MeFi Captcha
Apologies if this is redundant, but Yahoo's search revealed nothing about the look-n-feel of the MeFi captcha.
Metafilter's captcha is particularly irritating. Of the few sites I use that require it, this one is by far the worst. Many of the characters are ambiguous because they use a sans-serif font—combined with the size and font variation, letters like C, O, W become hard to distinguish when their cases change. And this is me being selfish—there's still the nagging problem that these are very inaccessible.
I realize (and read the thread on) why you installed one, and realize Matt-n-Co are busy creatures, and perhaps the alternatives aren't great right now. But sites like TicketBastard, Yahoo, and PayPal all use much less ambiguous, much more human-parsable captchas, and presumably have orders of magnitude more traffic than MeFi—so these must have worked pretty well so far.
Wikipedia has a list of alternatives for a variety of languages.

New Keystroke Features
New features added to the keystrokes: hit return to go into a thread, hit ; to go back to the index page. (you might have to force a reload to get the latest javascript).
Can we have pictures of ourselves?
With meetups gearing up, and an eventual section to handle this being engineered (did I read that right?) - would it make sense to have an area that allowed/promoted users to upload (links to) images of themselves?
Can we have access to older pages in My Comments?
Could we get a tweak on our 'My Comments' pages to look further back than the current default, on demand? A 'Page 2' link at the bottom for the next X threads back in time, maybe? Or a customizable period (within reason) on our preferences page?
Ask Metafilter's FAQs in a sidebar
Just an observation: the question which DSLR to buy comes around so often on the green, with the same answers usually (understandably, but predictably) given, that I'm beginning to think there ought to be a sidebar of such frequently asked questions (or maybe mathowie ought to sign up for an Adorama affiliate program).
Can we add title attribute to links?
Pony Request: Could the title attribute be added automatically to links generated from the link button on the posts/comments toolbar? It wouldn't have to have any default text in it, but it would make people aware of its existence, which they could then use to reduce the large number of mystery links we see in posts/comments.
More Fantastic Comments Please
"Fantastic comments" make good reading. Why can I only read the last ten? Is it just a technical issue, or is there a worry that a permanent archive will result in competition?
(and if so, is competition that encourages people to write fantastic comments really such a bad idea?)

More styled CSS for some HTML elements, such as blockquote
Slightly better CSS: Could the CSS for useful elements like blockquote be improved so that quoted text from previous posts does not have to be faked with ? A now-common style of changed font, larger left indent, and line down the left side might work.
"My contacts" link on header?
Pony: Can a "My contacts" link be added next to "My posts" and "My comments"? I like the "My contacts" feature, but I don't use it that often because I have to get to it via my user page, which I can only access from the main pages, not thread pages, so I tend to forget about it. I'd use it more if it was a one click thing in the header.
Anonymous Replies for AskMe For Several Hours?
Anonymous posting: time-limited cookies to enable anonymous to reply to their own threads for N hours? Perhaps tied to logins? It seems like the "anonymous" nom de plume really only needs to be a setting that is applied when a thread is marked as such and the original poster is replying. Since most of these questions are for personal, medical, or other advice that usually need more input (perhaps to triangulate its position), it seems useful.
AskMe Fantastic Posts
My wife and I adopted a black, infant girl. It's not specific to iPods. There is no shrinkage.
The "fantastic answers" section of the Recent Fantastic Posts page of AskMeFi is confusing without context.... could the actual question (the short version) be printed, small, above each fantastic answer?

Can we have a changelog?
Would it be feasible to have an admin-only message board, maybe in the sidebar? There are enough postings where #1 explains the addition or removal of a feature to merit some kind ot tracking.
I guess what I want is a Meta-Changelog (say, changes.metafilter.com?) that could just be a plain-text, "on this date there was..." sort of list.
Or, there's always the ubiquitous RSS feed.
How about it? Simple pony?

Dear mathowie, your plans?
What is your project/plan of features on mefi matt?

Mefi Bug Tracker
I suggest implementing a bug tracking system for MetaFilter to track all the bugs and feature requests.
You could use for example the HELPNEEDED tag for things you might need help fixing. You can set priorities on bugs so that the most important and urgent problems will be fixed first. You can set WONTFIX for features that you aren't going to implement, and that way people will know not to bug you about the issue. You can enable voting for bugs and feature requests so you'll have a better idea of where to focus your efforts, you could easily assign small issues to jessamyn, etc.

Voting on Metafilter Projects?
Now that the contest is over, what is the point of having voting on Metafilter Projects? Anyone who wants to post the project to the front page can do so—no matter how many votes there are—and in most cases, having comments there instead of voting could provide the poster with valuable criticism and advice.
Is it just the worry that people will write mean things about the projects?

"near users" for a given coordinate
I'd like to use the "near users" feature to see users near a given coordinate. [more inside]
Time zone fix?
TimezonePony .... It's that time of the year again. Instead of showing the false EST/PST/etc standard timezone stamps, can the system be tweaked to either show the correct EDT/PDT/etc, or at least ET/PT/etc? Cue snarks.
Indicating fantastic questions and answers
Idea: how about indicating fantastic questions and answers in the same way as best answers? [more inside]
Avoiding bad links
In the comment box, after clicking the link icon (or Ctrl-Shift-A), and pressing the Escape button, it shouldn't insert a "null" link, but just cancel adding the link.
Add a fantastic flag scoreboard to profiles
Idea: Add links to a person's fantastic posts/comments/answers to their profile pages, as a kind of personal scoreboard.
Been wondering how to give people "attaboys" for good commentary and answers. Why not list these accomplishments on their profile pages? I did some searches, and the idea has been proposed before, but I can't find a similar suggestion that's more recent than four years ago.
Profiles already have links to a person's posts, and if I drill down I can see which ones have been flagged as fantastic -- so why not put this front and center on the profiles?

Projects functionality: update please
Projects - any plans for recording in the user profle what you have voted on, tagging, or a decent search function? For the first time I'm trying to remember something I enjoyed and voted on, but can't find the tools with which to find it.
Historical engineering
If the admins are going to delete comments then at least delete any responses to those comments and the collateral damage. It has more finesse, although I guess it would take more time, but that's the price of historical engineering. Yes, it was my comment that was deleted. That's fine, I don't mind that at all, and I'm sorry for the mess.
my little comment ponies
Matt, can you add some more class to your comment HTML so that independent scripts such as my Comment script and MeFi Navigator have a more assured chance of cohabitating? [by a fluke there turned out to be no fatal interactions]
Also, the best way to quote comments is with a DIV. Can you make this possible? [more inside]

Easy thread monitoring, without throwaway comments?
Whatever happened to the idea that soon we'd be able to flag a thread as "watch," so that one doesn't have to post some crappy comment just to ensure the thread appears in one's "My Comments" list? There are many threads I wish to monitor, and few I wish to actually comment upon.
List of your top ten answered tags from AskMe?
Tags: User profiles show "Top ten tags used on Ask MetaFilter posts" -- which is neat!, but would it maybe be really neat if there were a "Top ten tags used on Ask MetaFilter answers"? I know that what I've asked about and what I've answered to are in pretty different realms.
We aren't really getting the Jabber server back, are we?

Profile page answer counts shouldn't include follow-ups.
I think that in the profile pages, the answer count for Ask MetaFilter should exclude the user's own comments in their own questions.
Feedback system for flagging so I can see that it has some result
Feedback System for Flagging: Everytime someone posts a callaout to MeTa, the usual response is "flag it and move on", which is great in theory, but there's absolutely no feedback by doing that. A page that lists everything we've flagged and the respective follow-up. (Please note, these responses could be automatically generated based on the current status of the post/comment) Examples:
Comemnt #129382 - Flagged as: Offensive - Result: Flag noted by admin but ignored.
Post #129834 - Flagged as: Duplicate - Result: Post Deleted
Post #149493 - Flagged as: Excellent - Result: Added to sidebar
I think if users could see that flagging actually has some effect, they might be less liable to whine about it in MeTa Callouts.

"Post Comment/Preview If There Are New Comments"
Pony: In addition to "Post Comment" or "Preview", I'd like a "Post Comment/Preview If There Are New Comments." Live Preview is enough for slow-moving threads, but in fast-moving this would be really handy, and I imagine less server-intensive than Preview.
Remind me when I can ask another question
A pony: When AskMe says "you already asked a question this week", can it tell me the time and date that I'm eligible to start a new question?
Comments Text-Box Width
Ponyfilter: It'd be really nice if the 'Comments' entry box could be the full width of the browser. MeFi does an excellent job in handling widescreen monitors in all respects but that one. [bit more inside]
Links Of Interest idea
I occasionally see something funny or mildly interesting that I'd like to post. But I don't want to post to the front page for a small item, like a game, video, or a friend-of-a-friend's funny caption. Is there room, for, or interest in, a sidebar for Links Of Interest, with limited text, and maybe no comments? [mi]
MeFi on Counterstrike?
Can we have a Metafilter Counterstrike 1.6 server? I think that would be pretty sweet.
Feature Request: Handheld stylesheets.

Close Signups, Please
Dear Matt: If enough of us bitch loudly enough, will you close signups?
Pony Request: Changes to super/subscript CSS
Improvements to CSS.
Connection timeout issues
still getting "connection timeout members". if it can't be fixed, perhaps just remove the line? it's not very meaningful anyway.
scroll-to-named-anchor code
The new moo.fx includes some scroll-to-named-anchor code which I'd love to see in threads here when you click on an anchor link back to another person's comment, used when quoting them inthread. At the moment, it opens a new tab (for me), and rarely actually finds the right place in the page. I realize that's a browser shortcoming, not Matt's fault, of course. Anyway, it's not a new idea but it's easy to implement now with stuff like moo. Just an idea.
Can the checkmark for best answer be a link?
Can we make this a link: ? Cuz I always try to click on it whenever I see it, and it's driving me a little nuts. And it would be super convenient and save me a little scrolling when I just want to see the Best Answer. Yeah. Ponies!
Jabber server return date?
What's the ETA for the MetaFilter Jabber Server coming back up?
Can we RSS for posts and comments?
It would be cool to have RSS feeds on a per user basis. I'm thinking mainly posts but comments would be fine too. Something like http://www.metafilter.com/username.mefi/user/posts.rss and http://www.metafilter.com/username.mefi/user/comments.rss. It'd be a great way to keep up with people whose stuff you enjoy (like everyone's favorite) w/o getting lost in the volume.
who posted this? and, favorites foreshadowed
A couple of things:
1) When people view your profile and links to answers posted on mefi and such, it looks more like you've posted the question - this seems a little odd, could the actual comments be linked instead (I know they're accessible by clicking on the date, it just seems a slightly unintuitive way of doing it).
2) Mefi and ask.mefi have some GREAT posts on there that I'd love to be able to bookmark within Metafilter (part of my profile maybe?). An example, lots of ask.mefi questions are just damned useful, and I'd like to have a place where I could go and you could see "BishopsLoveSciFi's favourite questions / answers / FPPs".
If it makes it any clearer, think of it working like memories on LJ. (See this FAQ item if you're not an LJer.)

Suggested Feature: Subscribe to Posts
I would love a feature that allows you to "subscribe" to certain posts, coupled with the ability to view all "subscribed" posts. This way it would be easier to track the progress of certain threads that you do not participate in (you can obviously track those threads through the "my comments" page.
New flags?
A couple of new flagging categories that might be handy:
Pony request: notification when a certain tag is used
PonyFilter... Would it be possible to get a notification either as email (probably hard to do) or on the my comments page when an ask.mefi or metafilter post uses a certain tag. [more inside]
Any chance that coComment support could be added?
[pony] Any chance that coComment support could be added to to ?(ask.|metatalk.|projects.)metafilter.com? RSS feeds of comment responses sure would be spiffy. Instructions are here.
Usernames Instead of Numbers
Pony: any chance of having the ability to look up a user by appending their username name to the "/user/" URL? The user number is okay, but being able to have the name as well would be really helpful.
