Multi-single-link post callout

I hate to do this, but this post really sucks. So does this one. This one, too. Not the best of the web.

Askme advice advocating illegal property damage and assault goes too far

This Askme comment advocating illegal property damage and assault, needs to be deleted and the commenter, one Meatbomb, should probably get a time out. Normally I would just flag and move on, but it's hard enough as it is to make helpful posts in legal threads. I really don't want to be in the same thread along with such nonsense, even if it's only there for a few hours before deletion.

Are these posts deleted or not?

55893 and 55894 appear to be deleted (and for good reason) in that they do not appear on the main MetaFilter page, but they do not contain a deletion message and are still open to comments. Perhaps it's a bug induced by the daylight savings switchover that just occurred a couple hours ago? Or maybe the threads decided to go as zombies this year...

Could we outlaw cryptic posts & headlines?

I posted this double in large part because the headline for this post from a few days before was so cryptic that it passed under my radar. I'm aware that there can be no official policy outlawing cryptic posts (I'm not arguing for a strict policy, either), but such doubles are bound to occur when the front pages are filled with non-descriptive links. Judging by this and other comments in my thread, I'm not alone in wishing that folks would provide a bit more info with their FPPs. At the least, it could save wasted time on the part of posters and readers alike. Wondering what the wider MeFi community thinks about this.

Callout of a user's antics in imminently deleted double

Shouldn't Matt and Jess be the ones who decide which posts are deleted?

This AskMe is Meta, Ergo...

If anything belongs in metatalk, a post flaming Metafilter users' spelling and grammar sure does. How much more "about Metafilter" can you get than "I am baffled as to why this is so frequent on a site such as AskMeFi"?

Self Link on the Blue

55335 on the blue is a self-link (I'm deliberately not linking to it), anyone know how to contact a mod? Are they asleep? It's especially irritating because it's a self-link to a crap site about "marketing and making money on the web". Also, how about a feature that allows a user to self-revoke posts for a certain amount of time (like 10 minutes) if they realize or learn it was a bad idea.

Please stop bashing Texas

And fuck the Texas bashers most of all.
Bunch of ignorant bigots

If you're making a post about Texas you should reconsider, as many recent threads have ended in shouting matches that do nothing good for the site or the community. If you do insist on posting about those subjects, make sure it's actually something of major importance or at the very least interesting, and not just another news blip about a teacher being fired for taking their students to a museum.

Possible self-linker? Turns out no.

Is this setting off anybody else's self-link-dar? 8 comments to the 'Filter and one answer to AskMetafilter, no profile information, and she favorites her own not-particularly-interesting post?

This is a fine example of a decent question and good responses made much less satisfying because they are interspersed with responses from assholes who are just posting to see their names.

Kidnapped girl post is not a good Metafilter FPP

I don't want this to be a callout, but I'm wondering if the language in this post is appropriate for an FPP. It reads a bit like an email forward.

Civilization Vs. The Middle Ages

Civilisation Vs. The Middle Ages. This has got to be a self link. A single link to a 'framing' post on a blog with two posts and a miss-spelled title (and you know it's bad if I notice something being misspelled), all by someone who posted a handful of comments from over a year ago wherein he called for the execution of both Hugo Chavez and Cindy Sheehan.

Why was my post deleted?

I stand (humbly) deleted. Of course, first I went to FAQs. Closest conceivable reason for deletion was - "axegrindfilter - you posted on a hot-button topic that you frequently post about and/or used heavy-handed editorializing language." Still, I don't think my post fit this bill, exactly: no "frequently post about" or "heavy-handed editorializing" to be found, far as I can tell. Was it simply linking to a site about atheism, period? Or to a site containing Jesus' quotations? I'm really curious about this. And hats off to LarryC for being right. I mean that. BTW, I'd link to the post in question, but it seems to have disappeared without a trace. Or maybe I just don't know how to find it?

Unregistered User callout

You know, it would be nice if Unregistered User could exercise some restraint, and stop droppping screeds about the Iraq war and the Bush administration into every single thread. I don't necessarily have a problem with said ranting in the overtly political threads, although I personally don't like the style, but, come on, already.

q.v. And q.v. And q.v. If this isn't a case of Get Your Own Blog, I don't know what is.

Sockpuppet "The Ghost Of Ken Lay" Found By Some To Be Unfunny

Funny once, hell yes. Funny twice, sure. Still funny some 60 odd times later? Ummm.

Is there even the least bit of humor left in the ghost of Ken Lay's shtick? I'd argue that even the best jokes can grow first stale, then tiresome, then positively annoying if overused. Think of all the characters that SNL has beaten to death over the years through overuse. Ghost, you're becoming the Church Lady. (I'd have taken this to email but none is listed in the profile. And if I am being a jackass, and everyone else is still holding their sides in laughter each time the Ghost speaks, then I humbly apologize and await chastisement.)

Hey Matt, you mention here that Steve@ had been (unfairly, in your opinion) banned, and that you were lifting the ban. But I ran into him over on the IRC channel, and he claims to still be locked out. He promised to admit to his role in helping steal Ohio in 2004 and swore to never do it again if I posted this.

Holocaust Denial Callout

In a handful of comments, kjc managed to casually explain us that Anne Frank's diary is a postwar forgery and Elie Wiesel (whom he calls "Weasel") is a liar. The user seems to have a problem with the Jews, you know, the "indifferent" ..."tribe" that the first time around didn't accept Jesus as the Savior and won't accept him when he comes back, the ones who "holocausted" "tens of millions of Russians" and, why not, there's time to enlighten us on the Jewish Bankers who did many bad things using "the Rothschilds International Crime Syndicate". Now, none of my friends belong to the Klan or to neonazi groups so in a way I might be guilty of discriminating against nazis, but really, revisionist lies and antisemitism are hardly part of that elusive Best of the Web (especially when they're stink bombs planted in great FPP's like madamjujujive's). Also, keep in mind that around here people get banned for saying "fuck you" to other users or for making vitriolic fun of the overweight and their eating habits, so speech seems to have some limits here already after all. More inside.

Policy on single link product FPPs

This is a bad post. I don't dislike single FPPs, but a single link that points to a single product for sale on the internet, with no extra information or interesting stuff...is not in any way showing the best of the internet. There are hundreds of these for sale from all sorts of companies, and they've been around for a long, long time.

To top it all off, I question that and my post (containing one word: "Spamfilter?") was apparently removed. I can deal with that, but the issue at heart still exists.
