Why doesn't MetaTalk have a "Popular Favorites Of All Time?" In MetaFilter and AskMe, when you click on the "Popular Favorites" tab, you can choose between 24 Hours, 7 Days, 30 days, and All Time. Why is the choice in the Grey only for 48 hours?
It's nice that we have popular favorites for ask.me for the last 7 days and the last thirty days, but can we get all time favorites as well? (also links to the 7 days and 30 days on the popular questions page.)
Is there a way to reset favorites? [more inside]
I really like the last 7 days highly favourited list - I get to see things I would have otherwise missed. Is there some way I can see the most favourited posts of all time (eg mushroom one. I've read the FAQ - It's a little difficult searching successfully on "favorite/s".) in both Metafilter and AskMe?
A few little functionality improvements with Recent Activity and some favorites action. [more inside]
Could the favorites counts and [+/-] links be added to the "posted by" lines on Recent Activity, please?
Are favorites meant to be bookmarks or endorsements? [more inside]
Favoriting users? [more inside]
I'd really love to see RSS feeds for a user's favorited posts and comments. [more inside]
Mini-pony: When I favorite a thread, I want it to show up in my Recent Activity. [more inside]
I think there may be a bug in the "# favorites" accounting code. [more inside]
Is there anyway to determine the number of times tehloki has favourited me? [more inside]
"You hit your favorite limit for the day." When did this happen? What's the limit? Anybody got anything to do away with the shakes?
Why can't one favorite deleted threads? There are a few methods of viewing deleted threads, and one can work around the issue by favoriting a comment in a deleted thread; however I think it would be nifty if we could favorite a deleted thread itself.
Teeny-tiny pony request: Adding favorites is all ajax-y and lovely. Removing favorites - from your favorites page - causes a refresh and a bump up to the top of the page. I can has ajax pls?
There is a single page that globally ranks comments across the three sites by number of times favorited, spanning the past seven days (link). There are individual pages that rank posts for each subsite by number of times favorited in the past day (AskMefi, Mefi, and Meta). Do there exist individual pages for each subsite that rank the comments most favorited within the past 24 hours — or even a single page that spans all three but ranks the most favorited comments in the last 24 hours?
The divabats are multiplying in my favorites!
I know MetaFilter isn't a popularity contest, but just in case, I thought it'd be interesting to gather some stats on what percentage of certain users' posts/comments are favorited. Here is a completely unscientific sample.
The Favorited By Others tally on the user profile page seems to include comments which were later deleted, and are not viewable through the hyperlink. One would expect direct correspondence between number and linked page.
Two things (and yes, I'm cheating). First, I'm wondering if there's any mechanism out there that allows us to look at a "best of" for Mefi and Ask Mefi. Popular favorites in the last 24 hours immediately leaps to mind, and would indeed be ideal, but I'm looking for an RSS feed, and Mathowie says that's a no-go in past MeTas. (Any chance we could change your mind, Matt?) I hear there used to be a third-party blog that did it, but I don't think that's around any longer. Perhaps the sidebar feed ... at least for Mefi? Still, the sidebar is like a "best of best of Mefi." Second, and on an entirely different subject, when the MeFi comment dividers Greasemonkey script is used, it throws off permalinks to comments ... if you click on a comment permalink somewhere else (i.e. a Recent Activity page or a Favorites page), you're at first dropped at the anchor for the comment on the page, but when the comment dividers are applied, it bounces away. Anyone have an idea how that effect might be avoided? I'm more of a idiot-splicer than a programmer, so I really have no idea how to change that script to avoid the effect. Thanks in advance for any advice or answers on both questions ...
I'm a little confused about the etiquette concerning favorites. I've had a few people tell me I favorite far too many comments, but I don't really see the harm in it. Is this something I should be worried about? Is there a compelling reason to curtail my willy-nilly favoriting?
This page appears to be borked. (Firefox 126.96.36.199 / OSX 10.4.9. Also in Safari 2.0.4)
Possible to see members whose comments/FPPs you have favorited, who have themselves favorited one or more of your comments/FPPs?
Is there a better way to follow activity in favorited posts?
Ooh, I'm so excited! My very first pedantic MetaTalk post! The text of the link on the user favorites page says "You can also view a list of the most popular in the last 24 hours," but the actual Popular Favorites page lists the "most favorited posts in the past 7 days." Do I get a prize?!?
Favoriting on the blue has stopped working with Opera on Windows XP. Works fine on all other sites.
On the blue, it's a tad odd that "Popular" and "Popular Favorites" are different. I suggest they be combined into a single page which has both FPPs and comments, and also has the (7 days, 30 days, all time) option from the second link.
Fantasy feature: hover over "x users marked this as a favorite" and see the names of the people who did the favorite marking. Whaddaya think?
I always click on "N favorites" rather than "+" to add a favorite, because I'm tripped up by the two links in one set of brackets. Would it be obscenely contentious to request that we alter this: [2 favorites +] [!] to this: [2 favorites] [+] [!] Thanks!
Can we please have a My Favorites tab in My Activity? One that would work just like the My Comments tab in showing the last few comments on each thread, but do this for our favorite threads rather than threads we commented in?
Hot damn, Matt! I love the new "Favorited by others" page! Beautiful work, sir.
There's a new user history interface, at http://www.metafilter.com/activity/(your user ID). It's linked on user pages now and provides a consistent view of your posts, comments, and things favorited by others (including a new most popular favorited list from your history). Three cheers for pb for building it, it should be much easier to use and more consistent than the previous way we did things.
Pony request: Can we have temporary favorites? There are often threads I want to follow, but not make favorites, but if I make them a favorite, then I have delete from my favorites later on. This gets to be a chore when there's a lot of interesting stuff. Yes, there's the My comments page, but I find it useless, as it only tracks the last ten comments made to the thread, as opposed to only new comments since I last read the thread and it tracks threads I've commented on. With temporary favorites, I could say "watch this thread for x amount of time". Then if there was a page of just these temp favorites, it make it easy to keep tabs on threads that interest me. Or basically, just a better way of keeping tabs on threads the user finds interesting without having to make them favorites, which seem like a more permanent marker.
I love the all time favorites page. Any chance we could have more than 20?
MeFi has got all kinds of RSS feeds, but there isn't an official feed of the popular favorites page, which would be a great way to filter out the site to the most popular posts.
Why is this thread from December 2004 near the top of AskMe's "Popular Favorites"?
There are two favorites by the same user on one post on the Virginia Tech shootings thread. Similar can be seen here, as mentioned here. Also reported in a MeTa thread on another favorite bug.
why does my contributions from quonsar saved as favorites by others page include the Duclod man post? that was posted by Mo Nickels, not me.
Ridiculously long Headline/Titles result in ridiculously long "add to favorites" pop-ups. See here.
Observation... Preference for florence henderson? While I truly enjoy florence's entries as much as you all do, I honestly don't see them as being better than SO many other comments, yet she seems to always get a fav vote or four. Is there something I should know here? Sorry, flo, not meaning to bust, I luvs ya too. Just asking though?
When I click on 'popular favorites', the number of favorites for each post is consistently wrong. I think the number I see corresponds with how many favorites the post had when I last clicked it. This question feels familiar to me - I think this has been discussed here before - but as I mentioned earlier, I have a difficult time searching for stuff here. If you want to point me to a previous discussion on this, feel free. Thanks.
Can we please have a way to sort savedfavorites by "Most recently favorited?" Either as a default, or an option? As time passes, more and more active users have multiple pages of comments that have been favorited and it can be difficult to track down what's going on when old threads are suddenly rediscovered.
In my favorite posts/favorite comments page, the links inside my favorites posts are retained, while the links inside my favorite comments are stripped out and rendered as plain text.
This anonymous question showed up on my list of "posts by divabat saved as favourites". I didn't write that post.
Just curious about something... when someone answers an AskMe question and it gets marked as one of the best answers, shouldn't that also count for them as being favorited by someone? Or... no?
I've noticed it's now possible to remove favorites directly at the post/comment. Very cool! Thanks mathowie!
Second page of favorites does not list favorites.
There's a flag for "fantastic post". Is that used for anything, or have favorites replaced it?
I found it at the bottom of a locked filing cabinet, in a dis-used lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the leopard.'
Removing a favorite is hard! [moron inside]
Lately when I try to remove a favourite, I get this error message: URL is malformed: can't remove as a favorite. This has only been going for a couple weeks, I think. Perhaps it could be fixed.
