C-c-c-combo breaker!
Okay. We've seen it. Now stop. The Pearls Before Breakfast piece has now been posted six times (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) in the last 32 hours. Is this a new record?
What's wrong with my pre-post searching?
I did a google search, looked through the tags, and did a mefi search (for bee and bees) and found no posts that were related, but this still seems to be a double. Why didn't this show up in my searching? This kind of thing has happened to me on a few of my recent posts -- how can I change my search methods to find archived posts more reliably?
double
PonyFilter: It's annoying to click on the same link twice in a post. How about sending the New Post form back for the user to "fix" it?
MeFi ReCurrents
An Immodest Proposal: One of the interesting phenomena I've noticed as other aggregating sites are on their ascendancy (can you Digg it?) is that many links that had been MetaFiltered long ago (in Web time) get a new wave of attention, which flows back around here, and BANG! Double-triple-quadruple post!. And how many times lately have we seen comments like "Didn't see it the first time; glad it was reposted"? Maybe what we need is a separate place for "Re-Current" posts or links, where we can acknowledge that WE got it months/years ago, and re-open comments on it. Obviously, such a sub-Meta would require a lot of moderation/maintenance, and maybe it should be an off-site project. How should it work? Can we/you make it work? Why bother? Any volunteers?
I have a force multiplier?
Gonzo Scooter Journalism
would it be too newsfilter / doublepost to link the closing arguments in the scooter libby trial? the previous post three weeks ago was pretty generic, and the commenters in the thread are right that it was almost impossible to follow what was going on (and i say this as a law student who's fascinated by these things). today, however, was some grand drama, with the defense breaking down into tears, and Fitzgerald going after not just Scooter but Elmer Fudd himself with both barrels. this is stuff that's actually accessible to the general public, but i hate crowding the blue. (grey, i got no problem with, apparently...) thoughts?
Why did you delete my post?
For the record, this was heard previously, but never (unless someone can correct me) seen. [more inside]
Please Delete My Double Post
This is what I get for not checking the front page again before posting. Sorry guys. Mattamyn - hope me? Make it go away?
wiis for woots
you know...mine wasnt a double. it just happened to be on the same site. no big deal. I just thought it was kinda cool.
Could we outlaw cryptic posts & headlines?
I posted this double in large part because the headline for this post from a few days before was so cryptic that it passed under my radar. I'm aware that there can be no official policy outlawing cryptic posts (I'm not arguing for a strict policy, either), but such doubles are bound to occur when the front pages are filled with non-descriptive links. Judging by this and other comments in my thread, I'm not alone in wishing that folks would provide a bit more info with their FPPs. At the least, it could save wasted time on the part of posters and readers alike. Wondering what the wider MeFi community thinks about this.
Callout of a user's antics in imminently deleted double
Shouldn't Matt and Jess be the ones who decide which posts are deleted?
NYC meetup at Double Down
Hampster dance dupe deleted
"hampster dance" just got deleted. it did look (after 17 comments) as though it was about to spiral seriously out of control, but matt could have at least waited an hour or two.. ok, fine, i'll go read about the military coup in thailand.
Can we bring up the original post when doubled?
Is there any way to see a list of original posts that have recently been doubled?
Question about a deleted AskMe
I posted a question to AskMeFi and it is not there. I don't see any post about it being removed here...Can anyone enlighten me on its fate? "Thought Experiment regarding light and mirrors..."
Posted yesterday?
In an attempt to be a better MeFier, I have a question about this post
I cannot find anything remotely similar to this one posted yesterday or any other day...
Can you point me in the right direction..??

Where can I discuss this topic that was deleted?
Okey fine. Then where? Is there some place on the web where DrawBall is being discussed?
Been there, done that.
My first double post. To err is human, to forgive divine?

Same link? No. Double post? Yes.
Deletion of site with mostly different content?
My link to a site with a few hundred photographs gets deleted because it's supposedly a double of a 2-year old link to a post on some messageboard with but a few dozen similar pictures? What gives? (I've happily accepted the fate of unfortunate double posts in the past, but these links are not the same...)
Triple Comments Triple Comments Triple Comments
Twice now I have gone to post a comment and the comment has been posted three times. But both times, I only hit "post comment" button once. Can someone please explain to me why this is happening (and delete the excess comments, please?)
Mathowie has found The Force!

I swear I searched; what can I do better?
Rightyho, I just made an arse of myself by posting this. In about a femtosecond, folks rightly pointed out that it was a dupe.
But I did search in the MeFi/Yahoo searcher up there, and I have since tried to get Google to give me a clue that it was a dupe, with the link: and site: tags. No luck so far.
Can anyone suggest a bulletproof way of establishing that MeFi has not discussed a subject before?

Can I repost it as an FPP?
I posted a link in a comment on the blue. Can I repost it as an FPP?
"stumped" askme is a good reason for doubles
Doing away with double deletions?
Doubleposts and deletions; now that MeFi is a bit of a monster, rather than a very small community, is it time to perhaps do away with the concept of doubleposts, and just let topics stand? For instance, this post was deleted as being a double, although the comments and links inside were significantly more active and amusing than the original, which wasn't linked by the deleter. (As an aside, if we're going to make content disappear because of doubleposts, may I request that the deleter please link to the original topic?)
How is this a double??
Since when would a very cool and novel new Google Maps hack that hasn't been seen before constitute a double post? Overzealous admin'ing?
search for URLs for FPPs

MeFite B: This is nice
MeFite A: sorry, double, delete

A better way to prevent double posts?
Seems to be an awful lot of double posts, often within a day or two of each other. Is there a better way to prevent reposts eg a tag search function which orders results by date. (No doubt this has been asked already, probably four posts down...)
Once again, with feeling
A while back I posted a wonderful video for a song called "JCB Song". It went down very well.
I found out today they are going for a UK Christmas number one, and have added a back-story of their touching song to their site.
Im guessing I cant draw attention to this no? I'm dying for a decent xmas #1 after last year's god awful Band Aid thing.

what's the best way to avoid a double?
I want to make an FPP (my first), but I want to make absolutely sure it isn't a double post. What is the best/most thorough way to check this? I have tried googling key terms but I get so many results that it would be impossible to search through.
Is it just me, or does this no longer exist?
Is it just me, or does the thread that contained the link to the British doc about White Phosphorous and MK-77 being used in Iraq no longer exist?
What the hell?
Yeah, but it is still a double
Am I missing something here? Sure its a good link but its still a double-post and the poster himself states: "*shrug* sorry, I'm a sucker for his photos. I figured everyone who missed it last time would appreciate it and the people who'd already seen it would like to know he's updating again."
Duplicate Posts: Keep the First One, or Keep the More Thorough One?
The other one should be axed, not this one. I couldn't agree more. I know this has happened before- someone writing a well-crafted post is beaten (by about ten minutes) to the punch by a hastily-made, one-link post. I realize that technically, the "first" post wins, but shouldn't exceptions be made for cases like this? It's rewarding speed over substance.
Is there an acceptable time lag for double posts?
So is there any kind of time factor dispensation for double posts?
I was emailed a link today that made me piss myself laughing, which I really feel the need for these days. I came here to post it but found it was already on the front page four years ago.

Complaint on single link FPP on Katrina
Hypothetical - reposting something deleted for bad form?
Hypothetical scenario: Someone puts up a front page post, but does it in a manner with heavy editorializing / intentionally trolling / etc. The topic is interesting, but it gets removed because of the garbage that came along with it. Someone reposts on the same topic, even with some of the same links, but without the editorializing. Would it be okay? Is there a policy on this?

tag search might further eliminate dupes
Avoiding duplicate threads with different URLs: In order to avoid posts like this, a tag search might further eliminate dupes. Would it be worth having (for example) the last three FPPs using the same tag(s) listed when you preview a new thread? And would that be easy to implement?
Just curious - How is this a double post?
Just curious - How is this a double post? I know earlier I had flagged a double comment I had made, but when I checked back to see if any new comments had been added the thread was gone.
What constitutes a double-post?
Question: what constitutes a double-post? This is easy to answer for websites, but it seems to be harder for NewsFilter posts. One person recently argued that a second NewsFilter post on a previously discussed topic isn't a double if it offers a different perspective. However, I'm not sure that argument can be made for the topic of this post, which has already been discussed twice. So is every news article on a topic fair game for its own post? Early returns indicate that the discussion isn't going to be much different from the first two go-rounds, so what's the point? (yes, I know this is a double post).
Tags for deleted double posts
Tag problem? Searching for the Jeff Gannon thread to post this juicy update, I found this page, which says there's a tag but doesn't show it. I think it may be a tag for a deleted double post?
Is there an automatic identical URL detector?
Facts On Farts was deleted within ten minutes of posting. In point of fact, the double post alluded to was all about turds. I checked it myself. Is there some sort of automatic feature that sniffs out identical URL's? Because this was in error, even though I was warned before posting that it looked like a duplicate (but wasn't). FWIW, the fart site actually was written to address a lot of things that any reasonable person might be curious about.
double post
Get it right the first time
Just because there's no good way to get a thread shilling a new piece of free software noticed once it drops off the top of the front page is no reason to make a further thread noting the addition of a uninventive feature that was missed in the original post.
Nor does that fact that KevinSkomsvold saved it by turning it into a discussion about the merits of RSS mitigate my point. IE: What is the best way to do it?

Ooops.
I missed the FPP with a similar topic two posts below because of my habit of skipping links to Windows Media. I didn't mean to post something so topically similar to something else already posted on the front page.
Is there a way to move my post to a comment in the previous one?

It was SO not a double!
I posted this entry that was deleted because "previously." The linked entry did not contain the same link and was marginally about the same subject. What gives?
