"Winer exception"

Is there some sort of "Winer exception" to the Mefi Prime Directive? I sure hope not...

STEP AWAY FROM THE KEYBOARD

I'll take it MetaTalk Skallas! And I want to know where you get off?
BTW happily taking my meds, taking it to MetaTalk and definitely wondering where you get off. . .

This sort of behavior has no place on MetaFilter.

This sort of behavior has no place on MetaFilter. I know that people are upset, but that's really no excuse.

I like rainbows. They are nice.

Today it's raining outside, but I think it's just a shower. It was sunny yesterday, and I hope it'll be sunny tomorrow. Is summer your favourite season? What sort of weather do you recommend? I like rainbows. They are nice.

please don't do this

Not really very pleasant at all....I'm not sure if singling someone out is the best thing to do, but there's no email address on his profile, the URL is dead, and all of his comments have been like this of late... we all have bad weeks, but this just stuff is just pointless.
Is it worth noting, or am I being too much of a schoolmarm?

No more Stile links, please.

Please, in the name of whatever faith-based tradition you espouse, no more Stile links! Kee-rist.

Calling out the crumudgeons

Abusive Backlash

Abusive Backlash

One user dismissed a silly joke as being old and he got totally reamed by the originator of the joke. Was the reaction really justified? Shouldn't it have been in Metatalk anyway? [more inside]

Politics and demographics.

Ideology versus Scalability; Conservative versus Liberal; Kant's Categorical Imperatives versus the Scottish "Common Sense" philosophers; Yanks versus Brits; Democrats versus Republicans; Kudos from Sardine; and startling Mefi Demographic information!

Obits Callout

Callout

Were the end of this thread a football match, yellow cards woudl be shown. Were it an ice hockey game, there'd be penalties. Within MetaFilter, it's really not on.

I am too good for this, and I am telling you that now.

Of all the cheap rhetorical tactics employed here, I think my favorite is "you people are sick and this conversation is beneath me, so I'm not participating except to note this fact" (#1, #2, #3, #4).

This post is practically a double

It's posts like this one that really disappoint me. Talk about previously covered territory -- every element of that post has been discussed here at one point or another. If it's an important topic that needs more discussion, could we at least wait until there is some new development that gives a proper excuse for bringing it up? Alternately, I'll just shut up and we can all go back to flogging the dead horse.

Aanimosity & Antaganism on the Blue

i'm kind of shocked by the amount of animosity & antaganism in the past couple of days.

there's the guy with the famiy tree website

the tasteless thread about Douglass Adams' death coupled with the personal attacks on the dissenting poster

...and i haven't got the stamina to sort throught the fetus is a person thread -- but something's going on over there too.

...and while we're at it, i'm also troubled by the fact that no-longer can there be any kind of thoughtful discussion in a transgender thread.

I think 'no likey' perpetuates a racial stereotype

"No Likey"? I hate that phrase and think it perpetuates a racial stereotype. I've seen it a couple times in comments and it blasted me on the front page today. I'm not saying anyone that uses it is racist, nor am I asking that anyone be condemned for using it. I just wanted to make my feelings known. You may disagree.

And how much worse have we seen now!

This comment in the longest thread ever seems inappropriate. Is this some inside joke, wholly out of line, or both?

Does this need to be moderated?

Man, them's fighting words. In Matt's words, we're all in this together and we're self-policing. Does any policing need to go on in these threads or similar instances?

this is not a personal shot at aaron, although he is involved in both altercations.

i think we should take more care to limit our disparaging personal comments. what do you think?

Is MetaFilter too similar to Drudge?

Take a look at Drudge, then take a look at MeFi. Way too many similar links.

Perhaps MeFi could have a separate board for "news and politics" with a setting that posts with 15 or more comments jumps to the main page?

Basically there are just too many Drudge-cribbed news links on the front page.

Ideas?

Is a call for a beatdown an appropriate response to bad taste?

I'm curious about the etiquette issues involved in today's thread about teen sex. Aside from the issue of the tastelessness of this joke, what is the relative appropriateness of the suggestion that someone should commit violence upon the joker? Is a call for a beatdown an appropriate response to bad taste?

Tired of Ralph Nader posts

Now I would never, never try to impose my own ideas about what should or should not be posted on MeFi, but for the last three weeks I've been wishing I could go somewhere and set some field that said "Don't show me any thread whose parent includes either the words Ralph or Nader". Oh, how I wish I had that.

In the nine months I've been an active participant, I've never wanted such a thing before now. Well, only two more weeks and then it will all die down. I guess I can last that long. But it's been a long time since I've seen such an appalling waste of bits. grumble grumble

MeFi post as callout

I think starting a new front-page thread just to call another user out is going too far, especially when said user explicitly asks to take it to e-mail.
