"Thanks" is not a question
ThanksAskMe: Can we just assume we're all thankful for the bounties of AskMe, without posting there to that effect?
Newsfilter callout
The Final Nail. I haven't been reading as much lately---I'm am hoping that the election will be over soon so the excuses are gone for shitty posts. But, there it is.
A double post. It is a Newsfilter post, that isn't even news since it has been talked about for over a decade. It is clearly does not meet the stated standard. It is a classic troll: toss a turd that you *know* will incite much argument, for no apparent reason.. It is a single-link to a newspaper. It is a blatant amount of negative campaigning even while we try to encourage voting with a new link at the top of the page.
For the love of god, it is a self-Godwinizing post!
Matt posted the very next post, 30 minutes later, so there is no chance he didn't see the post.
Yet... it remains there on the blue.
It is the piece de resitance of the the shithole Matt has willingly allowed MeFi to become. I would say amazing if it wasn't so sad....

filmgeek seems to want to do the right thing here, but he needs admin hope to do it.
Link switched to goatse
The link in this girlfriend/Powerpoint post has been switched to Goatse. Just a warning for those of you that may have subsequently posted it to your own blogs, or mailed it to your boss or something.
It was SO not a double!
I posted this entry that was deleted because "previously." The linked entry did not contain the same link and was marginally about the same subject. What gives?
Deletion Reasons
I know this has been requested before, and I understand that it may be an extremely time-consuming feature, but please, if possible Matt, could you give us reasons for deletion in MeTa and AskMeFi? I really think that it helped in MeFi and will probably help prevent repeated mistakes made in AskMeFi.
Trolling AskMe
Linking to someone's MT install? What?
really, matt, not all that difficult a problem to fix. especially when the first comment gave you a corrected link, and with the beginnings of a good debate already in place. tsk.
I did not stumble; I came with purpose!
You've stumbled upon a non-existent post, or one that was deleted for various reasons.
Matt, didn't deleted threads used to be removed from the index?
Matt, didn't deleted threads used to be removed from the index?
I ask because a certain recent thread which got some attention webwide remains on the www.metafiler.com page.
I used to go to lofi.mefi only to see the deletions...now I don't need to? When did that change?

Some users feel that this needs to go, and I agree with them.
We can discuss politics in AskMe, but we cannot joke about it
small and unobtrusive indicator for deleted comments
This has been discussed before, but I think there needs to be a small and unobtrusive indicator for deleted comments, those removed from threads by the hand of God. Today's example in theMr. Mixed Up Bigotry thread. [More Inside]
FPP for skeezy malware marketing
Should there really be a FPP that's really a rather thinly veiled marketing attempt for some rather skeezy malware?

Asterisk for Deleted Threads
OK, it's been suggested before in passing, but I can't find an actual feature-request thread, so I'm going ahead and asking: When comments are deleted from a thread, can there be some residue, maybe an asterisk, maybe an icon, indicating that there used to be a comment at that point, so later non-deleted references to said comment aren't so confusing?
Why was the WWV post deleted?
Why was the WWV post deleted? Not clever enough? Isn't the ";)" enough to denote it's some type of joke?
Thread Kill
This thread probably needs to be buried.
Is the graveyard dead?
Is the graveyard dead? I tried this link and got this cryptic error about the link being refused by "urlscan".
What got nuked?
Invoking the Lazyfilter again...How cool would it be to set up the AntiMetafilter somewhere? A blog that consists solely of the posts that got deleted from the big blue, complete with mathowie's reason for nuking.
Or am I the only one who idly runs my mouse over the links on the front page, seeking out the missing post numbers so I can see who got shot down for what?
If I am, I'm OK with that, just a little weirded out by myself.

Posts that just are links to Google searches
Self-link-by-stealth? And what's with all the recent (appropriately deleted) posts that are just links to Google searches?
search didn't find double; what's up?
So, I did a search here on "search functionality" and found an indepth thread about search terms. What is the deal with searching for an href? Is that not the most important thing? My post a few moments ago was a double. Though no link was provided I trust that it was indeed posted before.

Why was my post deleted?
Can I ask why my post about Pat Robertson having prostate cancer was pulled?
How could I have made my post better?
I realize that the 'ethnic cleansing' was inappropriate as it was. I'm wondering though if anyone who saw it for the five minutes or so it was up could give any suggestions as to how to post it differently, other than a disclaimer on the front page rather than inside. Or was it inappropriate altogether, warning or not? (Yes, I've read posting guidelines.)
Fair is fair.
Preventing reposts of deleted stories
This dangling baby . . . it vibrates? Every time Matt kills a "Jacko's dangling baby" post, another pops up to replace it. We've talked about this before, but I think the (general) question needs to be raised: What, if anything, can be done to prevent reposting deleted stories? It's been pointed out that posters may not know that they're posting something that has been deleted before because, um, it's been deleted before! (And with wacky news like this, there can be any number of sources for the same story, sorry.) Short of deleting the story every time it pops up, is there a better solution?
Informative, but...
Welcome to "Me"tafilter.
Why was this deleted?
Uh... why was this deleted? I can only assume, thanks to Grangousier's sarcastic comment, that it was deemed to be a dupe of this, but if that is the reason, someone needs to look again. While the original post was commenting on the removal of Ellen's ad from Apple's site (it's since come back), there have been no other posts about Ellen's ad and Ellen herself.
Apart from anything else, ripping articles from the front page without informing the poster and telling them why is not a good way to encourage new users to post good links. It's just demoralizing.

Newsy pet-issue post.
Newsy pet-issue post. Goose or Gander?
This is definitely now how we do an update
Something really got your knickers in a knot? Well, then, don't just put it on the front page once. Wait one day and post an update. Note that in this case, the update's new information is a week old and was already posted in the original thread.
Spooky. Senile? Deleted.
Pretty sure it wasn't a senior moment. Rather, I think I just had an Orwellian moment. What happened to the thread at www.metafilter.com/mefi/20692, regarding Kuwaiti opinions? It now says "...a non-existent post, or one that was deleted for various reasons."
Spooky.
Spooky.
Double? Where was the first?
This was apparently a double-post, but I can't find the original post anywhere on the FP. Was it deleted, or is there just a problem with my browser?
Why was my post deleted?
I'm confused. I posted what I thought was a typical interesting link, but I guess it didn't pass muster, since it was dumped. What gives?
(I linked to it from my K5 diary. Now I have cleanup there to do.)

MeFi post deletion query
noticed a link I posted yesterday was removed? why? It would be nice for any moderator or higher up to e mail someone telling why the link was removed
Those Harry Potter Threads.
Those Harry Potter Threads. Reading today's Harry Potter thread (now deleted) some people mentioned that the reason it was getting posted so much was because there is no previous record of it on a search, and that multiple similar posts had been deleted. Okay, repeated posts should be deleted, but why isn't the original one anywhere to be found? It's a bit Farkesque, but still not a bad link, per se.
Why was my thread on the Greek govt outlawing games deleted?
Um...I posted a link a little while ago and now the thread is gone. Did I double-post or something bad and didn't know it? It was about the Greek government outlawing electronic games...
Why was my post deleted?
I've just posted a story to the front page, and for whatever reason, it appears to have been deleted. Now, that in itself is fine - I can handle the rejection! But I would however like to know *why* it was deleted. Is it not possible to have some form of message left to offending user, informing them of why their post has been deleted?
Given the chance to respond...
Why was this deleted before it even got off the ground [2 posts]?
Glen Reynolds' Instapundit links to a Meryl Yourish post countering a comment by our own mediareport. I tend to disagree with MR on the Middle East, but seeing as how MeFi is where he expresses himself, it seems appropriate he should have the opportunity to defend himself here.
(This is not an I/P thread, this is a meta-I/P thread. Be nice.)

I thought that joemaller had a good point giving mediareport - and other MeFites - the chance to respond.

The big fat lie? "The classic [misconception is that] 95 percent of all dieters never lose weight, and 95 percent of those who do will not keep it off. This will be correctly attributed to the University of Pennsylvania psychiatrist Albert Stunkard, but it will go unmentioned that this statement is based on 100 patients who passed through Stunkard's obesity clinic during the Eisenhower administration."

It was a great article, well researched and interesting. I didn't get to read any of the comments that people submitted because I'm getting a "nothing to see here" message when I click on the comments link. What gives? Bingo didn't make up the title...that is the title of the article. I can't see why this topic would be deleted. Any chance that it can be restored? Was this just a mistake or intentional?

a bit of me dies every time a thread is deleted
I'm sure it's an unpopular opinion and I admit it probably has to do with my personal experience of neo-fascist censorship in Portugal, as well as my libertarian views on freedom of expression, but I feel a bit of me dies every time a thread is deleted on MetaFilter. Or perhaps it's just frustration for not being able to read them. Although Matt is as tolerant a person as I know and I've understood the reasons for every deleted thread I was aware of, I truthfully don't think malevolent or stupid posts can't be dealt with by the MetaFilter community such as it is. Why not just leave them be? In time they might just be ignored, as they deserved. But not dignified with deletion. For there is such a thing, IMO.
Why was Arafat photo deleted?
I think it's uncouth that the 'arafat' front page post was deleted. It was a photograph of a moment captured. Like any moment captured. Except it was explosive. Why must a candid photo of Yasser Arafat under siege be purged from Mefi's memory?
I haven't seen any double posts recently
Curious, as this is the only one I I've actually run across. It seems that double-posts have been very rare recently. Or have they just been getting caught that quickly?
thread closed but I NEED to comment!
Okay, so the comments got closed on the teen log generator. But I just couldn't... [more]
After deletion, still waiting 24 hours?
If a post is pulled because it is deemed inappropriate(I assume mine went because the subject matter was too close to one you don't wish discussed) are we still subject to the 24-hour rule? Just wondering.....
Why was my post about someone having sex with a goat deleted?
Why is a post about someone having sex with a goat not worthy of discussion. The story had everything - intrigue, surpise, excitement, passion, shock, and much more. I know why it was delete - because mat thought it was 'sophmoric' to post something like that - well I didn't post it in a sophmoric manner, I posted it because it is a very interesting story. I have never heard of anything like it in my life. It makes me wonder whether you even bother to read past the headline before cracking the sensorship whip.
"poof" unexpected, explanation demanded
What was the problem with the post about the soccer player giving the finger up? I was really surprised to see that one go "poof." It wasn't high art, but it didn't seem like it was out of line.
Deleted but still on front page
This thread still appears on the front page (after several refreshes), but clicking on the comments gives you the standard "Nothing to see here" thread deletion page.
