Searching for the Young Folk Rebels
Searching for an old post. It was a SLYT clip, if memory serves. I bellieve it was the introduction to a movie that featured three people (I think E. European gypsies) playing folk music in a field... [more inside]
Looking for a certain butter scuplture thread
Looking-for-an-old-thread filter. I remember a link to an article on the blue, talking about what exactly the Princess Kays do with their butter sculpture busts after they won. [more inside]

Looking for an old AskMe
Looking for an old AskMe question. Know who posted it and roughly when. Do I fail at the internet or was it deleted years after being posted? [more inside]
This is the future, I was promised perpetual motion machines!
I recall reading relatively recently (maybe within the past 3 months?) on the Blue about a comment listing some consequences if the law of Conservation of Energy is wrong. One of my coworkers just got into some "over-unity" nonsense, and I need to show him what for. I'm having some trouble Googling for it, or I wouldn't ask. Thanks in advance!
Tick. Tick. Tick.png
There's a repeating broken image on some AskMe tag search results pages. [more inside]
Boolean Tag Searching and Tag Redundancy
Pony/suggestion: What about being able to browse posts by multiple tags, but with OR as opposed to merely AND. This would mostly be to combat tag redundancy, but could also be useful in general. [more inside]

I wanted to point out a simply magnificent couple of comments about the Google Book Settlement by one of our members, grimmelm, or James Grimmelmann, as he’s know in the real world. [more inside]
Video / Cube mystery site?
I'm looking for a link that I'm pretty sure I found on MeFi, but searches are failing me. It was an all Flash site with a series of videos and documents connected together as a sort of flowchart. Viewing each of these revealed portions of a mystery. Videos were displayed on a cube, with different camera angles on different sides of the cube. Anyone remember what I'm talking about? Thanks.
Delist MeTa

Indexing tags for search
Small pony: MeFi search doesn't index tags. [more inside]
Search Through User's Activity?
Would it be possible to have a search box on Activity subpages -- in other words, a search function that limits itself to a single user's comments or posts? [more inside]
Great ask.me shoe answer -and- Search the sideblog?
I'm looking for a great ask.me answer about buying quality shoes that's probably several years old. There was an answer from a shoe store manager(owner?) that was very good, and I think it was sideblogged.
Which brings me to my 2nd question: Is the sideblog searchable?

How to search from
Is there a way to search within an AskMe category (e.g., Home and Garden)? I can't think of a unique enough keyword that would narrow it down under a few hundred questions, but I know the category. I know about tags; that's not helping me either. If this doesn't exist, can we make it so? [more inside]
SearchFu: guy flies into a pool.
There was a recent post of a video where a guy slides down the side of a hill, launches off a ramp & lands in a pool. I'm usually pretty good at this but my search-fu is failing me & I can't find it. Help?
Search results including number of comments?
A minor pony: on the search results page, can the number of comments for each post be included in the "posted by" line, the same way it is on the main page? [more inside]

Queries from the hive mind
I was experimenting with Google's search suggestions feature when I noticed that it gave some interesting results for "metafilter + [letter]". Since it returns the most popular search terms starting with that phrase, what you get for each letter is an A-Z listing of the most sought-after topics related to Metafilter. So without further ado, I give you... Metafilter A to Z. [more inside]
Sorting search results by number of favorites?
Pony request: We can already sort the posts and comments in search results by date or by relevance. Would it be possible (or even desirable) to sort by the number of favorites each item has? [more inside]
Play me off
Did I hallucinate a Metafilter comment? I remember reading the line "Play him hither, Lute Cat" on Metafilter recently and though it was so hilarious I needed to illustrate it. I wanted to give credit to the original commenter, but I can't for the life of me find the comment. All my styles of google-fu have failed me. Did this comment actually exist?
Relevancy Calculation?
Would it be possible to alter the "sort by relevance" option on the search function to include how often the requested term was used in the comments/responses? [more inside]
Clickable Comments in AskMe Search
I am missing something? When I search for something in AskMe, I sometimes see a comment (under the comments tab), or an excerpt from a comment, that I might want to explore by, say, clicking on said comment and viewing the entire post. Is there a simple way to do this? Am I missing an obvious link to the comment(s) in context?
(Also, suggestions on asking about this without saying "comment" so many times are appreciated)

Why it's rational to believe what scientists say
I'm looking for a comment on Mefi or AskMe where someone gave an extended quote from a scientist/commentator (maybe Richard Feynman), explaining why it's rational for a layperson to believe what scientists say, even if you haven't figured out the mechanics of how they arrived at their conclusions. The gist was that it's sufficient just to know that the scientists are generally skilled at figuring things out. (That's probably oversimplifying, which is why I want to find the actual passage.) Bug in search engine with two-character usernames
Mefi search doesn't seem to handle very short (specifically, two character) usernames correctly. [more inside]
Why "Filters" before questions?
This is probably obvious, which is why I couldn't find it in the FAQ or the search. Why do people preface their questions with "[blank] filter:"? Does it help future searches and RSS filters?

Not sure what to search for
Yeah. I know this makes me seem wildly stupid, but... I was trying to post a question on AskMe. I wanted to post it anonomously. (It was a medical question.) But I couldn't figure it out. I either had to post under my pseudonym, or I had to get a new account.
That can't be right?
Post Ident Please

"similar questions" as a search tool

Accessing the scan of existing posted URLS
My blushes at making a duplicate post to the blue have been spared more than once by the code which scans my proposed URLs and looks to see it there is an existing match. Phew! However I have only ever found a way of accessing this facility after having first of all composed a post to the point where I can preview it - hence wasting quite a lot of time. Is there a way to access this scan directly?

No "Search" link on the blue anymore?
What happened to the "Search" link on the front page of the blue? I apologize if this has been covered in the recent threads about new search features in other areas (and please direct me there if this is the case), but I just noticed that the "Search" link in the blue - which I used frequently - is gone).
