I am having trouble finding a post

I am having trouble finding a post to a cool web tool (java, maybe?) where you chose a parameter or some colors, then dragged your mouse around to make spline-y funky patterns. It seems it would have been especially useful to make cool mathy looking web backgrounds. I haven't the foggiest idea what search terms to even start with, and those I've tried have come up empty. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Metafilter titles should be more succinct for RSS readers

Reading the blue through RSS is still something of a guessing game. A while ago there was a useful discussion about this but nothing's really changed. Please could the blue be more like the green? (in so many ways.)

Intra-filter trackbacks

For the big pile of stuff: How about a wikipedia-style "Mefi posts that link to this post" box on the side of each thread (that has been linked back to)? So when someone links back to a post, that old post now links forward to the new thread. Especially useful if you search and find an older thread, and would like also to read the subsequent threads which say "previously discussed on MetaFilter..." Ideally, it would pick up on comments as well as posts that link to a specific thread (not to a specific comment in the thread, though).

Can anyone find or remember the link to a gallery selling framed mathematical equations?

Can anyone find or remember the link to a gallery selling framed mathematical equations? All the obvious search terms are escaping me, making me think that the post referred to the link's content in an oblique way. The art was very simple, just the equations on a white background with a black frame. It could have been on AskMetafilter or Metafilter, I do not remember which. Thanks!

What's the policy on removing links?

Policy clarification question: Matt deleted a link to revisionist.org. I'm not necessarily opposed to this, but I do have a few questions: a) What is the history of link removal from FPP - not modification, like adding a NSFW, but under what circumstances are links actually removed? b) When a link is removed for political reasons, what is the rationale behind the removal? Can we auto-add http:// to links?

Small, but unlikely pony request: When a user creates a link to an external site, but forgets the "http://", a MeFi error page results. It would be helpful if the system scanned the links in a post and tried to detect these orphaned links.

Can anyone help me find it?

There was a funny anecdote posted in either AskMe or normal ole Metafilter about project priorities, where someone was telling about an initial list at their workplace being A-D, and by the end the highest was like AAAAA+ and nothing was less than A. Can anyone help me find it? I found it funny and want to note its URL for posterity's sake.

Content or quality?

I'm confused. What is more important to mefites, actually responding to the content of FPPs, or rating their quality? I see a general (hence, no links in this question) preponderance to the former. It seems that many responses to posts are actually rating the quality of it and/or the poster, rather than the content of the FPP. I've read a lot of the sites about Metafilter and maybe I'm missing a concept or something.

I am truly not trying to be a smartass, I'm genuinely interested in understanding this. Thanks.

Can I post this?

Some friends of mine were stuck in a New Orleans during Katrina, and shot a documentary on HDV centering around the Superdome as shelter. They have a page up for the film, with a trailer and stills and whatnot. These are friends of course, and I've worked with them in the past, but I was not involved in this project. Would this be appropriate FPP material, or would it be dangerously close to a self-link? Or, for that matter, would a FPP about a movie trailer just suck to begin with?

Why me? Why multi-links?

Some snarky character here informed the world that my post had been scrubbed because it was only a single link. It was replaced by a bigger, multi-link version of the same story. I accuse him of scrubbing it but he denied it. How, though, did he know it had been replaced? But what I really want to know is why there is this new insistance on multi-link FPPs? When I first came to Metafilter I found it useful to have items that interested me pointed out and made available. That was great. I then did my own further research. Multi-link posts generally appear to be posted as a means of either making an argument for a particular pov or to publicize some topic or subject, with a lot of authorities sited much like footnotes. This is not, to my mind what this site used to be about.

As it happens if the intro interests me I want to go to the most relevant link, not plow through the poster's own research. But further, I am not a programmer or enough of a geek to even know how to do the html for all the secondary links, let along italics. My e-mail software makes URLs clickable and it seems that it ought to be simple enough to make URLs clickable in the windows for both comments and original posts. You- and I guess I am writing to Matt here - did try to do italics for a while, but they didn't work for my Mac and they have now disappeared. But really, has this become a place for people to show off theirs html cleverness or to pass along what might be interesting or valuable information? It is called a filter isn't it? What has that come to mean?

Are silly threads allowed now?

Has there been a slight shift in policy?

The silly personality quiz and the infamous Mushroom post are both things I would have thought would have been flagged copiously and deleted, but they remain.
I am not having a hissy fit, and am perfectly willing to skip over or add to the stillness as I see fit.
This is just seeking some clarification as to if anything different is happening and can we expect more of the same.

AskMe posting descriptions could be clearer

When posting to AskMe there is some confusion on the descriptions of the text boxes. I copied the italicized text from the "Preview Your Question" AskMe posting page.

Below the "Your question" box the text reads:
This will be the "more inside" area where you explain additional details about the question if necessary. If you use this space, don't write "more inside" to the question area, it will automatically be added for you.

Then below the "Extended explanation" box is something similar:
(optional) This will be the "more inside" area where you explain the question fully if necessary and remember there is no need to write "more inside" .....

I found this a little confusing and repetitive. I know that the top box is what would be a FPP, but maybe this could be phrased better? Is the text below the top box supposed to introduce/explain the second box? Of course, I posted a question so now I can't get back to the original "Post a new question" page to see if that is how this is written there.

Too popular for MeFi?

What's the etiquette on posting stuff you've just seen at somewhere like BoingBoing? So far this morning, there's been 2 posts that appeared on BB in the last week. I saw them when they first came up there, and thought, "hey, this is neat, people on Mefi would like this," but then decided against posting them here. I know that sometimes one can encounter a flurry of "Xfilter!!!!" comments by doing something like that.

Should we actively avoid posting things we've seen on other, highly popular link-oriented blogs?

One word post aren't informative.

One. Word. FPPs. (ok, so the last is more than one word) I don't know about you, but sometimes I'm stuck on a slow connection. Dial-up slow. I have to carefully select which links I click, and I don't want to waste my time on links that don't interest me. I screen my choices based on the info provided by the FPP itself, and link location is only mildly helpful (except for newsfilter). Can't we please get a consensus for making the FPPs informative enough to judge interest? (other uninformative posts today alone...)

I suggest we do another contest like amberglow's, on October 1 prehaps? There wouldd be no prizes from me but if someone else steps up and offers that would be ideal. No need to "sign" your posts or comments. Just below each post and comment, we can see your name. By clicking your name, readers can find any info you want to share (and as a community we encourage email addresses being listed so we can help you out with stuff via email rather than call you out in the thread or on MeTa). Just thought I'd give a heads up for some of the newer folks, as this young fellow mentioned it in his comment.
