Pony: All posts by user suchandsuch tagged soandso? As it is, on a user's posting page, there's a list of frequently-used tags, but if you follow the links, you get all posts so tagged, when what you might expect (and even, in some cases, want) is just that user's posts so tagged. posted by kenko to Feature Requests at 12:09 PM PST - 8 comments
I found a great page that has been posted on another high profile community. That page is a .swf image I wish to print in a large size. I had planned on posting on Askme on how to do this.
I also find the image cool (and informative) enough that I thought it would be great material for The Blue-though I have reservations about posting it on both pages. Additionally this page was just shown on digg.com, so it may be old hat anyway.
All I'm saying is that sometimes people don't always know exatly how they'd like to express themselves. AXMETATILTER RULES ALL THE OTHER BITCHES! jesadmin is AWESOME and LAME at the same time. I love her contribution, but I do agree that the CHATFILTER has been kind of out of control. I'm drunk, and I want to fight. Seriously, though, I don;t have any problem with anone. hi. i've just found out about an upcoming symposium series that i think would really be appealing to the sort of folks that frequent metafilter. however, the event is taking place next week here in toronto, and therefore people not-in-toronto might not care. is this kosher? i can spice the post up with links to interesting projects from previous years if that would make it not suck. posted by sergeant sandwich to Etiquette/Policy at 11:31 PM PST - 14 comments

Could we get a clean-up in this thread? It was a perfectly valid MetaFilter post that had a phrasing that simply asked for discussion. It nonetheless met the guidelines and should be allowed to remain without all the noise of whether or not it belongs in the blue or green. Asking for discussion is only wrong in that it's redundant. Discussion will most likely occur whether or not the post is framed as a question. So the original poster's only mistake, IMHO, was mentioning the inevitable. posted by SeizeTheDay to Etiquette/Policy at 7:26 AM PST - 41 comments
This user links to his own blog in six answers from the thirteen he has provided for other AskMe users, including recommending his own blog as one of his favourites. His only comment on the blue links to his blog. I am reluctant to bring this up as the answers he provides are generally helpful, on the other hand he seems more likely to help if he can link to his website. I guess Matt can decide is this is insidious spamming or not. posted by fire&wings to Etiquette/Policy at 5:05 AM PST - 8 comments

When is it OK to point out something that may be very important even if it does not directly address an AskMe? This post is from a person who acknowledges "borrowing" a neighbor's open WiFi connection. I would like to know if MeTa thinks I was out of line in posting this and this. The resulting response bothers me. I tried to be both helpful and understanding that she may be unaware of potential legal issues with "borrowing" wifi, and gave protective advice to her about being safe when she gets her own WiFi, too. Am I guilty of a derail, or is this kind of discourse acceptable on AskMe? posted by twiggy to Etiquette/Policy at 1:50 PM PST - 92 comments
I'd like to point out that FeedRinse is a wonderful tool for filtering web feeds that are produced by multiple authors. It filters out posts if they contain certain terms. I've already created a couple of MeFi channels. This one filters: pepsi, israel, religion, newsfilter, congress, fitz, rove, federal, eff, google and perjury. This feed filters the terms I've outlined already, plus the words 'iraq' and 'apple'. And this Metatalk feed filters the following terms: video, flag, dios, spoiler, delete, chatfilter, pony and editorializing. I thought about adding the term 'ban' to that one but sometimes those posts are *too* entertaining. posted by gsb to MetaFilter-Related at 6:25 AM PST - 25 comments

When is the best time for a UK mefite to post in Askme for a quick response. I'd assume this would involve establishing the area/timezone the majority of me-fites are in and when they logon / read and respond. Where are you and when do all y'all "check in" or do your posting?
The Eurovision post had the winner's name in the title. Could there not have been some consideration for people living in countries where it is has not been shown yet?

The fantastic new Favorites feature has made me realize I have a poll/chatfilter dilemma. I've always supported the policy of deleting stupid "what's your favorite color, I'll go first, I like blue" questions, but I've been trolling the site marking my favorites and it turns out that so very many of what I consider Mefi's finest moments are also very, very chatty.

I don't want to FPP this follow-up. I want to call it to thirteenkiller's attention. I think thirteenkiller has already researched this once and may want to follow up with another really swell post (I sure liked the first one).
Displaying users who have marked Anonymous questions in AskMe as a favorite is potentially revealing of who Anonymous was in that instance. It is also potentially harmful, both to users who mark such questions as a favorite, as well as to future discourse at Metafilter in general. So I suggest that we remove the list at the start of the thread of those who marked an Anonymous question as a favorite. I'd love to see a "conclusion" feature to many of the askme questions. For instance, even if it's months later, I could go into a question I asked and mark it "concluded" and give a quick summary of what happened when I followed the advice.
Once someone marks something "concluded" it would go to its own "conclusions" RSS feed, which we could subscribe to if we want to know "the rest of the story" on many of the questions asked. posted by visual mechanic to Feature Requests at 9:13 AM PST - 42 comments

Why not explain on the AskMe "Post a New Question" page that the Headline/Title will *not* show up on the main page? I have seen lots of questions in the past where the Headline/Title contains the question and the question text lacks context and looks odd on its own. Example. I think a few clarifying words about how visitors will not see the Headline/Title when browsing AskMe's main pages will help people word their questions more appropriately. posted by apple scruff to Feature Requests at 2:13 PM PST - 17 comments

I would love to see a feature on AskMeFi that similar to the way best answers become highlighted, so does the person who asked the questions subsequent comments. I'm working on favorites and releasing what I have today. Think of favorites as an internal bookmark system, a way to keep a list of the good questions, great comments, or interesting ideas you've found here.
Right now, you can mark a thread on mefi, metatalk, or ask mefi as a favorite, and view it at the link in the header above (is the header too wide for small monitors?). All your stuff marked as a favorite is public and anyone else can see the stuff you've marked (this comes in handy later on).
I'll be adding the ability to flag comments later today and very soon I'll be doing something akin to the fantastic posts page on Ask MeFi, where the most favorited things over the past few days is highlighted on a single page. posted by mathowie to Feature Requests at 9:22 AM PST - 100 comments
How about a round of applause for skygazer, missing member of mefi swapset grey from 11/05 who not only finally sent along the CDs, but included a short handwritten note, a tiny toy gun, an even smaller piece of black licorice, a guitar string, and a particularly meaningful (to me at least) blank postcard of early concept designs of the space shuttle.
All of this arrived in the mail in the midst of particularly bad week, so to receive a bit of human sharedness and new music to discover from a total stranger was great. Pony request, in light of this thread -- flagging options include "noise", "derail" or "doesn't follow the guidlines" but it seems to me AskMe requires another option, kind of an opposite to "fantastic post" -- how about adding "Doesn't answer the question"?

I took a wee break from AskMefi because whilst I enjoyed asking and answering questions, I thought it such a bore that some users took advantage of the forum just to voice their half-baked, belligerent opinions that really did nothing to answer the question in hand.
