Is it me, or has MeFi been infected with "honey" recently? It seems as though in the past week or so, every thread I go into has someone referring to another poster as "honey" or "hon" -- a term that I find startlingly condescending (with overtones of ageism and sexism, to boot).

hmmmm... why is
this here, and what does it mean that there are NO comments?
I saw this post earlier today, checked the link, and, frankly, had a "what the heck moment", I couldn't think of a single comment about that movie that made any sense...and, then, I wondered what would happen to this post, it just felt, well,
odd in some way.
I got busy and never got back to it until now (7 hours or so later), and it STILL has no comments.
How often does it happen that a post garners NO comments, yet remains on the site? Because we can't or won't discuss it, does it necessarily make it a bad post, or unfit, in some way, for MetaFilter? Just curious....

Since yesterday, I haven't been seeing the comment count in the RSS feeds anymore. I've tried in the main metafilter feed and in the popular posts feed. Is it a bug, an oversight, a suppressed pony? Is it just me? Thanks for listening.

There was a recent post of a video where a guy slides down the side of a hill, launches off a ramp & lands in a pool. I'm usually pretty good at this but my search-fu is failing me & I can't find it. Help?

I'm wondering if we should add a "History" category to Ask Me? I posted
this today, and was surprised to find that we don't have this category choice. I wavered between "Grab Bag" and "Society and Culture" and finally went with the latter, though my impression of that category is that it's meant to address quite different, mostly contemporary questions... and checking past questions seems to affirm that it's not a great fit, though probably the best we have.

I can see the favorites
this comment has, and it shows up in my side bar because it was made by a contact, but the comment has been deleted.

It's late and maybe I'm not thinking this one through enough but all of a sudden ask.metafilter.com redirects an ip that seems to be owned by opendns hosting a page that looks an awful lot like the google homepage:
PING metafilter.com (174.132.172.58): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 174.132.172.58: icmp_seq=0 ttl=111 time=81.331 ms
PING metafilter.com (208.69.36.231): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 208.69.36.231: icmp_seq=0 ttl=54 time=71.790 ms
Is this just me going crazy behind my gritty contacts or has anyone else had this problem tonight?

Idea: the Metafilter link-checker. Take the part of the 'new post' process that double-checks against prior posts, add the part of Mefi that conjures up the related posts, put a link to the feature up on the two lines of links near the logo.

I can't post a comment to Projects. OSX 10.5.7 Safari 4.0.1 and Firefox 2.0.0.14. The comment previews okay but after hitting post it returns an empty text input box and no comment is posted.

Did we really need to delete
this FPP just because various defenders of MeFis indie street cred shat in this thread and presumably flagged it a lot? That's kind of a shame, because other people were enjoying it.

(Mobile) pony requests:
1. It'd be nice if commenting was enabled from the mobile site.
2. How about a "load more" link on the section pages so that we can get to older posts more easily.
3. This is a bit more pie in the sky, but it would be great if internal links were rewritten to point to the mobile equivalent.
I know the mobile site is a bit of a ghetto in terms of attention, but it really is a fantastic way to get my fix.

A minor pony: on the search results page, can the number of comments for each post be included in the "posted by" line, the same way it is on the main page?

Let me know if this is the wrong forum, but in
this AskMeFi thread the OP apparently executed a script someone wrote him. Judging from one of this follow-up comments, he had no knowledge of Windows batch files. I'm a little disturbed. Am I paranoid?

Two little flag ponies: after flagging a post or comment, can the text be elaborated beyond [Flagged], maybe [Flagged as Fantastic/ Noise/ Derail/ Etc]? I worry about mis-flagging items. Also, I often forget what I've flagged in the past, can we have personal, private histories of flags? Or are profiles either viewable to the public or MeFites, w/o options for personal views?

When, if ever, is it appropriate to bring up someone's past posts or comments? Does the etiquette vary by subsite (green/blue/gray)? This isn't a callout; I just haven't seen it discussed here.

Where's the Sept 11, 2001 live thread? MeFiFu failing me. It remains probably the best thing on the web about the event.

this is just to say that I thought the deletion of
this post was on the whole spot on about the quality of the post, but i still think that the discussion/thread that was generated from the post perhaps was good enough to outshine the fact that the post lacks the due diligence of a metafilter front page post.

The faq says there are greasemonkey scripts that try to track deleted comments. Is there anything working? I couldn't find anything following the link. The deletions here are so regular it's like using the internet from China.

A while ago I did a post on group Where-The-Wild-Things-Are tribute blog
Terrible Yellow Eyes. They're now having
an exhibition for those lucky enough to live in LA, should you want to see some of the great artworks in person. I have no idea if any are for sale, I suspect not what with copyrights etc.

I'm calling out
deanc and
kldickson and anyone else who is trying to justify discounting everyone in a so-called "conservative area" simply because the place in which people live is not part of one of the major coastal urban zones which liberals are convinced are their sole bastion within the United States.

I'm sorry, but did someone just
post that Gypsies are raised as criminals and have no moral values? Not just a literary allusion to lower-class itinerants, he calls out the Romani by name - the same Romani slaughtered by the million by the Third Reich for being a race of evil criminals. And it gets ten favorites? Really?

Just curious... why are the "Meta" and "Filter," "Meta" and "Talk," and etc. identifiers at the top left of each page discrete clickable elements instead of one clickable element comprising the entire compound word?
