Edit posts pony
just wondering.... any way we could get a way to edit our own posts? ... i know there is a preview , but hey, mistakes happen
Does a link being posted elsewhere really mean it's bad for MetaFilter?
Memepool is nothing like Slashdot. I don't read memepool. I am glad that I did not miss this post because of my surfing habits. MetaFilter can't make my experience better by expecting me to read another web site, can it?
Double your fun
it seems an awful lot of us regulars click-through to double posts, just to see how they will be handled. it's interesting, because a double post creates a whole new dynamic. we don't want thread-related discussion going on over there, but we apparently enjoy and even participate in the double post related discussion. do we need a name for this phenomenon, or at least a sniglet? other thoughts?
Matt thinks there are too many posts
yikes, Matt. what do you mean MetaFilter's filling up (note on the front page at the top right)?
To Do list: disable ability to submit blank posts at thread starters

Posting errors lead to bad browsing experience
This post reminded me of a problem that I've been seeing a few times lately, people writing their links with target="_new" or some bastardized variation thereof. In our MeFi prefs we can turn window launching on and off, but some people feel the need to dictate this on their own terms, turning it into a crapshoot for the readers. Sorry if this seems petty, but it bothered me because the window kept launching really small each time. :)
Is MetaFilter the right place to promote a personal political agenda?
Is MetaFilter the right place to promote a personal political agenda? I don't want to name any names, but I've noticed several highly charged issues being brought up repeatedly by the same people. It's not that these threads focus on the same topic - it's that they all approach the subject with the same slant on the story. It seems to me (and maybe it's just me) that the people posting these articles are trying to advance their own political goals. Is this appropriate?
Tired of Ralph Nader posts
Now I would never, never try to impose my own ideas about what should or should not be posted on MeFi, but for the last three weeks I've been wishing I could go somewhere and set some field that said "Don't show me any thread whose parent includes either the words Ralph or Nader". Oh, how I wish I had that.
In the nine months I've been an active participant, I've never wanted such a thing before now. Well, only two more weeks and then it will all die down. I guess I can last that long. But it's been a long time since I've seen such an appalling waste of bits. grumble grumble

the option to be notified
Matt -
One thing that would be cool(and i thoughtyou had mentioned before) is the option to be notified when someone has posted to a thread that you had already posted in.
Examp: I posted a comment under the 'Portman poses' thread. User cjd posts a comment in the same thread.
Based on my preferences it shoots me an email notifiying me that the thread has been updated.
we've got this working with the evolt code pretty easily. if you want the code, lemme know.
thanks man :)

MeFi post as callout
I think starting a new front-page thread just to call another user out is going too far, especially when said user explicitly asks to take it to e-mail.
Recently there have been several self-promoting posts, or posts that are for discussion (may2000)
Matt (and everyone)--
Recently there have been several self-promoting posts, or posts that are simply for discussion. I know the problem is getting people to come to Metatalk, but wouldn't this be a better place to put that kind of thing? And while I don't want to volunteer Matt for extra work, maybe a good start would be to start moving those sorts of things here with a note on the front page saying you'd done it.
Just a thought, mind you.

Line spacing
I have noticed, in the last coulple of days, that the *second* and following comments on a story have a tighter line spacing than the story itself and the first comment...
My first post looks bad
Ok, I've posted my first original link.
And I discovered that the entry parser for new posts works almost, but not entirely, unlike the parser for followups. Blank lines don't automatically turn into
tags, I need a
in my sig that I don't need on followups, and if I *do* use a
, the nice indented formatting blows all to hell.
Um, "what the hell"? :-)
Cheers,

Thoughts on a new thread-tracking feature?
Oooh, new feature idea brought to my attention by Bryan Boyer: Letting users track threads of their choosing. So you come in, see some long thread about how gas costs too much and you want to track just that thread. You'd click some link, and I'm thinking that the top of the page should say "1 new link and 4 new comments since your last visit, 3 new comments in the 4 threads you are tracking" and I suppose hyperlink to just those threads. I can display it any old way, would that be the most helpful, or should there be a new page with just your favorite threads (a "MyMetaFilter")? Would *you* use something like this? I know I would...
