Merry Christmas Metafilter,
without prejudice, and with a little extra love and barbeque sauce on the side. It's been a bad year, and you have always been in my corner. I thank about 115,000 people for that. Peace. ts

And I don't mean spirit like vodka, because I've already got it.

The Mefite Library: Books By Mefites
The Mefite Library: Some of you might know that I'm a book editor. I was very excited to see so many books in the holiday shop, but I was also a little sad that mefites who have a hand in creating books in other ways aren't represented. So, I'm starting a page (on the wiki for now) to collect links to books that mefites have written, edited, been anthologized in, or otherwise created. (Have a book of your photography or art? Did all of the research for a book? Art directed or illustrated a book? Please include!) [more inside]
Is my Twitter hacked on Mefi?
Why does the Twitter plug-in on my MeFi profile page feature a spam tweet about acai but when I visit my real twitter feed that spam tweet is nowhere to be found? [more inside]
THEN WHO WAS PHONE? Literally.
Was there ever an explanation/solution to the cell phone stalking mystery? Google only reveals news reports from 2007, and no followup information.
Request For Complaints
Following the recent Complaints Choirs post, I thought it would be a cute idea to sort out our very own Metafilter Complaints Choir. There's a few of us on it now, but it would be great if you contributed as well. [more inside]
The Peanut Gallery
I was just wondering... How many of you guys browse askmefi primarily as a source of entertainment, rather than as a potential answerer? [more inside]

Thanks for the link. I made a book out of it.
Back in November of 2007 I came across jonson’s fpp about Geoff Manaugh’s blog post on a photographer named Shaun O’Boyle. I really liked the photographs, and sometimes my job allows me to develop a book. So I did. Kind of about that link. I asked Geoff Manaugh to write the intro to the book, and he said yes, and then he surprisingly cited an unrelated Metafilter comment in the essay he submitted. [more inside]

We need to talk
What are the sources in the MetaFilter community network where if its not an FPP, doesn't fit into any other category and I don't really feel like framing it as an AskMe, can I vent, chat with friends&Mefites, and deal with something on my mind, in general?
According to XKCD, MeFi is an online community.
New ads coming to MeFi (yes, for users, but only on the front page, and hideable)
New ads from The Deck will start showing up on front pages tomorrow, but don't worry, you can turn them off. [more inside]

Any interest in starting a metafilter Minecraft server? Either creative or (the still very buggy) survival mode?
Blue or Green
So I have an article that I want to post, but the article is essentially a question regarding how people read. Abebooks had a blog post about it and the Guardian picked up on this issue as well. Should I post this on MetaFilter or under AskMefi? No matter where I post it, people will offer up their own preferences for how they read a book. As I see it, this post would be more appropriate in the Green, but I'm not certain.
And the Meffy goes to...

Dear Askme, my cat is wedged in my scanner.
You'd think, after eleven years, we'd have finally figured out how these people got their cats wedged into their scanners, or why. But anyway, Happy Birthday, MeFi!
Horse Glue Factory: Frist Post versus Meaty Post
I hate to get sidetracked but I find it interesting that there will always be two sides when it comes to this issue of how one should post on this site. Link heavy or light? Get the info out there quickly so discussion can occur, or wait and find as many links as possible and provide more for the posting.
We should always be striving for the latter. [more inside]
I want to assassinate skulls.
The guys over at Penny Arcade took on the subject of Blizzard + RealID, and said, "If I thought I could top this comment over at MetaFilter, I would do so. I can't."
How to Explain MeFi?
How do you explain Metafilter to people who may be unfamiliar with the concept of a "community weblog"? [more inside]
All take and no give!
Forgive me if this was asked before (I searched the FAQ), but I see a lot of people asking questions in AskMeFi who have never commented. Why are the guidelines different from MetaFilter (where you have to comment a certain number of times before you post)? I understand that some people are lurkers and we want to be accepting of that, but it seems like a lot of the questions which break the guidelines could be avoided. Maybe I'm just a whiner?
Thank you.
Hello. Thank you. This is my official post hospital, hotel and apartment update. [more inside]
Fighty gladiator thunderdome
This FPP's typical and relatively successful feminism discussion devolved into a mano a mano between DNye and myself. I admittedly took his bait and engaged; my bad. This led to DNye's epic 3,600 word comment (plus addendum and corrections). I'm trying to disengage in that topic 1 2 as I try to avoid pissing matches these days. He wants to keep on fightin' 1 2 so I'm asking him to bring it here. [more inside]

Giving is a smile that comes back
The Metafilter Kiva Team has been in existence for just less than one year. In that time 190 people have made $19,225 in loans - for grocery stores in Cambodia to rock music outlets in Palestine the effect of your loans are felt around the world in significant ways. Still, it represents just a handful of MeFites: less than two-tenths of one percent of the total members of the site. [more inside]

MetaFilter APIs for client access
Are there any APIs or best practices for programmatic access to MetaFilter? In particular, for things like logging in/out, fetching users' messages, sending messages, making posts and comments, favoriting comments, &c. Ways of fetching content in a more fine-grained way than the RSS feeds would also be nice. [more inside]

MeFi in SL II

Best of the web?
This is a question about the phrase "best of the web", as used in relation to Metafilter. I've been coming here for a while, for several years before I signed up, and I never remember seeing "best of the web" used officially to describe the purpose of Metafilter. The phrase "best of the web" appears nowhere in the FAQ. So where does this idea that MeFi is supposed to only be for links that are the "best of the web" come from? Anywhere official, or is it just something people made up over time?
I need [more inside] and less outside.
