Unposted Anonymous AskMes on contacts page

I, like many people, have added Anonymous AskMetaFilter as a contact, due to his/her interesting, thought-provoking, often sex-related questions and complete self-restraint when it comes to making snarky comments.

However, I noticed a weird phenomenon. On my contacts page, I see several anonymous questions that link to deleted/nonexistant posts. These do not show up in "Anonymous AskMeFi"'s posting history, and I never saw them on the AskMe page. Did they ever appear on the main page? Is there a reason they are still visible from my contacts page?

Is this because I'm new?

Help! I can't set up links within my comments. Beneath the comment box I only have Preview and Spellcheck: no link button, no bold, no italics. Is this because I'm new? I sure would like to be able to link to things to, you know, back up my comments. Thanks for your help!

from looking at this thread, hoder mentioned a thread that (presumably) I made and that was deleted. I tried to go to the page in question, http://www.metafilter.com/mefi/35470, and got a "connection failure" notice. What's up wit dat, yo?

Possible race condition in AskMe's new post count.

New post count might have some sort of race condition in AskMe:

I think the second comment might have been posted in that split second between querying the total and counting up the new posts.

Atom feed error report and query on source in flat file generation

The MeFi atom feed is throwing an error; does this perhaps have something to do with the flat file generation stuff?

Metafilter.com without the www won't load for me.

Matt's "photos" page

So, I was bored today checking out http://a.wholelottanothing.org/ and I stumbled across Matt's "photos" page. I think I recall looking at his photo page in the past. However, now, it just redirects to the regular metafilter website. I know the *.metafilter.com urls redirect to the regular metafilter website, but was this to be an exception?

Am I the only one getting this error?

Does anyone else get a "No Harddisk in Drive" error in Mozilla when you try to follow the main link in this thread? I don't get that error on the other link in the post, or any of the other links on the blue.

Why was my comment deleted?

Is there a reason why my really innocuous comment in this thread was deleted? I think I said something like, "Ahhh, the benefits of the scientific method...", or some-such nonsense...

Just wondering if I did something wrong ... or did something go kablooie?

Mefi coldfusion error

When I try to get onto mefi or any of its subsidiaries I get this coldfusion error.

This only happens in Firefox. I'm posting this with IE.

are you going to log in? huh huh huh?

I'm using Firefox on Windows XP, and I just tried to go to MeFi and then here to MeTa, and it kept pestering me to login. When did THAT happen? Or, as I'm guessing, is this a bug?

Proxy Cookies

Bug report: MeFi has suddenly started relying on IP addresses to identify users. A coworker just emailed me with a screenshot which showed that he had my session (he has no account but was identified by my username). Loading the blue just a second ago, I myself was identified as a certain milnak whom I do not know (but that person is located very close to me geographically). The unifying thread seems to be that we work for a certain large software company and thus all access MeFi through the same outgoing HTTP proxy.

And yes, I know, I should get back to work instead of reading the blue, etc, etc.

Side note: metatalk still identifies me correctly as blindcarboncopy.

don't know if this is a bug-

On the Green, I'm finding that it reports no questions since I've last logged on. Clearly there are new questions; additionally everything is fine (and correct) on the Blue

No unread threads? Unpossible!

Something is rotten in the state of ask.metafilter.com. For about a day now, each time I've visited AskMe just after visiting MetaTalk, it has told me that I have no unread threads, but dozens (or hundreds) of unread messages. I imagine that somehow the threads are being marked as read when I visit MetaTalk. Eerie!

unescaped quotation marks in title

Ran into the unescaped quotation marks in title problem when posting to the blue just now. My entire title was a quotation, so my post now has no title. A warning of some sort on the post entry page would be great until this (admittedly minor) bug can be fixed.

Comment counts not accurate for logged out readers

Front page comment counts for not logged in users are off for posts with deleted comments. (Not that it's a particularly problematic bug, I just thought Matt might enjoy a non-jrun, non-IIS bug for a change)

I can't post to AskMe.

I can't post to AskMe. On preview, the textbox displays lot of HTML code. Hitting 'Preview' or "Post' at this point leads to "User Name undefined in element form" or some such. Log-out -> log-in doesn't help.

MeFi Wiki problems

Okay, so we're having fun with the Metafilter April Fools Wiki, except, uhm, it doesn't work. :) At least not for me. I click 'Edit Page' and edit the page, but my edits are not saved. Or is it just that the db behind it all is just getting so hammered for all the junk and spam posts?

Where is the rest of my question?

I wanted to post a question to AskMe, which I see ok in preview but when I hit post, only 1 sentence of it comes up and I get a 404 page saying the rest of it can't be found, etc. I'm using Mozilla 1.4 on Windows XP but I tried it in IE6 and the same thing happened. What am I doing wrong?

I don't know if this question is acceptable for this section, but I really am curious - what I am doing wrong ?

comment history bug-a-boos

One's Ask comment history is folded into one's MetaTalk comment history page, which may or may not be a bug, but the background color of the Ask threads are based on how you enter them (green from the Ask front page, grey from users' MetaTalk comment history) which probably is a bug.

Tons of whitespace between description and comments in MeTa

What's the situation with character entity references here on MeFi? [The FAQ was silent on this, so I ask.]

This thread appears when I'm logged in, but vanishes when I log out

In both browsers on my machine (IE6 and Firebird), this thread appears when I'm logged in, but vanishes when I log out. I've never noticed this before; is there a reason why this happens? This makes me wonder if I've missed other stuff in the past.

There are only about five active posters running thousands of sockpuppet accounts

I hate to derail the potental hilarity from within the 'quonsar - who he?' thread, but I have a teeny bug: I was searching for stavros (to make sure he really was in Korea and I wasn't making a huge mistake asking him to comment on something of which he knew nothing), and got two results for 'stavrosthewonderchicken'. One was him. The other was actually vacopinta.

Here's the url of the search.

And just to get back to quonsar-filter, there are five of him - one of which is jonson, one of which is madamjujujive, and none of which really are quonsar.
