Does the html posting toolbar show up in AskeMe using Safari?
I suppose this must come up from time to time, but I couldnt' find it searching... I was just viewing AskMe through Safari and when I went to add a comment, the little toolbar for bolding/italcizing/linkifying text wasn't there. I see this is the same on the other pages as well. What up with that?
an exemplary specimen
I would just like to point out that the way in which louigi formatted his multi-question post to AskMe is superb, and should be a model for future questions of this nature.

Is ask.metafilter becoming less civil?
I have followed ask.metafilter for several years--infrequent poster but faithful reader and occasional responder. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed in the last several months a slight decline in the civility of responses and an increasing harshness of tone. I note an increasing judgementalism particularly the reframing of the question to challenge the poster. It is still one of the most civil places I visit. Really, I was just curious. Obviously, it appears more often on the human relation issues. Thanks for any comments
Missing Spell Check
Is anyone's spell check on AskMefi just not showing up? There is just no icon for the spell checking tool (showing up for me). I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.7 on a Windows XP. Thanks.
Hypothetical question
Am I stupid? Re: My very first deleted post. Yes, I've read the FAQ and some of the related discussions, and yes, I realize that hypotheticals are generally a no-no, but I thought this particular question could not be framed in any manner that was not hypothetical, if you catch my drift. Please berate me appropriately.
Can I post this to askme?
I want to post a question in the green about finding mp3 copies of This American Life or someplace where folks swap CDs of programs. We're headed back to Italy in October and I'd like to load some shows on my iRiver for the long flight.
I've googled for the past half hour and I'm half-crosseyed from all the conflicting opinions I've read about the producers of the show urging folks to remove links from their websites during the "deep linking" fiasco-lite over the summer.
The upshot is this - would I be asking an illegal-activities-war3z-type question? Cause I don't want to sully my good name...

AskMe Guidelines
After seeing posts like little Miss Professor's object de amour, I don't think AskMeFi should be closed to scorn. Many people that ask questions are only looking for approval, not answers.
Apache startup page found on AskMe
Using Camino on OS X, I get the Apache startup page ("Test page for Apache Installation" is the Title) when I try to go to ask.metafilter.com. I can't reproduce it on either Safari or Firefox on my machine, only Camino.
Askme history: that thread with the indie playlist for the playground set.
I'm searching for an old AskMe thread where the OP requested a list of indie-rock/indie-pop music that would be good for children. I've already searched tags and AskMe search for various combinations of the terms "kids", "children" "indie" "music" and "playlist" and have not come up with the thread I am remembering. It was not the ice-cream-social thread or the hip-hop for a 10-year-old thread. I seem to recall it was from about 1-2 years ago.
OP starts judgements early
I'm taking myself to metatalk because I am honestly not sure what the best thing to do would be.
Here was a heartbreaking post from a grieving person who specifically asked people not to take their abortion debates into the thread. The Confessor posted what I thought was a completely uncalled for judgement on those who have abortions ("for convenience"-- a common anti-abortion term). I found it personally offensive and noted so in-thread, stating I didn't want to hijack (or debate) but that I found the judgement to be uncalled for. Now I am not sure if that was the right thing to do. Should I have called out here to begin with? Should I have ignored it?
And I want to apologize to anonymous for making a "thing" in his thread.

I have posted updates
I have posted updates to a couple of questions: Bicycle rear wheel problems and How can I drive a LED as a light-emitter and a photo-diode simultaneously?
Divorce too often recommended as solution
This sort of thing irks the hell out of me. When I asked for advice on getting my picky wife to eat well while pregnant, I also got advice like this ("my question in your circumstances would be about divorce lawyers"). I've seen a number of others like this too over the last year(s), advocating divorce or 'dumping' for any sort of relationship issue. Can we get a smackdown on these idiotic AskMe answers?

Unanswered AskMe Contest?
Yahoo! Answers UK 5 million answers challenge-a gimmicky promotion for a not-very-good service, but it gave me an idea:
What if we had a contest for unanswered AskMe questions (those that haven't had a best answer marked) older than, say, a month? Suggested prize: choice of free Metafilter account or $5 for each unanswered question that was resolved favorably. Of course we would need a special page where we could view lingering unanswered questions. Which would be a pretty decent idea anyway; I would certainly read it.

Seriously, do I need to answer more than I ask?
What approximate Question/Answer ratio I should attempt to maintain to avoid this sort of static in responses to my own AskMe questions?
Best reason for deleting a thread EVER.
Teachers wear Ask Me shirts
Thought you might get a kick out of the shirts that all of the staff members at my school had to wear for the first day of class (they were supposed to make us more recognizable/approachable).

How anonymous is it really?
When someone asks an anonymous question on ask.metafilter, are people at Mefi or anyone else aware of the asker's identity? How anonymous is it really?
Let's Discuss Marginally Illegal Questions

Question about a deleted AskMe
I posted a question to AskMeFi and it is not there. I don't see any post about it being removed here...Can anyone enlighten me on its fate? "Thought Experiment regarding light and mirrors..."

Just in case you were wondering "how often is that AskMe feed really borked, anyway?" [more inside]
Congratulations, AskMe.
Congratulations, AskMe. This was a fantastic response to someone who probably thought she was losing her mind, the only person who ever felt like this or just plain evil. I felt so very sad for her when I read her question, and I'm glad she knows she's not alone in feeling like this.
What you REALLY wanted to ask was...
So, at what point does answering the question you feel someone *should* have asked cross the line?
Why was my answer on AskMe deleted?
A few weeks ago, I left an answer on this post. I went back to look at it again, and it's gone. It wasn't rude, it wasn't abusive, it didn't contain foul language or untruths.
It was a criticism of previous advice, but it was, I believe, a legitimate criticism. Frankly, I think it should still be there - no one else has made a similar point, and someone needed to.
I know that people will turn around and say 'this is Matt's site, we shouldn't complain...' - but I don't buy it. This site would be nothing without the community. And this sort of arbitrary moderation makes me much more reluctant to contribute to that community.
I'm not the most prolific member, I may not be a loss, but if it can happen to me...

Question counted in answer in contacts
When viewing a contact, you might see that they have "1 AskMe Question" and "3 AskMe Answers". But if you click on the linked "3" for the Answers, you will see 1 question and 2 answers listed. It appears that we're counting the question as an answer, also.

Shrill cries of "tasteless!"
Hello, JudgeMe! A guy asks about copyright infringement, and everyone jumps all over him. It may be tasteless to you...
How do you STILL not know the answer?
Am I dense? Why is this question about liquids on planes appropriate for ask metafilter when the answer had already been posted on practically every major English language news site in the world before the question was asked? And was being broadcast on TV and radio? And was just pretty much inescapable for anyone who actually wanted to find the answer?
Um, three piggybacks in one thread?

Excessive, and really unfair to the OP, or just another part of being in a community environment?

Boo, my Askme question was deleted.
Boo, my Askme question was deleted. I'm disappointed, because I did mean the question seriously-- I was actually hoping to get some scientific information/insight into radioactive half-lives, heavy-metal contamination, global warming, etc. Was the tone too flippant? Could I have phrased it better?
AskMe Relationship Questions
Is it time for freetherapy.metafilter.com? Nothing against this poster or their particular situation, but it's perhaps the most egregious example I've seen of the "I just want someone to talk to" style of non-question that seems to increasingly pollute AskMe.
Arriving in style like James Bond - update demanded
Maxpower, if you're out there, is there any chance we can get a follow up to my favorite AskMe thread of all time? It's been sitting on my links toolbar for months!
Why was this post deleted?
Why was this post deleted? The asker seemed like he had a legitimate question, and some interesting answers were surfacing.
On sympathy-begging non-questions in askme
This is what I'm talking about. Posting a long rant that is skewed to your opinion with an inane question tacked on in order garner some empathy from a faceless crowd is inconsiderate.
I'm not going to lie. I think this is fascinating. When my browser loads up, it loads grouphug.us because these stories are entertaining. However, in the AskMe venue, all it does is provide a place for non-questions to get non-answers, contributing to the noise and detracting from the attention answerable questions can get.

"Wasn't there some kind of . ."
I hereby resolve to never answer an AskMe question with anything based on "I vaguely remember . . ." or "I seem to recall . . ." or "Wasn't there some kind of . ." Those answers are about as useful as "It came to me in a dream" would be.
So - who's with me?

Weirdest mention of MeFi in the press
Weirdest mention of MeFi in the press: in a press release about advice for college students by a boardgame company. They googled, got Ask MetaFilter, and printed it. I have no idea why.
Layout suggestion for horozontal rules on AskMe
Add a separator (horizontal line, blank line, whatever you deem appropriate) of some kind: (1) between answers in AskMeFi, and (2) between new and old questions on the front page. This would help break up the page a little more.
Closing AskMe Threads
Do AskMetafilter questions not close to new comments after 30 days the way Metatalk & Metafilter do?
Can I Click 1 Link to Open All Links in a Post?
(I am not a programmer so I have no Idea how hard this might be...) Would it be possible to have a link attached to each original posting in Meta and AskMe, that could be clicked by the reader to open all the links the poster included in their original posting, in Firefox tabs? I know this sounds lazy, but I thought it might be a neat feature...
Posts roll off AskMe's front page too quickly.
Mathowie hates late people! ;-)
Is it possible to have the AskMe front page show the last 12 hours of questions instead of whatever it currently does (a number? a lesser time?)? As of now, questions asked in the morning appear to get many more replies than ones asked at night, which scroll off the bottom as the morning-risers repeatedly ask where they can get a tattoo or a decent meal in New York. ;-)

Answer the question without preaching
I'm going to totally ignore your question, but I am going to pimp my religion.
What's the most offensive, racist joke you have ever heard?
I can't see any justification for this AskMe.
