not ready to swim in the adult pool

Yet another specific example from the same user that they're not ready to swim in the adult pool. Is this harsh lambasting of every less-than-perfect-in-thine-own-eyes answer really proper AskMe decorum?

"An attack on Iran is on"

Actually, so far, it's not. Not yet, anyway, although I readily concede it's probably coming.

I have no problem with a FPP recounting developments to date about a likely future event, but it's disingenuous to the point of trolling to use a phrase that says the event is actually taking place.

Mefi projects: promoting porno piracy

Mefi projects: promoting porno piracy. Complete with image hotlinking, and instructions for disabling refer sending, to avoid .htaccess protection. Crap like this is the worst of the web, IMO.

Self-policing the self-police

I'm sure this has been MeTa'd to death. At least I'm pretty sure. Even so, I'm going to drag out the horse and make him glue:

What can we constructively do to curtail the post vigilantes or post thought police? [mi]

Your favorite logo font sucks.

I don't know if it is the kerning or the tracking but the letterspacing on the small font in the logo really sucks (not so noticable on MetaTalk, but check out "querying the hive mind" on AskMe and "community weblog" on MeFi). Don't make me call the typography police.

MeFi admin double standard for posts?

At the same time that mathowie posts a site hosting game ROMs from the 1980s, my link to a BitTorrent file of a 1950s and -60s recording of a 19th century classical work was removed. Funny ol' world...

Vigilance

You have got to be joking? No. Considering the number of self-links that we've been having lately, I think that it's worth everyone's time to appreciate people who are keeping their eyes open for them, and to give them credit for trying, even if that particular link turned out to be a dud.

Too Much Trolling

There seems to be a contingent of people on this website (we all know who they are) who feel the need to pollute threads that would be otherwise relevant, reasonable, and/or interesting. They come in, spew their opinion, and then proceed to turn thought-provoking material into a three ring circus. After having to sift through heaps of vitrol to find comments that even remotely relate to the topic at hand twice today, I've had enough. Your need to have your last word in a public meeting space that prides itself on civil, topical conversation is disgustingly revealing of your immaturity and arrogance. As a user of this site who is primarily a lurker, I want to make a statement on behalf of those people who come here for the fascinating content: If you feel the need to troll and argue, shut up already.

Inciting a felony?

Ask.MetaFelony? Posts like this one seem to be Ask.Metafilter assisting someone to commit a felony. I know we have recently seen other criminally-related Ask.Me posts deleted, so why is this one allowed to stand?

Anonymous askme derails: a reboot?

Umm, yeah. I realize this callout is pointless since the the poster in question is so blatantly abusive and off-topic, but I thought it might be necessary to create this thread so the original anonymous poster could have an additional thread in AskMeFi so we could help him.

Self-link ahoy

This is the second time RonZ's linked to komar.org. The first time was to the halloween lights display and this time it's the christmas lights. If I recall correctly, the original poster of the christmas lights thing was outed as a self linker (although I can't find the thread) so I suspect it's a sock puppet at work.

Sweeping generalizations = bad

Much as I love all kinds of inflammation... Single Link Opinion post or not, there's something to be said for not making sweeping derogatory generalizations about a type of person when your link is about one person. Following that up with snide remarks and sniping fellow MeFites who question the word choice? Always the way to go.

I'm calling myself out and then wandering away

My latest FPP might raise a few eyebrows and get called out here on MetaTalk. I just wanted to say here first therefore that I've left a trailing empty link at the post's conclusion on purpose. Yeah, I looked at the guidelines and I don't think this breaks the rules. And yes I have a legitimate reason for leaving the empty link, although I want to wait before disclosing what that is here on MetaTalk. I am doing this for the better of MeFi members however.

what warrants a rude response like this?

Newbie etiquette question: I thought this was a pretty cool post about a topic on which I was I poorly informed [Cyprus, Varosha]. For future reference, what about a post like that warrants a response like this? Is there a backstory? Why so personal?

Not all answers on AskMe are good

This answer is terrible, unsupported, and if the advice given were to be followed, would will lead to nothing but grief if someone were to follow it. It is sufficiently ill-informed and potentially disaster-inducing as to inspire me to request it be deleted rather then simply flagging it and moving on.

This post actively insults anybody who wants to answer the poster's question with a specific recommendation. I'd like to nominate it as the worst answer ever.

User complaining about comment deletion

My second of two comments made in this thread http://ask.metafilter.com/mefi/25241 was removed apparently because I disagreed with someone who was complaining that the tangents related to the discussion were not germane to it (http://ask.metafilter.com/mefi/25241#399539).

Of course, since I'm posting this, I disagree with the removal. If this is standard way, we are limiting the involvement of human opinion in Ask MeFi, and end up with nothing more than regurgitation of facts that could probably be gained much better elsewhere on the internet.

Could the person who moderated this clarify the removal?

all google, all the time

Do we really need an FPP every time Google releases, or announces, or speculates about the possibility of perhaps one day developing, a new product or service ?

In addition, do we need a new FPP every time someone combines one of said products or services with another vendor's?

Is this what MetaFilter's about?

Is this what MetaFilter's about? I don't want to point fingers at eriko specifically, but come on, people. Are we going to have to institute a swear jar? Or a polysyllabic personal insult jar?

There comes a time when you need to step away from your keyboards, folks. Take a few minutes outside, maybe find a tree to sit under and do some breathing exercises.

I've never done a "call-out" on anyone in the year (well, not quite) that I've been here, but this really bothers me. People are suffering and you are arguing. You know what they say about not being part of the solution, folks. Again, this is NOT just eriko. You know who you are. I've never wanted to leave the site before today. But I paid my money; why should I leave? Why should anyone leave? Can we try to get along instead?

Steven Spielberg thread next to be led into I/P debate

Cleardawn seems dedicated to posting long discourses about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in any post that mentions Jews or a Jewish person, even in passing, and has succeeded in derailing a number of recent threads. Here and here and here., and probably elsewhere as well. The user obviously thinks that they are fighting the good fight, but this is clearly getting to be a bit much, and they don't seem to listen. Help?
