Tags in RSS feeds
I know we've discussed not adding tags to front page posts, but how about the RSS feed? For posts that are somewhat cryptic, it could help with context.

Two new features, feeds and more feeds
Two new features: resolved question sidebar (and feed) and RSS feeds for the Popular favorites page. All is explained within. [more inside]
Comment feeds in descending chronology
The RSS feeds for comments update in reverse order - with the most recent comments showing up at the bottom of the list (oldest to newest) - unlike the feed for posts where the most recent is at the top (newest to oldest).
Why is this the case? [more inside]
MetaTalk RSS feed showing MeFi posts
The MetaTalk RSS feed is showing MeFi front page posts. I'm using NewsGator, and this has only happened (last I checked) within the past 24 hours. Does anyone else have this problem?
RSS feed scrubbed of deleted posts?
Greetings from a neophyte mefite. I was wondering: is there a way to get versions of the RSS feeds which don't include front-page posts that have already been deleted? If not, it's a feature suggestion, so please discuss. Apologies if I'm being dumb and this is simply not possible using RSS.
(For a while I enjoyed the "guess if this post has been deleted" game, but it's getting old...)

RSS vs. Page formatting
Why does this question lose all formatting even though it is formatted in my RSS reader? Doesn't appear to have happened to other questions nearby.
Improperly formed MetaTalk RSS.
MetaTalk RSS doesn't validate, isn't properly formed XML--due to unquoted special characters. This seems to be getting irritatingly common, is something missing out of the auto-quote list, or could we have auto-quote for the RSS beefed up in general? AskMe never seems to have problems, just MetaTalk almost every week or so.
Nuking old RSS feeds ...
I have a question/suggestion about the RSS feeds attached to each post. (If I have misunderstood something, and this turns out to be a 'Doh' question, then my apologies in advance ...) Closed threads still seem to have an RSS feed associated with them, including a 'Subscribe' link at the top. These feeds will of course never be updated, so will keeping these around be damaging to MetaFilter's standing in Google/Technorati/etc. rankings? After all, as time goes by, we'll end up with a gadzillion feeds that are never updated, and only a few (relatively) that are. I'm sure the Googlebot must be trained to give ranking 'demerits' to blogs, etc. with feeds that are never updated.
Nuking the RSS feeds for closed threads would also make it easier for users. At present, we never really know when any given thread that we are following by RSS is 'finished' or not. But if we see in our reader 'Feed failed to load', that will let us know that it's officially done, and we can delete it. I guess you could easily create a daemon that would run daily, nuking the feeds for closed threads ...
RSS feeds in Google searches
The new RSS feeds (which are wonderful) are starting to show up in Google searches. I doubt this is what anyone wants. I would suggest that they be disallowed in robots.txt, or set NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW.
Finally! RSS for everything!
New feature: RSS on all threads. If you're using IE7, Firefox, or Safari, open any thread on mefi, ask mefi, metatalk, music, or travel and you'll see a small RSS icon in your address bar. Click that, and you'll find a feed of the post and all comments. We'll soon add explicit links on the pages themselves, but for now the autodiscovery tag should work. Use this feature to track new comments on questions you've asked, threads you were interested in hearing followups, and any other thread you'd like to stay up to date on in your RSS reader.
rss on tagged ask query fails if empty set.
The rss feed for "ask metafilter" tagged empty sets returns an error. (For Example.) I wanted to add a bunch of esoteric tag links to google reader that would allow me to answer those questions that I consider myself an expert in. This works fine in those situations where questions currently exist for the specified tag, but not so good when nobody has asked a question about that subject before.
Playlist RSS headaches
Playlist RSS pedantry: <link> might not be encoding special characters. This item isn't encoding as such in this playlist and is thereby horking up XML parsing.

RSS Feeds for Posts?
Hi Mighty Admins (and MeFites).
Just wondering if there are RSS feeds for posts? I've just recently discovered netvibes and it would be great if I could use RSS to keep track of posts.
Of course, even better would be if I can get an RSS feed of my posts with an indication of how many comments are there. That way, I could quickly see if any new comments had been made, without having to add all these new RSS feeds everytime I make a post!
Is this all pie in the sky, or is it do-able?
Favorites Feed
MeFi has got all kinds of RSS feeds, but there isn't an official feed of the popular favorites page, which would be a great way to filter out the site to the most popular posts.
Learning to code with MeFi's RSS
Clueing people in about the title field and RSS?
Is it possible to reach these people about the tasty moral goodness of using the title field properly - BEFORE they hit the submit button? The one at a time approach seems counterintuitive.
RSS Feed Issues
RSS gone bad? Metafilter Jobs, Ask Metafilter, and Metatalk are showing front page Metafilter posts instead of their respective posts. I'm using Google Reader, if that matters. I tried adding the feeds using Sage to see what was up, and it finds feeds but won't find any actual posts.
RSS feeds on Google
Can the RSS feeds be hidden from Google? They're pretty much useless in search results (like the first hit on this one).
Ironically Non-Descriptive
A thread in which someone who browses AskMe via RSS, annoyed by people's tendency to post inadequately descriptive "Headline/Title"s, but aware that this has been discussed before, illustrates his displeasure by composing alternative questions to fit some recent titles, in an attempt to encourage others to submit titles that better describe their questions.
FYI 4 web 2.0, YMMV
Google Reader is pretty crappy at updating certain feeds, especially MeFi and del.icio.us feeds (I'm pretty sure it's been discussed before and chalked up to whatcanyoudo). On a lark, I tried making a yahoo pipe for ask.me that doesn't actually do anything to the feed, just grabs it in, and splurts it back out. And guess what, its been updating like a champ all day. Your mileage may vary, but I thought I'd share this TOTALLY AWESOME and buzzword compliant "hack" with youse guys.
It works on my del.icio.us network and for feeds too, which were updating maybe once every couple weeks, if you care.
Filtering Posts
Is there a way to not receive posts matching a given tag? [details inside]
Broken RSS Feeds
It appears that the RSS feeds are down. Obviously I can still get to the rest of the site, but Firefox's Live Bookmark feature is coming up with "Blank" instead. Other bookmarks are correctly updating. When I try to browse to the correct location, I time out. Started around noonish today, EST, I think. Before I wiped away my MetaFilter list by requesting the bookmark, the most recent story was the one about Ellen Feiss. I know this is happening to MeTa, MeFi, and AskMe.
AskMeFi RSS feed
AskMeFi RSS feed: Could use some sort of delineation between the question text and the More Inside text.

How about an RSS Feed for the sidebar?
RSS Title Length

Tagged post not appearing in feed
I subscribe to a handful of askmefi tags via RSS in Google Reader, one of which is delicious (for when people don't use the del.icio.us tag). Any idea why this post hasn't shown up in GR at all, or am I asking in the wrong place?
AskMe RSS Problem
For some reason the Ask Metafilter RSS feed quit working for me a few days ago. I'm reading it through Bloglines and the last post which shows up is from November 22, 2006 at 6:54am. Is anyone else seeing this issue?
Can I get an RSS feed of my own AskMe questions?
It's a pony, but one a lot of people would want to ride, I hope.
I'd love to see an RSS feed of the comments of AskMe questions I post (and for that matter, blue and grey too, though separately), so that I can keep an eye on the responses to me over time.

AskMe RSS Bug?
Er, is there a problem with the AskMe RSS feed? I haven't gotten anything in at least two days, despite MeFi and MeTa feeds working fine.
I'm viewing in Google Reader, if that matters.

RSS autodectect to tag-specific feed
Here is a little feature request. I was thinking that the tag results page (e.g. posts taged with "ski"), should have a rss auto-detect meta tag in them that points to the tag specific RSS feed. Currently it has one that points to the site wide RSS feed. The specs are clear that you are allowed to have multiple rss auto detect tags in one document.
Whatcha think?

Request for RSS feed for Popular Favorites.
I love the new tabbed layout, but is it possible to get an RSS feed only for the "Popular Favorites" tab on MeFi and on Ask MeFi ?
Smart Quotes and RSS
Smart Quotes Ahoy! Love 'em or hate 'em, they turn up awful weird in my RSS reader.
Not a major crisis, I was just surprised to see Word-style formatting passing through after the very recent thread on blocking entities.

Let me display my ignorance about RSS
Let me display my ignorance about RSS. Since there are so many AskMeFi links, I miss posts via RSS on my MyGoogle page. Is there a way to increase the frequency at which RSS updates? Is this a Google problem?
Repeated posts in RSS
I've been seeing something strange on metafilter, for quite some time now. Posts from certain people appear over and over again in my RSS feed (about once an hour). I would think this was a flaw in my RSS reader (which is intraVnews, btw), but it is always the posts of the same small set of users. It seems to not be an effect on all posts, or on a random selection of posts, but on all posts from a very few posters (whose names I'll withhold as not to sound accusatory).
So, is this a spamming effort being effected by some users? For instance, if one were to periodically edit ones own posts, could one achieve the effect of getting into the RSS feed over and over? Or perhaps there's some other trick. I've corresponded with jessamyn on this, and probably been a pain (sorry). She recommended I contact mathowie (who I imagine reads this) and metatalk.

RSS feed for each user
Daddy, I want a pony.
Further to me asking this, I'd love it if Matt would make a(nother) RSS feed for each user, listing all of their contributions (posts and comments [or maybe just posts?]) - basically, a what-I-said-on-MeFi Feed. Is it a big strain on the server, making these feeds? There seem to be a lot per-user already.

How about an RSS Feed that keeps track of when other people save your comment as favorites? Then you would never have to check that page manually to boost your self-worth.
