Weirdest mention of MeFi in the press

Weirdest mention of MeFi in the press: in a press release about advice for college students by a boardgame company. They googled, got Ask MetaFilter, and printed it. I have no idea why.

AskMe connects seeker with information source

This Ask MeFi post is probably one of the best examples of finding the answer you were looking for. Simply incredible.

Ask MeFi made Business Week's Best of the Web list for "Research"

I just realized today that Ask MeFi made Business Week's Best of the Web list for "Research" but I didn't notice in time to have everyone stuff the ballot box on public voting so we got last place. heh.

Anonymous Posting Returns

Anon posting is back on for Ask Metafilter, including all the extended areas and categories and tags and whatnot. I think I tested everything out and it worked, but let me know if you find any bugs, as I'm sure I forgot one.

Calling All Bugs

This is the Ask MetaFilter is totally broken bucket. Please leave all refuse here, and I'll do my best to fix it in the next 24 hours. I just made the new posting page live and will try and get everything up and running before I got to sleep in a couple hours, but I'm sure I'll miss a lot. Help me here.

Mention in "Cool Tools"

Kevin Kelly does a great newsletter called Cool Tools where he normally reviews hard-to-find stuff and geek gadgets. Today he offered up a nice review of Ask MetaFilter. It's not on the site yet, so here's a screenshot from email. I thought it got to the heart of Ask MeFi pretty well, especially the part about reading it for questions you didn't know you wanted to know, but were dying to find out the answers to.

Pony - best answer search

Another tiny new feature: you can search for just questions with good answers marked at Ask MetaFilter. Here's an example of a search result with this in action.

Ask Metafilter update from mathowie 6/14/06

Ask Mefi update: all the questions and answers are in a new database, meaning that new features will be coming soon. First up will be links to all questions and answers on your user page, probably done tonight. Then categories, keywords, and all sorts of cool shit. Let me know if you find any errors in the meantime.

Ask Metafilter is Born

Ask MetaFilter is born. Feel free to pose a question to other members here. Obviously those of a technical nature are going to meet with the most success, but questions outside of that realm are also good too.

I'll delete dumb questions or those that prove to be nothing but flamewars and/or goof-off fests, and if this section takes off I'll be adding more features to it (like rating what the best answer was) and move it into its own area.
