Pre-ordering is officially open for "I [+] MetaFilter" shirts! Order today, until "Cyber Monday" (Nov. 29th) when we will close up the orders and start printing shirts. They will ship in mid-December and should arrive to US addresses in time for xmas. International orders may take a bit longer but should arrive around the new year or shortly after. (Previous discussion of proposed shirt designs/orders)
Is anyone else having trouble accessing The Blue? Kaspersky is telling me that it's infected with Virus.BAT.Tnse. [more inside]
I call shenanigans on this post about how hating muslims is logical. "American Thinker" is one of the loonier wingnut/Teabagger rags out there. [more inside]
Back in November of 2007 I came across jonson’s fpp about Geoff Manaugh’s blog post on a photographer named Shaun O’Boyle. I really liked the photographs, and sometimes my job allows me to develop a book. So I did. Kind of about that link. I asked Geoff Manaugh to write the intro to the book, and he said yes, and then he surprisingly cited an unrelated Metafilter comment in the essay he submitted. [more inside]
I can't believe what he's trying to pull... [more inside]
What are the sources in the MetaFilter community network where if its not an FPP, doesn't fit into any other category and I don't really feel like framing it as an AskMe, can I vent, chat with friends&Mefites, and deal with something on my mind, in general?
New ads from The Deck will start showing up on front pages tomorrow, but don't worry, you can turn them off. [more inside]
As far as I can tell, there's three factors at play with deleted posts – moderator opinion, initial crowd opinion (comments), and initial crowd opinion (flagging). And I'm kind of seeking to understand how it interplays, [more inside]
I just made my first post to metafilter. [more inside]
Any interest in starting a metafilter Minecraft server? Either creative or (the still very buggy) survival mode?
So I have an article that I want to post, but the article is essentially a question regarding how people read. Abebooks had a blog post about it and the Guardian picked up on this issue as well. Should I post this on MetaFilter or under AskMefi? No matter where I post it, people will offer up their own preferences for how they read a book. As I see it, this post would be more appropriate in the Green, but I'm not certain.
I had a dream about MetaFilter. [more inside]
The inventor of the Comedy Evaluator Pro software has dropped by the thread discussing the Comedy Evaluator Pro to evaluate our evaluations of the Comedy Evaluator Pro.

You'd think, after eleven years, we'd have finally figured out how these people got their cats wedged into their scanners, or why. But anyway, Happy Birthday, MeFi!
I hate to get sidetracked but I find it interesting that there will always be two sides when it comes to this issue of how one should post on this site. Link heavy or light? Get the info out there quickly so discussion can occur, or wait and find as many links as possible and provide more for the posting. We should always be striving for the latter. [more inside]
The guys over at Penny Arcade took on the subject of Blizzard + RealID, and said, "If I thought I could top this comment over at MetaFilter, I would do so. I can't."
How do you explain Metafilter to people who may be unfamiliar with the concept of a "community weblog"? [more inside]
Forgive me if this was asked before (I searched the FAQ), but I see a lot of people asking questions in AskMeFi who have never commented. Why are the guidelines different from MetaFilter (where you have to comment a certain number of times before you post)? I understand that some people are lurkers and we want to be accepting of that, but it seems like a lot of the questions which break the guidelines could be avoided. Maybe I'm just a whiner?
Hello. Thank you. This is my official post hospital, hotel and apartment update. [more inside]
This FPP's typical and relatively successful feminism discussion devolved into a mano a mano between DNye and myself. I admittedly took his bait and engaged; my bad. This led to DNye's epic 3,600 word comment (plus addendum and corrections). I'm trying to disengage in that topic 1 2 as I try to avoid pissing matches these days. He wants to keep on fightin' 1 2 so I'm asking him to bring it here. [more inside]
So ... anything planned for the 11th anniversary? [more inside]
I study popular music, and needless to say I go to school with some pretty amazing musicians and song-writers, many of whom have MySpace profiles and websites with their songs on them. [more inside]
I have some lingering discomfort with the outcome of the epic Russian Girls Possibly Rescued from Trafficking threads, but the initial Metatalk thread is closed up. [more inside]
We need your help on a new events site (sorta gigfilter + meetups + etc)! [more inside]
Cat Scan Shirts are one of the strangest shirts I've seen in some time. I have no idea how these people got their cats wedged into their scanners, or why. TODAY 5/16 ONLY. [more inside]

The Metafilter Kiva Team has been in existence for just less than one year. In that time 190 people have made $19,225 in loans - for grocery stores in Cambodia to rock music outlets in Palestine the effect of your loans are felt around the world in significant ways. Still, it represents just a handful of MeFites: less than two-tenths of one percent of the total members of the site. [more inside]
What's the longest gap we've ever had between MeFi posts? AskMes? MetaTalk posts? [more inside]
Are there any APIs or best practices for programmatic access to MetaFilter? In particular, for things like logging in/out, fetching users' messages, sending messages, making posts and comments, favoriting comments, &c. Ways of fetching content in a more fine-grained way than the RSS feeds would also be nice. [more inside]
I don't know if this is to be celebrated or bemoaned, but a thread closed for self-promotion on Metafilter is now the second most popular link on reddit. [more inside]
A MetaFilter Hug a day keeps teh doctor away. A shout out to MeFi's own Cortex. [more inside]
So, what is an acceptable amount of posting in a metafilter thread you started? [more inside]
The First Virtual Museum of MetaFilter In-Jokes in Second Life is now back, after a few false starts and some land-skipping. (Some lengthy, rather SL-wonkish commentary inside.) [more inside]
This is a question about the phrase "best of the web", as used in relation to Metafilter. I've been coming here for a while, for several years before I signed up, and I never remember seeing "best of the web" used officially to describe the purpose of Metafilter. The phrase "best of the web" appears nowhere in the FAQ. So where does this idea that MeFi is supposed to only be for links that are the "best of the web" come from? Anywhere official, or is it just something people made up over time?
Can limit the main text area so that people are encouraged to put [more inside] rather than so much outside? [more inside]

An update to this thread on Jackie Shane. CBC radio's "Inside the Music" has done a terrific show on Jackie, and the podcast is available here.
I'm killdevil, and I'm a special snowflake. But I need a garment that can communicate my specialness to others. Any idea when the "Special Snowflake" and "Everyone Needs a Hug" t-shirts will be returning to the MeFi store? And/or new designs so exquisite that we'll be helpless not to tear off whatever we're wearing in order to wrap ourselves in 5 of them?
When making a new contact, the following doesn't seem to be very MeFi-centric. Friendship acquaintance friend none Physical I have met this user in the real world. Just a teeny blip on the meta-Meta screen but I know how much y'all like that sort of thing: the guy who's trying to stay sober by drawing a comic a day noticed we were talking about him. Congrats on helping an alcoholic go another day without drink. [more inside]
