clarificaiton wanted, derail not wanted
Looking for clarification for this comment by undule. Just trying to avoid a derail in the thread in question. [More inside]
NYT Viswanathan article mentions MeFi
MetaFilter cited in New York Times' article about Kaavya Viswanathan.
Should I post this FPP? If so, how? [mi]

fix link in fpp
MinorCorrectionFilter: as luftmensch pointed out, the 6th link in this FPP should probably point to this site (or some more descriptive page within it).
Too many links makes a post something something
Can some sort of rule/guideline/something be considered, stating that FPP's shouldn't have a bajillion links, one in each individual word?
I know it's not a serious thing, and a programmatic solution isn't the way to go, but when I see posts like this it drives me nuts. Am I the only one?

Why has MetaFilter traffic spiked so fast?
Does anyone know why MeFi has almost doubled its reach during the past 2 weeks? Just curious.
Zen-like post from a few years ago?
There was a thread here, a couple of years ago, I think, about the Zen-like (I don't remember if he was actually aligned with that tradition) aphorisms of a wise man. Many of his insights were oddly striking, but some of them seemed kind of obvious, too. An example was something like this: "People look more attractive at night."
I have searched, but not been able to find that thread. Any idea where it is?

"Feel free to have another bitch session about me."
If you'd like one more chance to rail on about dios, here's your chance. (Me? I don't care. I'm just tired of seeing good posts highjacked.)
Win the thread.
What's the deal with people "winning" threads all the time?
Tell us when TSA actually finds something...
Is there anything that makes this post good? (mi)
Mefi compilation album idea
Various artists: Feelin' Blue (Metafilter Records, 2006)

This is a forum post, not an FPP
Personal Response to incident
Why just debate the issues surrounding the Australian government's miscarriage of justice in the case of Nick Gill, when you can actually read Mr. Gill's personal response to the incident at hand?
Clean up possible misquote to avoid nuclear fallout
Cleanup on aisle 50764.
While I appreciate what a fun fireball the thread might turn into, the subject of the FPP is miffed by syntax in the FPP which might be construed as attributing a quote to her (when in fact it is a quote by someone else whom she is disagreeing with), and the FPPer has also said he/she has no problem changing the syntax, so in the name of avoiding nuclear fallout, could Jessamyn or Matt edit the FPP?

Is this too gossipy?
Gossipfilter? Is this appropriate for Metafilter, or should insomnia_lj just have his hot-tub party rights revoked?
Bad newsfilter post.
An updstanding community member
This guy has really learned his lesson. He's a worthwhile member of the community, who really respects the admins.
That's why he mentions that he'd like to do the exact thing that got him banned previously. Because he's so sorry, and has so much respect.

MetaFilter mentionned on autoblog.

Hey, my monthly political hobbyhorse is recurring!
Axegrindfilter.
"Hey, my monthly political hobbyhorse is recurring! C'mon guys, it's important!"
If we have to play with the "party" as metaphor, I throw the relentless proslytizers out before I bother with folks who call each other bad names.

so cool!
a grotesque lack of civility in the ad homonym realm
Thread 50250 should be used to indict, convict, and ban several Members for a grotesque lack of civility in the ad homonym realm.
You'd love to see him die what?
Mr. Hincandenza, this is the United States Secret Service. We've got a few questions for you about something you posted on the internets.
LoFi has extra links!
Why does this post have an extra link in LoFi but not on the blue?
It looks like the missing link is the whole point of the post.

Bad parodies make bad posts
This is unacceptable. It should serve as an example to all the community, that one should never attempt to parody another's FPP. Especially if the execution of such a parody is flawed by broken links. SHAME.
Email from Marshall Oak.
Remember Marshall Oak, the star trek photoshopping guy? He found us! (email inside)
Atom/RSS parse Error
since this morning i'm getting a parse error for the feed http://xml.metafilter.com/atom.xml (ff live bookmark feed)... but not for http://xml.metafilter.com/rss.xml (xml feed link in mefi sidebar)... just me (and/or my sage reader)? or is it a bug?
Clooney misattribution.
Where did the hybrid thread go?
Where da hybrid thread at? It was actually kind of interesting.
Doing away with double deletions?
Doubleposts and deletions; now that MeFi is a bit of a monster, rather than a very small community, is it time to perhaps do away with the concept of doubleposts, and just let topics stand? For instance, this post was deleted as being a double, although the comments and links inside were significantly more active and amusing than the original, which wasn't linked by the deleter. (As an aside, if we're going to make content disappear because of doubleposts, may I request that the deleter please link to the original topic?)

Unconfirmed rumors not yet best of web
I ... agree with dios. This is a terrible post.
Pronunciation of MeFi and MeFite?
MeFi: may-fee [mefi] or mee-fie [mifaɪ]? Mefite: mee-fight or may-fight? I was a little disconcerted at a meet-up to realise that some people pronounce these terms differently than I do. Is there a dominant pronounciation? Any other variants? (idle curiosity of a linguistics student)
Using another's name to prove a point
This post is unrepentantly awful. Oh so brave internet crusading aside, is using another Mefi member (let alone four of them) to prove a point going to be allowed in FPP's now?

Today has been quality
Today, February 17, 2006, has seen the most quality, well written posts ever, or for at least during my time here. The bar has been raised. I'll try to keep up. Thanks!
Update on anti-consumer movement
Gifting a Metafilter account
Can I give the gift that keeps on giving? Meaning, a mefi account? As it stands I could pay the five bucks and sign somebody up, but the giftee wouldn't have any control over her username or password and can't change them after the fact.

Why is Metafilter "taking a massage" in Firefox?
Why is Metafilter "taking a massage" when I try to view the page on Firefox, but works perfectly fine when I view it in Internet Explorer? I should add that before this morning, Metafilter always worked fine in Firefox. And, despite MeFi's problems, AskMe and MeTa are working fine in Firefox right now.
making multiple links more visible
Just a style suggestion for links that include single words with multiple links.
A period ('.'), or a middle dot ('·' ·), or even a spacing cedilla ('¸' ¸) between the links would make it a lot less annoying, especially for those of us with motor control problems. I'm not suggesting this as any sort of rule, just as a nicety.

What's the policy on removing links?
Policy clarification question: Matt deleted a link to revisionist.org. I'm not necessarily opposed to this, but I do have a few questions: a) What is the history of link removal from FPP - not modification, like adding a NSFW, but under what circumstances are links actually removed? b) When a link is removed for political reasons, what is the rationale behind the removal? [mi]
Star Wars House Man comes into his own thread
Check it out - Gus somehow heard there was a thread about his crazy starwars filled house & he joined up to set a few things straight. That's the second time I've seen that happen in one of my threads, it's a cool testment to the visability of this place. Also, Matt, I will expect my $2.50, as we agreed.
Sketchbook sent around to artists thread...
SWM looking for a thread which features a sketchbook sent around to various artists, possibly from Canada.
"My comments": truncation causes truculence?
I'm not sure of this is a bug or a feature, but I've noticed that in "My Comments" long comments are cut off. If it's a bug: "Hey Matt, I found a bug!" If it's a feature...well I suppose I see the logic, so whatever.
If you don't like the post, at least tell me why.
What? Already. What are you people on about?
Can you be a more explicit in your sugestions for improving my post than just telling me it sucks? A hint, perhaps, to the nature of the suck, rather than just its degree?
