Meetup in Johannesburg, South Africa? [more inside]
I wanna pony: When I made this comment a few minutes ago, I wish I could've linked directly to the playlist and description of the June 2009 Metafilter Music Challenge, as opposed to one page that contains all the Previous Challenges, and therefore necessitates scrolling down through what will become an ever-increasing list. Would it be possible to set up links to each month of Challenge results, so they could be linked to separately?
So ... anything planned for the 11th anniversary? [more inside]

Updates to An Honored Mefite In Trouble, Loquacious is out of the hospital and thanks to the generosity of everyone who's donated thus far, he is now in a position to consider new opportunities which weren't available to him before. Things are looking up. The charity auction is going strong, with the first auction closing today. Many thanks all. [more inside]
No, I don't think you can deliberately, maliciously, misquote a fellow Mefite, making a strawman look like a quote, to imply the guy you're quoting is an anti-Semite. Misquote. Real Quote. [more inside]
I think there was an AskMe requesting evidence for the effectiveness (or not) of yoga and meditation, some time in the last few days. Was this post deleted, or am I just not searching on the right terms/tags? I tried yoga, meditation, skepticism; nothing came up. Even the Google didn't help.
I study popular music, and needless to say I go to school with some pretty amazing musicians and song-writers, many of whom have MySpace profiles and websites with their songs on them. [more inside]
FYI: Bing is finding old threads that Google is not. [more inside]
Does anyone have an AskMe they're not using? [more inside]

When crafting a front page post, you may end up using the copy/paste feature of your OS. Some web sites are using Tynt to track copying and insert links and other useless info into your clipboard. John Gruber discusses the annoyance that Tynt causes and how to cut it off at the start.

Short notice meet-up in Birmingham, Alabama... [more inside]
Metafilter's rss feed fails the validator. I've seen feedburner.com feeds often fail on mobile devices in the past, well feedburner.com often does weird stuff.
Portland, OR: I am here, lets drink some beer. [more inside]
Hey, neat, it's mathowie giving a 20min talk about Metafilter at the 2010 Gel conference [more inside]
Is there a current, viable Metafilter-specific Mac OS X Dashboard (or, for that matter, Windows-compatible) widget out there? I've found the old threads about Metadash, but the page is defunct. I guess I could use a generic RSS widget, but I'd love something written from the ground up for this place.
Very small idea regarding favorites. [more inside]
Can we please include MeFi and AskMe favorites for the past year? [more inside]

Houston MeFites, we need to have a meetup to celebrate the arrival of summer. (Because if it gets any hotter - and you know it will - I will stop leaving the house altogether and you wont see me until October.) [more inside]

Searching for signs of sentient life beyond San Francisco. Mefites in the Marin/Sonoma/Napa areas - are you out there? And do you eat things, and/or occasionally drink things? If so: don't you think it's high time we threw caution to the winds and had a meetup? [more inside]
I don't understand what's wrong with my post linked to here: Unethical AC. Members have been assaulting that post with derogatory comments. As an old woman, I feel I require explanation.
i'm looking for a previous post on women's shoes from a few years ago. It was a link to beautifully animated 3d renderings of the shoes being "built". 360 degree views. Can't seem to find.

Columbus, Ohio Meetup?! [more inside]
I have some lingering discomfort with the outcome of the epic Russian Girls Possibly Rescued from Trafficking threads, but the initial Metatalk thread is closed up. [more inside]
Kid-friendly Triangle meetup? [more inside]
As many of you know, loquacious landed himself in the hospital the other day. He's on the mend, but due to his extenuating circumstances many people have been compelled to assist, and some additional fund raising events have been set up. [more inside]
Have you guys considered checking submitted comments/answers for links to previous comments/answers (via a number/hash sign fragment identifier ) in the same thread, and converting such instances to links that would instantly "jump" to the comment rather than reload the entire page? In addition to increased convenience for readers, I suspect such a change might significantly decrease service costs for large threads (like the recent MetaTalk thread approaching 1500 comments).
Budapest meetup, anyone? In late June or July? [more inside]
Small bug on the Post Anon preview page for Ask.Metafilter. When you are previewing your question before you post, under both the "Your question" and the "Extended explanation" boxes, it says both of those boxes will be used for the [more inside] part of the question. On the original Post Anon page, the box descriptions are correct.
Summon Pony of Wisdom: The references to Miko's awesome comment in this post got me thinking. How would one go about retrieving every comment under a certain category with a certain number of favorites or higher? Like if I wanted every "Human Relations" AskMe comment with 200+ favorites?
Chicago meetup, anyone? [more inside]
This morning I asked a question on Ask Metafilter, and while doing a little more post-question searching, I found my own question on a site called Newsified which seems to be a link aggregator. [more inside]
Pony request: including the time the last (latest) comment was posted to a thread in the Recent Activity thread header. [more inside]
Loquacious is in hospital with a collapsed lung and wanted me to pass this info on. He's been texting from hospital - swedish first hill - and will be in for a few days. He will be coming out from hospital to joblessness and, in short order, homelessness, and with my support and encouragement he is asking mefites for help. [more inside]
Denver/Boulder meetup. [more inside]
Hi all I have been out of MeFi for years and years and have come back with a happy ending update to this post I made almost exactly 5 years ago: http://ask.metafilter.com/19372/Divorce-Separation-and-Immigation-from-Russia-to-the-UK [more inside]

The last Toronto meet-up was in January. Time for another one? [more inside]
This post may have been weird, but I don't think it was bad. Explain the badness.
when asking about travel plans that have changed due to a natural disaster maybe try to refrain from using words like "salvage" as people are still putting their lives back together and you're just grumpy that you can't find a good nightlife.
LA Mefites, (un)fortunately I am moving away from the city, fleeing north to Portland. Anyone up for getting some beers before I leave? [more inside]
This question made me wonder: how common is it for friends of the opposite sex to hold hands? [more inside]

We need your help on a new events site (sorta gigfilter + meetups + etc)! [more inside]
What's the policy on sites that rip-off content from other sites...? [more inside]
I recently posted an AskMe which received no responses. I realize (and knew at the time), the question I asked was quite narrow and didn't expect many responses (it had to do with an esoteric business management theory). So no responses doesn't really surprise me. Yet 5 users marked it as a favorite. I'm interested in finding out why people marked it as a favorite. Is it acceptable MeTa-quette to MeFi-mail them and ask if they're willing to share why they favorited it?
Meetup in Washington DC, during Medical Library Association (MLA) conference (May 22-26, 2010)? [more inside]
Any MeFites in or around Blantyre, Malawi? [more inside]

I was shocked and horrified to discover that hermitosis' account is disabled. Did I miss something? Where do you go, my lovely? Where do you go? I wanna know.

Late last year, Jessica Watson began her attempt to circumnavigate the world. We discussed this on the Blue back in March.
Today, she made it.

Next week, I shall be returning to my hometown of St. Louis, MO for schyler523's wedding. I will have one night, Wednesday the 19th, dedicated to non-wedding activities. River City MeFites? LET'S! MEET! UP! [more inside]
The question? I need your favorite badasses of history and science. The replies? 87 and counting. There's some great reading in this Ask thread, covering luminaries from Archimedes to Margaret Sanger.

What was that article about someone, maybe a cartoonist (Gary Larson?), losing his voice? [more inside]
...and, and what about those--those... "MeFite comedians," anyway? Yooouu know the ones I'm talking about: stand-ups, sketch comedians, "kooky performance artists"--I mean, come on, who *are* these people and are there any links to their stuff? Really!
Here be a callout / question: Considering this question and the poster's history of chatfilter-esque questions, it leads me to wonder... can people get banned for extensive dubious use of Ask?
Brooklyn Meetup # 8,000: Chicken. Beer. Arcade. [more inside]
Pony Request: MeMail Auto-Save Function? [more inside]
After the success of the MeFi Twitter group hug, I thought we could do the same for Tumblr. So post 'em up already, so we can follow each other on yet another service.

Mefite librarians! It is looking very likely that I, your friendly neighborhood graphic novel (etc.) editor, will be on a panel at the ALA conference in DC this summer. What say we meet up? [more inside]
Today's XKCD strip links to a nonexistent Wikipedia word "malamanteau." Apparently its only prior use was in a 2007 AskMe answer by ludwig_van. There's a bit of controversy on the Wikipedia talk page over a dismissal of MeFi as an "unused website."
There's a bit too much "too much __________________" going on in MetaTalk. Every other day, MetaTalk hosts a thread wherein a user complains that a subject they find uninteresting is being overdone on Metafilter. Such threads are an expression of individuals' disinterest in a subject, and while there's nothing intrinsically wrong with such disinterest, it's somehow evolved into a continuing reoccurrence within MetaTalk that's just utterly purposeless. [more inside]
How much Ebert is too much Ebert? I'm not suggesting a moratorium, I just wonder if there needs to be a new post about his latest op/ed as frequently as we've been seeing.
How come User 58529's name changed? [more inside]
I need a complicated project to get me out of my rut, so what do you say, New York, who wants to throw a "Mefi Turns 11 Party?" The way I see it, we only need a few simple things... [more inside]
Filthy light thief's WIP FPP for Frank Frazetta's is a considerably greater tribute and memorial to the man than what I wrote. Can I cede thread content/ownership somehow?
Brooklyn Crawfish boil, ahoy! Mefite soma lkzx is hosting a crawfish boil and BBQ to raise awareness of his new venture, The Brooklyn Brainery. If you're interested in the Brainery, great! If not, just hang out and eat megatons of crawfishies. [more inside]

Last-minute São Paulo meetup! I'm in town, around MASP, for the next five days - any MeFites around and up for a meet? [more inside]
It seems like Projects should have tags. We could then see a list of "similar things MeFites work on." Is this something being worked on? If not, how come? Just curious.
Electron Boy: the Prequel. [more inside]
Will be at the Society of Disability Studies Conference in Philly from June 2nd to June 6th [more inside]
I can see Cortex's point in deeming my FPP about Delta airlines losing a dog as thin. But I was hoping that a MeFite local to Mexico City might have some suggestions about findings the dog. Delta claim that it escaped. Isn't it worth leaving the post, to have suggestions about locating it? Perhaps I should have made this clearer in my post?
One of ask.mefi's most favourited replies ever is singled out today for detailed praise by Guardian UK columnist Oliver Burkeman. Bravo tangerine!
F-f-front page is stuttering. (In case it's just me: OS X, Firefox.) [more inside]
Multiple posting invasion in the green. [more inside]
MeFi mod favorite MC Frontalot is playing Dante's in Portland this Monday night. Monday night gigs are usually sparsely attended so I was thinking we could fill the crowd with PDX mefites. Here's how: I'll buy a ticket for any MeFi member standing in front of Dante's at 7:45pm. Let's do this.
Hey Amsterdam mefites! Want to hang out with this strange and exotic creature called an "American?" I'll be around for a few days. [more inside]
I submit that this post was deleted for unsound reasons. There was no editorializing included and the post did not break any guidelines; indeed, the video linked in the post is unique, newsworthy, and "best of the web": it shows a rare insight into these types of events. [more inside]
This is a sort of odd question that was allowed to stand. Previously it was dentists. Corner stores. Dishwashers. Something seems a little off.
Episode 51 of the podcast was recorded on Monday May 3rd and features about an hour of banter between the usual mods recounting the month of April. [more inside]
BlooPen and I are both attending the RSA conference this year, and we're hoping to meet and hang out with some folks while we're there. Anyone else in Minneapolis want to get together for dinner/lunch sometime between Friday, May 28 and Monday, May 31st? [more inside]

About 6mo to a year ago I think, there was an askme asking for quotes or rhymes to put in a bathroom to go along with lighting a match when you are done doing your business. I cannot find this anywhere. Can someone please help me find it? Thanks!

Is this where I complain about dfriedman constantly jumping into AskMefi threads with low-signal ten-word answers, seemingly eager just to be one of the first? [more inside]
New flag proposal: region-restricted content. When such content is posted, many of the comments are complaints regarding the region restriction. Perhaps this enthusiastically and frequently voiced discontent would be better expressed via a flag. [more inside]
Austin, it's time to sacrifice one of our own to the God of Air Conditioning before the summer gets hotter than a stolen tamale. How about a gathering next weekend, on May 15th?
Though the prior meetup hasn't happened yet, is anyone up for another Albuquerque meetup on Friday, May 21st or Saturday the 22nd with some out-of-town MeFites? [more inside]
May we please have place holders for deleted comments. [more inside]
What's the standard for avoiding double-posting? About a week ago I made an FPP on the Gulf oil spill. It was not top news at the time and not many people outside the area knew about it. My post ground to about 90+ comments and stalled. This morning, another FPP came up about the same spill. [more inside]
