When will
dios have the decency to go to the next thread, or to MetaTalk, rather than derailing a thread with attacks on the poster? Plenty of people like y2karl's posts, plenty don't; we all know that already. So what, exactly, other than forestalling any real discussion of the issues raised in the post, does dios think he adds by his knee-jerk and immediate (2nd comment in the post) carping and cavilling?

All the mefi sites display funny on my new Pocket PC. The coloured background (blue/grey/etc) appears in chunks so as I scroll down the background scrolls past the end of blue and shows white. Irritatingly, the text is white, so I have to highlight it to see what it says. Scroll down some more and the colour comes back then goes, then comes back, you get the picture? Anyway, its IE built into Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition running on a new Dell Axim x50v.
I'm going to look such a fool when someone points me to the "Make Metafilter display Ok" button.

In the

WTF? I just didn’t understand what the discussion was about. After logging onto another computer, I finally see why. I wasn’t seeing the punch line link. In both Firefox and IE, I don’t see the hyperlinked text. This is not a problem in any other FFP. Weird; what gives?

When previewing a question on AskMe, under the "Your Question" field is the description for the "Extended Explanation" field:
This will be the "more inside" area where you explain additional details about the question if necessary. If you use this space, don't write "more inside" to the question area, it will automatically be added for you.

I've swapped in the new mefi homepage showing the last 50 posts for everyone, including non-members. You can use the links at the bottom to page through more results. Gone is the feature that let you customize how many days to show on the front page, but on the positive side, this should make for a much better use of server resources.

Lately, there has been some discrepancy between number of "new questions/comments posted" in MetaTalk, and what I'm seeing highlighted on the page as new questions or comments. Until now, it hasn't been
such a big difference to really annoy me, but at the moment, I see "There has been 1 new question and 12 comments posted since your last visit", but only two threads are highlighted as having new comments (one each).

Anybody willing and able to create a dashboard widget that spits out the past 10 threads in MeFi, or favorites that someone might want to track, or threads with the latest comments, etc? I just upgraded to Tiger and love the widgets; unfortunately, not enough of them are seriously practical for me. This, on the other hand, would be very useful.

New Feature: you can page through MetaTalk with the links at the bottom of the page, and the new comment counts should continue to function in older pages. Much simpler and easier than digging through archives and if this works as expected for most everyone, it will also be applied at Ask MeFi and MeFi

Am I the only one who comments in dead threads? I'm not an insecure troll, but they seem to die so quickly, and it's a little frustrating, especially if you're responding to someone/something and they've moved on. E-mailing the person to let them know you've responded to them is of course one answer, but seems silly if it's not
that important, and is often not an option anyway. Are there any alternatives I'm not considering, outside of getting over it? I feel like there could be a pony here, but can't think of what it could possibly be...

View all comments/posts by this user. Some time in the past six months (possibly very recently), the "View all comments/posts" interface has changed. Instead of being an enormous page, referencing every post made (sometimes into the thousands), the big list is now split up into batches of 50. [This is good] - it's a no-brainer way of reducing server load.
That said, could there be a way of viewing every post on one page?

Disclaimer: This is something you need a TV to know about...
Has anybody but me seen a commercial for Volkswagen (apparently SoCal VW Dealers, but maybe showing in other regions) in which the salesman outside the car is pointing out all the comfort features to the wife in the driver's seat while the husband on the passenger's side is just using the power seat to go up and down and up and down? You'd know it if you saw it, because the actor playing the husband is (to me) a dead ringer for Matt Haughey (including the glasses). I can't find a video of that commercial online anywhere, but I wonder if some actor is going to make a career out of impersonating Our #1... (Or is the resemblence just another sign of my worsening dementia?) Dammit, they are the same glasses!!!

In my experience, the exact phrase search for AskMe usually times out when searching through "answers only" or "questions and answers." I assume this is simply due to the size of the data. I'd hate to see this functionality disappear, as Google is pretty useless for AskMe. If a dedicated MetaFilter Search Cluster is not an option, perhaps we could have a way to specify date ranges?
