Please oh please - view user's posted topics pony
Please oh please make it possible to view all of a given user's posted topics. Perhaps a link to the link on the user's profile page?
Too many categories, not enough stats
1. these forums are too small to have so many different categories, a single metatalk forum might be better
2. this should go in feature requests, but see above: I would love to see stats, on the site, on links, on users. it's one of the best things about weblogs, and if this is a community weblog, then how about tables and tables of statistics?

Call for MetaBozoFilter
Matt, you wonderful dear sweet MetaAdministrator, I respectfully submit that the time has come to put the Filter in MetaFilter. Yes, I'm talking about MetaBozoFilters...and I think many, many people would support you in those efforts. Let me know what I can do to help.
Can we search for links?
We can search for specific text, but is it possible to expand the search capability to include sites linked to? (Search for any links to www.whatadeal.org/foo/ for example.) This would help in determining if something is a repeated link or not.
New Comments Only
I tread warily here, but... Matt, you've been working on customisation and filtering, have you considered a preference that would display only new items? I've looked at the current Prefs page and don't see it, nor do I think it's come up in these threads discussing the filtering feature set (obvious apologies if I'm walking back over old, tired ground...).
A simple boolean should be enough to get started with this:
[ ] Show me only thread that have new comments
I'm assuming that you either consider a new thread to automatically be a new comment as well in the back end, or that you can relatively easily do so. Since the db already "knows" what we've read, you'd be screening us from any threads that have had no activity. The benefit would be to allow setting the "show number of days" up higher to track discussions you are interested in, without having to wade through the many, many threads that have their day or two in the MeFi sun and then go the way of all things.

I'd like to request an expansion on the profiles feature in MetaFilter
Profiles... It just occurred to me that I need a scorecard to keep track of everyone in here. I'd like to request an expansion on the profiles feature in MetaFilter. [more]
New comments by category
Matt--
As near as I can tell, the sort-to-top on the Metatalk front is by new threads, not new comments. Which is fine. However, I would like some kind of flag to know if a category (such as "weblog grab bag) has new comments since the last time I was here. It wouldn't have to be detailed. I'm thinking along the lines of a "new comments" column next to each category on the front page, with a yes/no value.
Or whatever, you're the designer I'm the one who thought black and neon green was a good color scheme.

I'd like to be able to preview posts and can the br tag be collapsed?
Someone already suggested the ability to preview posts (comments as well as new threads), so I'll second that. If it annoys people, you can make it an optional preview (preview button next to the post).
Related: MetaFilter inserts
tags on carraige returns blindly, and I tend to forget this and put them in myself. I was wondering if, after interpolation, more than two br tags could automatically collapse to just two, maybe with intelligent handling of paragraph tags as well. Maybe I'm the only one that makes mistakes like that, but nobody needs anything more than two line breaks anyway.
But the post preview would probably be sufficient.

A user longs for killfiles
I'm sure it's been mentioned before, though I couldn't find it in the "view all days" view---even so I'd like to renew any request for a "don't ever bother me with this user's posts again" toggle. Much as I hate it I think comments should be left alone for continuity inside a thread, but blocking links would be good. There's no way to *make* people stop messing with the s/n, but if I don't have to see them doing it I can pretend.
(It's so easy to make these requests, it's not MY time and I don't even know Cold Fusion. heh.)

A double request: dragging entire threads into Metatalk and provisions for self-linking.
A suggestion for you, Matt. You might consider adding some easy way for you to move topics lock, stock and barrel, comments and all, from MetaFilter to MetaTalk. Then politely leave a link behind saying you've done it.
And having an enormous ego and desire for self-aggrandizement, I think you should have a section here in MetaTalk for people to post things about their websites. I have some things coming up I wouldn't mind the entire universe knowing about (as opposed to both people who come to my site), but I won't be so rude as to drop it into MetaFilter.

May I humbly suggest a timer for individual posts...
May I humbly suggest a timer for individual posts. Err, that isn't very clear. Lately there's been a rash of people posting 2 or three small items in a row which, imho, really thins out the collective attention on MF which leads to more sparse threads.
What if each user was only allowed to post one new topic per 20 minutes? Or any arbitrary time period really...
Perhaps this should be a feature request?

I think it would be cool if Metafilter was themeable
I think it would be cool if Metafilter was themeable. It might be a little difficult to program, but I know it's doable. I would like to see something other than BLUE when I come here.
Can we configure our own sidebar?
I think it would be neat if you could program the side floating panel- to be configurable- so that we could choose the links that we wanted in their or add our own- via the configuration page. I'm not a coder by any means, so I don't know how difficult it would be, but I wanted to air my idea.
stories and days
I'd love it if you could choose the number of stories as well as number of days. Then, If the number of stories in the timeframe selected is greater than the max number of stories allowed, only display the number allowed. There are always those weeks where 20 stories are posted every day, and then those weeks where it's closer to five/day.
And, um.. MeFi is kind of slow in dishin' the pages sometimes...

No edit feature was forthcoming
The horror! From the ether of the Internet they came. Words misspelled, tags not closed. And there was carnage, and suffering, and the people cried out to The Haghey for an edit feature.
But the serpent Sikk had gained favor in The MetaFilter court, and Haughey hardened his heart. No edit feature was forthcoming.
And the carnage continued. Three score and 4 posters died from shame, all for want of a forgotten pronoun. Again the people cried out to The Haughey. If not an edit feature, why not a preview feature.
But The Haughey would hear none of it. "If I grant you a preview, the Ticket Stubs shall never be done". And thus the MetaFilterites suffered.
Eeep! To much of that wacky god stuff. Anyway, thanks to the magic of bookmarklets, and the incompetence of my managers, (a few weeks of lag time right now, followed by two weeks of non stop overtime work), I present the Preview bookmarklet.
Drag the link to you links toolbar, (just like Deepleap, but without the Sexy Motherfucker), type you comment, and then use the bookmarklet. You post will be previewed in a brand new window. The bookmarklet will work on any page with a single form and single textarea.
It's not quite perfect, I'm not sure what HTML Matt does and doesn't allow, plus my brain hurts too much to grep out the line breaks right now. Also, I didn't feel like dissecting the entire Metafilter style sheet, so your colors and spacing may be a bit off. Let me know if you run into any problems (it's only been tested on the PC side).
Hey, it's free. Deal.

Customize link color pony!
Matt, in the customize section, could you also make it so that one can customize the link colours? I'd really like to change the links from yellow to say orange. Not sure how hard it would be, but it would be a nice addition. Thanks...
"The URL you are about to post was found in 1 other post(s)." (2000)
I'd like it if, when you're previewing a topic you're about to post, metafilter says something like:
The URL you are about to post was found in 1 other post(s).
lorem ipsum sit amet..
Go to the detail view for this result
please check the thread(s) above to make sure you're not duplicating a previous post.

new posts, new comments
It Would Be Nice If, from the Meta topic page, you could see the "new posts, new comments" numbers for the individual topic pages (especially if that included a flag for any place you'd been followed up).
Sometimes I'm just keeping up with my own patch, sometimes, I have *time* to be looking for new stuff.

I'm easily amused.
Something like this would please me immensely:

Duplicate Link Pony Request
So when's that feature gonna come to negate repeat links? There've been two posts today -- last page on net, Simpsons bootlegs -- that have been reruns of things we've seen within the last month.
http:// and thee: save some broken links
Matt, if you pre-filled the value of the input element next to "URL" with "http://" then we'd probably end up with fewer broken links.
