why are racist questions allowed on netatalk

So it's cool to post racist and stereotypical trolls to ask.me now? When did the rules change?

This is not what AskMe is for.

Can we simply answer the question, rather than snarking or preaching? Thanks!

Cultural Biases In Education

To what extent should teachers incorporate their own biases into their teaching of youngish children? To what extent does using goofy picture of people do so? [more inside]

Waiting is not an option.

Telling anonymous to wait to test when they have specifically requested pre-birth paternity testing methods does not "help in finding an answer". [more inside]

No snark here.

LOLMORMONS

Come on y'all this is embarassing. I don't think anyone would appreciate getting their religion bashed this way and Mormon's LOVE that man. Believe me, I know some. Totally uncalled for.

Is this something I'd have to have a Metafilter account to know about?

Users commenting just to say they haven't heard of the topic of discussion is 100% noise and garbage. [more inside]

Nothing and Nthing

Whence Nthing? Isn't the word "seconding" meant to include multiple votes of support? Is this something peculiar to Ask Metafilter?

Don't Post MeMail In Threads

Don't post MeMail to a thread without the explicit permission of the sender. Like this. This is so very no on so many levels.

etymology questions OK?

Every now and again there's an etymology question on AskMe, and lately they inevitably feature the beloved languagehat popping in to warn people that speculation is pointless and that the only valid answers are to be found in reference books. (not bookist) [more inside]

All I am saying, is give posts a chance

At first I was kinda surprised the video in 67602 got dumped on in comments. There is nothing intrinsically bad here. It's actually rather professionally done, it feels very much like something that was produced for television. I strongly suspect the fault here is with the FPP. [more inside]

ND¢'s two cents cause a shitstorm. News at 11.

ND¢, generally I really like you, but it's clear that you are being a dick for the sake of being a dick, notwithstanding your attempts at justifying that as your real and valid opinion. All you had to say was "yeah, maybe my joke was a little offside" and no one here would have busted your balls over it. Just be a decent human being with a little respect and understanding and things don't have to turn into a shitpile.

Followup FPPs?

A couple of times this week I've run across links that had significant new information on stories that made the Blue recently enough to still be active. By themselves they don't feel meaty enough to merit a new FPP, but if I just tack them at the end of the old FPP it feels like wasted effort that nobody's likely to see. [more inside]

Occasionally links without any real description are posted to the front page. It would be nice if any user could add a short description that would appear when you moused over the link, so users don't have to click on eight different links to find out what a post is about. [more inside]

ok, flag it as crap we know you want to. But do we both need you flagging it as crap and then posting a crap "flagged as crap" message in the allegedly crappy thread? Comment should be flagged as masturbatory noise.

Belittling me only dwarfs my concerns.

Since Metafilter seems to be a self-policing paragon of sensitivity with regard to body type issues, I am genuinely curious as to why cracking jokes about those who are, say, modest in stature, is totally wink-wink "I'm just giving you shit" fine? [more inside]

regulation

Recently jessamyn rushed to edit the title of an Ask Metafilter question, changing it from "Nice bag that isn't gay" to simply "Nice bag." Today, on Metafilter, there is "It's harder than you think to differentiate between what's gay and what's High School Musical." Why is one offensive, and one is not, if they both reference ideas that are generally accepted as being attractive to gay men?
