I know I've come across many good answers, comments, posts and questions about adult diagnoses of ADHD. Do you have any in your memory banks or favorited, followed or flagged you could share with me?
Am I the only person who keeps accidentally almost flagging posts instead of favoriting them? [more inside]
I am trying to cut social-media-style dopamine hits out of my life as much as I can, and I have noticed myself checking in more than I'd prefer on my "Favorited by Others" count, and clicking through to see what comments I've made that are getting lots of favorites. I'd rather not do this, but it's a longstanding habit at this point, and it's been surprisingly difficult to kick it. Would it be possible to add a preference to hide the count and link? [more inside]
Y'know what's so cool about this place? When a comment of yours gets its very first Favorite...ten years after you made the comment. That's all. Carry on.
Deleted posts can be flagged but not favorited. Shouldn't it be the other way around? [more inside]
Shoutout to East Manitoba Regional Junior Kabaddi Champion '94 on the collection of his 100,000ᵗʰ favorite! Here’s to many more years of low-hanging snark! ❤️
When I'm using a mobile device, I'd love a better way to favorite (or flag) items, so that I can engage with MetaFilter more. The goal here would be increased usability, accessibility, engagement and enjoyment. [more inside]
What makes you favorite a post/why? Favorite a comment? Is there a difference? Do you use your favorites collection for anything? Do you have a method of curating them? Do you ever prune them? How often do you go back through them? Are you a stingy or generous favorite-bestower? Why?
I swear this isn't a humblebrag. I'm perplexed. [more inside]
Maybe this is a known problem but I just stumbled across it. I was on this page https://ask.metafilter.com/travel-transportation/hong-kong and tried to favorite the first result by clicking the little plus symbol (+). Nothing happens. I was able to favorite it by going into the post and clicking there. Firefox 56 (ha) on Ubuntu Linux, accepting cookies. Can someone confirm? You can unfavorite if it works.
As a Brit I find the recent US political threads compelling but it is difficult to keep up with the volume of posts. Is there a way to filter such threads by the amount of favorites each post has? Or is there another good way to skim the best of such high volume threads without it being a full time job?
- Go to music.metafilter.com
- Check sidebars
- One will list "Most Favorited Tracks from your contacts"
- Some of these songs won't be Jingle Rock Bell (but luckily some will)
- Punch 'Em In The Dick!
- (Er, by which I mean "please comment, favourite or just enjoy listening to the best of MeFi Music")
- Cheers MetaFilter!
Is there an easy way to see, for each of my contacts or for an individual user who is a contact, things that _I_ have favorited? This would be a quick way for me to remind myself why I have marked that user as a contact. [more inside]
On our user pages, the two numbers tracked for favorites count different things. The first one is a count of how many individual comments I have favorited. The second number is a count of how many times everyone has favorited a comment of mine. The description of that second number, "Favorited by others," is sort of misleading, I think, because it doesn't count individual comments the way the first number does. [more inside]
After a long day of reading the site on mobile while waiting for stuff, the request here to add a "Favorite this post" link to the "Who favorited this post" page (the one that comes up when you click the link with the number of people who favorited the post) made a lot of sense to me. [more inside]
I've written a userscript to sort the page comments by favorites. It's only been tested on the latest Firefox with Greasemonkey but it should work on Chrome with Tampermonkey. You can grab / install the script here.
Is there a Firefox extension or Greasemonkey script that will hide comments with fewer than X favorites in a thread? I want to see the best of the political threads without having to wade through thousands of comments.
Dear favorites, today you are ten. Despite mathowie telling us to "Think of favorites as an internal bookmark system" we've decided you mean whatever we want you to mean. Happy birthday. [as promised] [more inside]
Would it be possible to get the ability to filter MetaTalk posts by tags and create "My Talk"? [more inside]
Today is the first day of the United State's National Poetry Month. In celebration, I was hoping my fellow metafites would share their favorite poems/lines of poetry.
Can we have an "add to activity" button on the front pages like we do for favorites? If so, what should it look like? Discuss.
I think voting should be removed from MeFi Projects. What do others think? [more inside]
The Windows 10 upgrade blew away my greasemonkey collection and I am struggling to find the script that showed metafilter threads with comments filtered by 5 or more comments. It had a tab interface at the top of the comments with something like "5 or more" and "show all comments". Anybody have a working link/copy of this script? I miss it dearly.
We have a tab to sort Popular Posts, based on favorites. I would find use in a Most & Least Active tab (each side of that for different reasons), based on number of comments.
I'm not a tech person so this may be a dumb question, but why don't favorites that I add stay displayed on the front page? [more inside]
Would it be possible to add to favorites straight from the Popular Posts and Popular Questions pages? Just a + sign like on the main page? [more inside]
Might it be possible to have the tooltip that shows up when you mouseover the "x users marked as favorite" display the usernames that have favorited it up to that point. I expect you'd have to limit the total number to like...the first ten, or something? I guess it's a UX behavior that I expected but didn't see.
Hello! I have clumsy fingers and clicking the plus sign to "add to favorites" often leads me to the /favorited page for that post, because I miss. It'd be neat if the option to "Add to favorites" appeared on that page, so that I wouldn't have to go back to the original post/moment and try again (often missing again). Thanks for your consideration.
I've marked a ton of threads on the blue and green as favorites for later reference (recipe questions, fitness recs, etc). When I want to find something later I either do a Google boolean search (ugh) or poke around and scroll through my favorites list, but both these options are a drag. [more inside]
There are currently some links on the front page menus that seem a bit redundant. [more inside]
In mobile styles, can a link to "add a favourite" be included at the top of the page that comes when you accidentally click on the comment count in mobile, rather than the + sign? I keep going to the list of people who have favourited a comment, then having to go back and zoom in to correctly hit the +, and my stubby fingers have put me in a loop at times. Possibly this is just me, but a line at the top of the (http://www.metafilter.com/favorited) page that I could reliably hit would be very nice.
Favorites! Where do I start? Some people don't get enough. Some people get too many. The system we have now is broken. We need a more orthodox approach to give out faves. They have to MEAN SOMETHING, people! [more inside]

There is currently a practice across Metafilter, especially within Metafilter proper (the Blue) and Metatalk (the Grey) of making personal attacks against other users that I feel undermines the community aspect of the site. The attacks I am concerned with most often take the form of ugly insinuations that the user is deliberately derailing, trolling or using common tactics which are allegedly known to be popular with (in alphabetical order, thee could be more, these are all I could think of when I set about making this thread):
- Redditors (specifically, usually The Red Pill subreddit)
I'd like to export the "wisdom of Metafilter" that I've favorited over the years, but I'd like to do it with the least amount of effort and risk of error. The two methods I've found so far will require quite a bit of copy/pasting. Am I missing a special killer-combo-move, or will I just have to roll up my sleeves and get my ctrl+ C/P fingers warmed up? [more inside]
I'd like to be able to add favorite posts easily and quickly when I consult a summary page using the tag feature. [more inside]
I'm seeing a bug while favoriting comments that've been loaded through the "recent comments" auto-loader. If I add an auto-loaded comment to my favorites, all the loaded comments vanish once the favorite's been added. It seems to occur while the site's loading up the new favorite count — I get a brief "adding favorite" dialogue, and then, boop, all gone! This is occurring on Google Chrome on OS X; I'm not sure if anybody else is getting this, but I've tried this on multiple subsites and it's a recurring and consistent bug.
Pony request: A checkbox in our profile settings to "Alert me via MeMail when a question I've marked as a favorite is marked resolved." [more inside]
It's week three of our MeFites Choice contest, where we showcase the best posts according to you, the reader, via the use of fantastic flagged posts. [more inside]
Once upon a time someone posted a speech (or maybe just a link thereto) in which George Washington was saying "Ask not what your country can do for you..." to a bunch of veterans who were leaning on a cash strapped Federal government. I distinctly remember it getting tons of favorites and I even flagged it as a fantastic comment. [more inside]
Researchers during the five-month study randomly altered the ratings of 101,000 comments. Those manipulated to be more positive were about one-third more likely than unaltered comments to receive a positive rating from the next viewer, and 30 percent more likely to achieve a high favorable rating.http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-08-08/online-likes-herd-other-to-similar-views-study-finds.html
Due to a couple of recent MetaFilter user requests to return it to working status, I have updated the popular (6K+ downloads on userscripts, more elsewhere) HowlsOfOutrage Greasemonkey script. The script displays a popup window of all users favoriting a particular MetaFilter post or comment on mouse hover over the favorites text. In addition, I've updated the Chrome extension, and added a new Safari extension. Testing was successful, but not exhaustive. All completely free as always, natch. [more inside]
In the front page "contact activity" section, if one of your contacts has a best answer, it specifies the AskMetafilter question where the answer appears. I wonder, can something similar be done for "has a comment with X favorites," instead of just saying "in AskMetafilter" or "in MetaFilter"?
100/day just isn't enough anymore, given the increasing volume of quality discussion on this site. Could the daily favorites limit please be raised???
We can find "popular favorites" going back a day, week, month, all-time. And we can find all of the posts with a given tag. Is there a way to combine these two features, to find, say, "Posts with the tag [books] that have been most favorited?"
If favorites are bookmarks, and I'm not saying that they are, it would be nice to be able to search them by username. [more inside]
A request: I sure would love to see the little "add to favorites" plus sign everywhere posts are displayed, specifically on the popular favorites pages. [more inside]
My list of such is short and lame this year, but it would be lamer if we didn't have one of these threads for 2012. Show us your MeFi buried treasure! [more inside]
