It used to be frowned upon to post links from other link agregators/filters. Has it changed?
When I used to read MeFi regularly, it was generally accepted that you didn't post anything from "the usual suspects" such as memepool, boing boing, b3ta, etc. because they themselves are weblogs about interesting, offbeat links and most readers read them as well as MeFi. Seeing as this "LSD art" story has been the top item on memepool for a week, I guess this policy has changed. (This is really not meant to sound rude or snide, apologies if it's taken that way)

Can we criticize?
It's great that Matt is just one of the guys when it comes to posting but, with respect, this post of his seems way below average. It's a short news item, from a big media source, which will already be known to those who follow the news. The post, though, is not the point. My question is "To what extent are we allowed - or able - to criticize his posts as if he were just another user?" Is it ungracious, ungrateful or downright rude, for instance? Fwiw, my opinion is that special treatment and undue deference are just as annoying and even insulting.
Enough with the flash spam.

September 11th anniversary.
Next Thursday is the second anniversary of Sept 11th. The inundation is already starting both here and in all other media. Mayhap the anniversary will be a good time to talk about anything but (i.e. actively posting non-9/11 material)? Or am I being stone cold and inhuman?

Deleted posts search feature?
This thread for googling for WMDs has come up I think three times now. (And will probably be deleted before most of you read this post.) As It took me quite a while to locate via search where the page in question was first posted, and this mistake could be made with similar distributed content is there any way that we can have the search feature include deleated posts? If it did this person would have probably seen the other two deleted posts and not posted this. Perhaps a checkbox on the search page for 'include deleted posts'.
At what point does posting to a thread become pointless?
At the risk of sounding like a newbie (and my user# is embarrassingly large), I have to ask: How long do people read the threads? I often read MeFi in lurk mode, and sometimes don't get around to visiting for a day or two, at which time I will find a thread I would like to comment in, but no one else has posted to for a couple of days. I don't mind missing out on a chance to post a smartass comment, but at times I might have something intelligent to add to the discussion. At what point does posting to a thread become pointless?

I thought I saw a link here a few days ago, about a bookmark that would quickly let you know, using amazon's database, whether a specific cd was put out by a member of the riaa. but when I searched for this link here, it was gone. And I didn't see it on lofi, when I looked there. Normally, I wouldn't care too much about a deleted thread, but I can't seem to find the link in question via google either. can anyone help me out?

How kosher is posting websites in languages other than English?
How kosher is posting websites in languages other than English? Aren't we missing out on a sizeable - and valuable - part of the Web? The available online translation machines I've tried so far (Babel Fish et al.) are dreadful and hinder more than they help, but I've recently found WorldLingo to be appreciably less bad. MetaFilter users seem, to me at least, to be very interested in - and open to - "foreign" languages. Should posters risk posting a machine translation along with a link to a website in a non-English language, for instance?

Is it a good idea to edit a Front Page Post after it's posted, changing obvious typos and grammatical mistakes? Isn't that kinda like changing history?

Links do improve and furnish a comment: When people do a little research before they comment and include a helpful or amusing link (and some users, like sheauga and madamjujujive put in almost as much work as they do in their posts), threads gain a new life and go off in all sorts of interesting directions. Sometimes deliciously and all at once. Some more threadbare posts, like the Libeskind one, are actually repaired and rehabilitated by the ensuing links. For some, linky comments may be a pain - do many actually click on them, given that a few don't even read the main links? - but I, for one, think they're dandy and would like to see more of them.

Post moderation. I can empathize with feelings of attachment to posts which you submit. When you post as often as troutfishing has in his own post (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11), however, I think you are overdoing things.

Can Posts Have Titles?
A while back there was a discussion about the non-informative RSS/RDF/XML feed titles, due to the fact that metafilter/metatalk threads don't have 'titles' as such. Could we perhaps have a an extra field in the 'post an FPP' form marked 'Post title' or something that was less than some arbitrary limit of characters long and could be used for things like the feeds, and more importantly (and the reason I'm requesting this) for page titles.
I tend to open all the links I want to read in one go. When I click on the "(n new)" link I don't go to the top of the story, and so when I get to the page after reading other FPPs, I don't know what this story's about anymore, and can't glance at the document title for a hint of the general subject as with many sites.

I know it has been discussed before, but this post's link to the light version does something different: it brings up the print dialog [ie 6/xp and moz 1.0/xp]. I'd prefer the regular version to a page that decides to open the printer dialog for me.

There is an onslaught coming. In nine days it will be the one year anniversary of 9/11. What is our policy with FPP on that day? Are there guidelines for such "busy" day?
Can I post links that I found on Fark first?
I visit several sites and it is interesting to note where a story appears first. More than once I've seen an article on Fark a day or two before it shows up here. I'm not complaining, I know not everyone reads Fark, but is there any sort of policy on this? I mean, I've considered posting articles found on Fark but never have simply because there are 50k Fark members, so anything there will show up on many Blogs, and is thus not likely to be new to a majority of MeFians. Am I wrong? I will only post a on the front page if I can find something that I think will be interesting and new. However that may be an impossible task. Yet it can be done.

9401 not behaving in reverse chron order
This is probably not worth much investigation, but I'm curious to know if it's happening to anyone else. When sorting by "my comments", the commented threads are in reverse chronological order, except that one thread (http://www.metafilter.com/mefi/9401) from July 2001 has for some reason sandwiched itself in between December 2001 threads and threads from 2002.
FPP hogging the front page
Hogging the front page. Yes, I can read around this, but it takes up pretty much my whole window. As members don't we have some responsibility to keep the front page looking like a log of the web, rather than a Chinese protest wall?
