked out and started posting weird stuff. This was maybe a year ago. It never happened again, that I saw. It was sort of funny. But I don't know why/how/what happened. [more inside]
Help me find an old Mefi post. Hours of searching the archives has been fruitless! [more inside]
What are your odds of winning December's "best post" contest?
Is there a good way to get email notifications of updates to AskMe threads? [more inside]
Why do I get an email telling me my AskMe post has been posted when I just posted it and saw it be posted and therefore possessed no doubt concerning its posting?
I think it's about time Kattullus got a pat on the back for a staggering output of consistently excellent posts.
I would like to know what people's thoughts are on the idea of allowing Metafilter posters to make a "second edition" of a post after a certain amount of time has passed (a week?, a year?). [more inside]
Looking for a post about a programmer who worked at Atari and blogged about his work... [more inside]
What the hell? Silent deletion of my FPP! I know that political correctness is the force that moves Metafilter, but come ON here people! The post was a short one, centered on this story: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,314564,00.html and apparently that's a story that Metafilter is not ready to handle at this point in time.
I'm as big a fan as anyone of the LOL-christian/republican-does-something-out-of-character story, but this is in poor taste.
So I noticed that comments I've made in a posts which are subsequently deleted don't show up in my profile's activity...
I download what I imagine might be legally construed as "copyrighted material" all thie time. But I'm actually upset with this post because I know some people that worked on US v. John Lennon. (Double standard, I know.) So are there any guidelines about posting full-length, copyrighted movies? Is this post this even in good taste? Where's the context? Does it have any intent other than to illegally distribute a movie? Is this even a problem?
I don't understand why this was posted. Most LOL XTIANS get deleted; why is this one still here?
Remember Modest Needs? They turned five years old this week and hit one million dollars in funds dispersed since they started. In the anniversary post, the founder mentions they got their whole start thanks to that post on mefi.
It's pretty minor, but an & in the post title turns into 'amp' in the url. example.
Loudon Dreps: self-link, no. Friend-link, yes. Was this post deleted because it sucked, or because I know the guy? If both, I concede. If only because of association, is that transgression articulated somewhere? I couldn’t find it.
WhatWasThatPostFilter: Maybe a year or so ago, somebody posted a link on the blue to a grainy video of what seemed to be pretty violent interrogation. Screamed "viral video", and, as far as I can remember, was derided as such in the thread comments, and maybe even deleted. Anyone remember it? And if so, did anything come of it?
I posted this and got a timeout error message. So I tried again and got a different error message. But on the third try, I got the message telling me the link had already been posted. So one of the two attempts that generated an error message actually worked.
